We will be staying on-site(CB) beginning 10/5, but arrive in the area on Friday10/3.
I've booked rooms at the Rodeway Inn Maingate for those 2 nights and was wondering if the place is decent. We want to conserve $$, but I'm not familiar with this motel.
The rate is $34/night for a deluxe room (kitchenette) and if you've had a bad experience, can you suggest an alternative in the area within the price range?
Thanks!!

I have not stayed there, but would love to hear about your experience if you stay there. We are going the end of Oct, and I need a place for a short night.
Be sure to post when you get back.:Pinkbounc

DON"T STAY there:mad:

We stayed in March and after spending all day at the parks, came back to our room and it had not been cleaned. My husband called the front desk they didn't answer. So he went downstairs and then talked to the person on duty. Her only reponse was "oh did we miss your room. I'll send someone up with towels later." This was at 11:00pm at night. When we called three times later housekeeping finally showed up at 12:15 am and asked if we wanted her to clean the room. We said "no thank you" so she got mad and threw the towels at my husband and walked away.

The next morning when we complained to a manager all we got was a what do you want me to do?

This was also after our first night when I checked in and they said they had no room for us and that my credit card had been rejected. So I got on my cell phone and called the cc company who said no one had run anything in three weeks on my card. Found out later that the person at the front desk was lying.

To finally end all this I called Rodeway's 800 number they gave us $10 off the bill. And said that the manager would call us later. To which I replied I have no need to talk to him he was of no help to us when we were there. The person at the 800 number said that was all they could do.

It is not worth it in my opinion to stay there.

I haven't exactly stayed there per say. I stayed there on that side of the hotel when the whole thing was HOJO (NEXT DOOR). I think they sold half of there building to Rodeway Inn. The area is fine but from what EDSGIRL is saying, I think they have some customer service issues.
Just go, for $34 you can only like it or not.:D

on hotel Kingdom for $30. I think it was the Lake Buena Vista one.

Edsgirl,

Thanks for the report. I guess I wasn't expecting much for 34/night, but I sure would expect a little more than that.
Luckily, we can cancel out up to 48 hrs. in advance and we'd only have to deal with it for 2 days.
Perhaps I'll check in to the Days Inn as the last poster suggested.
Thanks to everyone for their input & if we decide to keep our reservations, I'll definitely post a report!!

Please let me know how it goes. You may also want to check out Best Western Eastgate. We stayed there 2 years ago. Nice, friendly staff. Only thing is it is a BIG hotel and can get a little noisy but we were so tired from the parks that we didn't have any trouble fallling asleep.:D

Good luck!!!

Have you thought about Priceline? We generally bid $35 - 38 for a 3-star hotel in the WDW zone. We have gotten the Hyatt Orlando (several times), the Hotel Royal Plaza, the Sheraton Safari and the Renaissance Worldgate. All of these hotels have been very nice. We usually book our first night this way and then check into our WDW resort early the next day.

If your bid is accepted your credit card will be charged immediately, however we have never had a bad experience with Priceline. We even used them for our 3-week California trip (went from Napa to San Diego and everywhere in between) with great results. You will pay a bit more than you would at the Rodeway but the accommodations will be nice. (For example, if you bid $35 and it is accepted you will pay the $35 per night, $3.85 tax per night and the $5.95 Priceline fee...a total of $83.65. By my calculations your Rodeway stay would cost $75.48 with the tax...not that big a difference for a better hotel, IMO.)

Just something to think about.

I stayed at this hotel/motel last year. I got a bid through Priceline.com for $18.00 per night. The hotel also adds $2.00 per day for a resort fee. For the amount I paid it was not bad (but not good either). Priceline list this as a 1 star property. I'm a single male that does not need much and spend most of my day at the park. The room was just for sleeping. So for a family or those particular about rooms may not like what was just OK for me. It was kept clean by the maids but the rooms are old. The biggest thing I did not like was a 1/2 inch gap under the front door. It appears that this property is either now part of the howard johnson's hotel next door or the hojos is part of Rodeway. They have two different signs and two different check in spots, but the buildings are painted the same color. I agree with the other posters that for the $ you paid you could do better (esp. through priceline) But if your goal is to save $, the price I paid through priceline was not bad. Previous to this stay I had bid $18.00 - $20.00 on priceline and gotten the travelodge 2 blocks to the east and liked it much better.
