Leaving next Saturday the 23rd days just got out of Doctors office, He said cancel your trip. I have a blockage near my kidney and he said that it is really not safe for me to go, need to have surgery he is now going to get me in for surgery on the 21st. Will break up the stone, and put a stent in and said I won't feel great but should be safe to travel and the discomfort will be less then I am in now.

I am SO BUMMED, if it was not for our DD8 I would just cancel. The way mine and my wifes work schedule is would really be able to go again for at least 6-8 months. I can't do that to my daughter, the thought breaks my heart.

Sorry for the down post just really feeling low.........

Okay, first of all, stop worrying about this. I've had it, it's not so bad.

Basically, what the stint does is keep your urine free-flowing. You won't have any kind of blockage problem with that. The only reason you'll know that it's there is (and I can't sugarcoat this) it will hurt when you go to the bathroom.

The pain is of a low-level sort. It isn't sharp, but you know it's there. Passing a kidney stone on your own is much, much more painful.

As far as the procedure goes, you're unconscious during that. Recovery is almost instantaneous. You'll go in in the morning, wake up sometime in the afternoon, and you'll be fine. You'll be a little scared at first, because the urine is filled with blood, but that goes away.

You will function totally normally. The only one who will know anything is you.

pixiedust: Lots and lots of pixie dust. When you see the look on your daughter's face, you won't even remember the pain.

Hope you feel well.

My sister had this over the summer, and she still went on 3 summer vacations. So it can turn out ok.

Can they not do lithotripsy?

This may be lithotripsy. If he has a blockage, it's really big. They'll probably use lasers first (unless they've already tried) and then go for lithotripsy (shock waves).

The problem is that it probably won't break up the entire thing, hence the need for the stint. Also, if it is lithotripsy, you do feel kind of beaten up the next day. I've had both. I was perfectly functional after the lithotripsy, but I was sore for a day or two. From what I understand, it's much better than it used to be, but that may only be my interpretation.

Thanks everybody

That is what I needed to hear, I can't wait to see her eyes light up.
The funny thing is my DW just had her gall bladder out about 2 weeks ago and I was worrying that she would not feel up to the trip. The joke is on me yet again....lol

Well Goofy Dad I am delighted that you went to the Doctor !!!! :thumbsup2 Good Job!!!

I am so glad that they were able to find what was making you ill and are able to address now so you can be at home.

Could you imagine trying to the pass the stone at WDW not a keepsake you would cherish I think! I pray you have a healthy and speedy recovery! Just think you eyes will not be gazing into your daughters from a hospital bed in Florida!!!

Good work on having this looked at before your trip!!! Speedy recovery!!! :goodvibes

Goofydad-I'm keeping y'all in my thoughts.

It will work out, and you all will have a great time. Just pace yourselves if you need to.

Interestingly enough, DW has had her gall bladder out. That was done arthroscopically, which, given your wife's recovery, I assume hers was as well.

That's a nice thing about modern medicine - recovery time.

By the way, DW, DD6 and I'll be at WDW the same time you are. Maybe we'll run into each other. Stranger things have happened. :thumbsup2

pixiedust: for you and just remember to take it slow and easy , I'm certain your DD will understand and will appreciate you even more for making her dreams come true! :sunny:

Hope you and your wife are feeling better soon and I'm glad you both looked after these medical issues before you went. So many people leave these things way too long and it only makes it worse. Just pace yourselves and have a great time. Sending lots of pixie dust your way.
