I was told from the person who helped me get a reservation at the Grand Californian last year that now there's a fee for renting at non DVC properties. Can anyone help shed some light on this for me??? Thanks

There is a $95 fee to book the Disney Collection, but DLR is currently excluded.

I was told Saturday by DVC Member Services that reservations made before the end of January will not be charged the fee, but starting February 1st the $95 fee applies to Grand Californian reservations made using points. I cannot speak about reservations for The Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier since I did not specifically ask about those hotels, but I would think the fee would also apply to them.

No, there is no fee for the Grand Californian, according to the DVC web site:

In order to maintain consistent service and to ensure efficient processing, transaction fees at non-Disney Vacation Club Resort locations will be standardized to $95. Starting January 1, 2008, Member Getaways exchanges in The Disney Collection, Concierge Collection, Adventurer Collection and World Passport Collection will charge a non-refundable $95 fee for booking or changing reservations. Reservations at the eight Disney Vacation Club Resorts and the three resort hotels at Disneyland Resort in California will not require a transaction fee.

With the new transaction fee, it could be quite a costly reservation. If you wanted to stay one night lets say at a moderate resort (Port Orleans), not only would you have to use points but $95 in addition. I have to say that Disney just keeps pushing me toward selling our membership.
