Ferry noise at Poly?

If you've stayed at the Poly, did the ferry horn bother you? I am a very light sleeper and I'm hesitant about booking here due to the ferry. We stayed at POFQ in March with a River View room and never once noticed the boat horn, but I know the ferry horn is much louder and more frequent.

Depends where your room is -- we stay in the Hawaii building and you can hear the ferry horn for sure. DH says he hears it, but I don't think its something that wakes him up either. Me, I personally love the sound.

You have both the Ferry horn and the Resort Launch horn to deal with. Personally I love the sounds - it’s part of the charm - but can understand noise concerns.

Your exact experience will depend on your room and longhouse location. We’ve spent most of our time on the water side of Hawaii. You don’t hear much with the balcony door closed, but if you pay close attention you’ll hear them. How late at night they run will depend on park hours, of course.

Our experience is we hear more ‘bothersome’ noise from people banging around above or running in the hallway than anything that comes from the boats. But sound is subjective of course, so YMMV.

I'm a very light sleeper and find that there are a lot of noises at Poly that tend to bother me - horns, electric water pageant, fireworks, luau. And you can never predict who your neighbors will be or if someone will run down the hallway. In terms of less noise, we had the best luck with a 3rd floor, Rarotonga room, all the way down the hall away from the elevator.

We stayed in Tahiti and heard it but it wasn't bad, nothing that would keep me from staying there again.

We stayed in Fiji with a water view. We heard the horn a few times but once we went to sleep it never woke us. I was woken up one night by the Electric Water Pageant though.

We stayed at The Poly many years ago, but the ferry noise is the one of the first things I remember! I was even awakened by the fireworks a couple of early nights. I wouldn’t say it spoiled our stay, but it definitely is noticeable.

I stayed at the Yacht Club years ago and hated the ferry noise. I realise it's not the same boat, but just thought I would mention it in case OP thinks of switching resorts.

Yacht Club is out because of dogs, but thank you for mentioning it. I appreciate all the feedback on people's experience with the ferry horn. :)

there could be service dogs at any resort just be aware plus the bed bug sniffer dogs

I realize that, but thanks.
the sniffer dogs would be my worry if an allergy involved because I am not sure if they leave note if dogs was in room. time I saw them they went in 3 rooms next to each other. they knocked on the doors before entering but since was not my room don't know if a note was left

Allergies are not a concern. I prefer to not vacation with other people's ill-behaved pets.

We were in the Moorea building with a lake view. We were near the end of the building and very close to the Transportation and Ticket Center. We could definitely hear the boats. I am not a light sleeper , but it would bother someone who was. They are definitively noticeable. Maybe it is better if you dont book a lake view view...

I think if you book a non-theme park view room it will be less of an issue. When we stay at CR, I do hear the boat horns, but they don't wake me. Mostly, I'm already up. Sound from our neighbors was more of an issue at Poly for us than the boats during our last stay there.

For that matter, the Water Parade happens sometimes as late as 10pm. For us, it is like our lullaby if we are in the room at that hour. If I was trying to sleep before it, that might wake me up, but agai- more if you are facing the water/theme park view.
I don't know if they all it standard view or garden at Poly, but that's what you'd want. I think you could also ask to be in a quieter room when making a request.

I have heard it a couple times, but I love hearing it. Reminds me that I'm at Disney. You could wear ear plugs?

I stayed in Tuvalu but facing the other buildings, not the water. I could hear them but it wasn't loud.
