Fell off the ride?

I can't imagine anyone being killed, or even hurt, from being hit by a log ... how could a log moving so slowly kill anyone?
The next time you ride Splash Mountain take a good look at those "logs." They are very dense, and very heavy. I have no doubt that a person caught between two of them, where the first log is stationary and the oncoming log moving, could easily be killed.

I fell backwards into the POC bat, and almost off. VERY graceful of myself !

Those Tom Sawyer raft/boats look sketchy at times.

I can't imagine being killed if I was hit by a car at that speed. I could see a bad bruise maybe.

From what I've read though, apparently his chest was crushed. The only way I can see this is if he was struck at the bottom of a hill. At that speed, I could see this happening. I can't imagine it happening during a scene where the logs are just floating along.

A few months ago, I was watching the news and they showed this guy falling off teh parking tram as it was moving. Not really sure what park or what the guy was reaching for.

The tram scares me. I always feel like I am going to fall out.

Those logs are heavy (don't forget to add the weight of all the passengers) and that river isn't that deep. I could see him slipping, falling in, and the weight of the oncoming log pushing him down and maybe pinning him under the log. Don't forget that current is STRONG! it has to be to be able to push a log full of people.

What about rides like IASW, Maelstrom,Living with the Land, POC, or the Mexico ride? Anyone have any stories from those ones?

Those logs that appear slow when you are sitting in them are actually moving pretty fast all the time. They actually added stoppers in the ride at Disneyland because they were going too fast to see all the sites. As mentioned the logs are very heavy and at the speed they are going I can see them crushing someones chest. Haven't you been shaken around quite a bit when hitting a log in front of you? Image that force hitting a human body. If someone was hit going down the hill with that speed would either decapitate the person or take them with the boat much worse than a crushed chest.

For the person that said that they can't imagine being hurt by a car going at the slow speed the logs do....my daughter was hit by a vehicle pulling out of a parking area along a street and it acclerating. The speed at the time of it striking her was estimated to be very slow still at maybe 5 mph. It hit her hard enough that she was thrown five feet and had a broken arm and massive brusising and abrasions. Of course some of that was from the pavement. She is ok now.
Point being that the impact had that much force behind it.
I am sure those logs go about that fast.

I heard this story once I have no idea if it is true but it's funny.... This guy was riding the rocknroller coaster and he fell out and was holding on to the rail for dear life and when they turned the lights on he was only a foot off the ground:lmao: I don't know if it's real but omg is that funny.

Hmmm....sounds like a WDW urban legend....where did you hear about this?

check out themeparkinsider.com. if you click on a particular park there is a safety section where injuries are reported.

Are you serious? Aren't all the boats on an underwater track? Where did you see this?:scared1:

They overloaded a boat with to much "weight" on Malestrom and it caused the boat to sink to the bottom of the track. filling it with water. it didn't totaly submerge but it couldn't move either.

My Two Cents

If Kingdom Keepers is right, The current gets stronger as you progress leading up to the drop.

Wasn't the man killed on Splash a suicide? I know we were in WDW when that occured, and i seem to remember the news reporting it as a suspected suicide. :confused3 What a terrible way to die....

HEY BUZZ!! Looks like you can start a post on why you should be nice to castmembers. Is the company even acknowledging that there IS a problem? ... I was referring(sp?) to the website in his/her signature...that WEAREDISNEY website.
Last time I checked, I was all man.

Now, I'm not trying to threadjack here... but here's my stance on the whole "WeAreDisney.info" thing: That website was set up by the various unions who represent the CMs (for those wondering: yes, I'm a union member. I've heard too many horror stories not to be one) and unlike other union websites, this one is intended for the guests to see and read. Many guests think that Disney keeps the CMs in the lap of luxury. They do not. (True story: a buddy of mine once told someone he met off-property that he worked for Disney. They replied, "You work for Disney? You must be rich!" His response: "Nowadays you almost have to be rich in order to work for Disney.")

The Walt Disney Company is, first and foremost, a company. They're in business to make money. Are they acknowledging the CMs have some problems? Well, Disney has acknowledged some issues we (the CMs) have that need to be addressed -- and have promised to make some changes. But saying "yes, we see where you're coming from" and actually changing are two different things. Still, it's good to have this information out there, and I think it's good for you all to know that we're fighting for better pay, hours, and the like.
