Feedback on Food at AKL

Staying at AKL for 2 nights after a 5 night Dream Cruise. One of the few resorts we have never stayed in. Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on the food over there. Concerned that there will be limited choices. Do the restaurants offer a menu that is solely African based? Of course I know there will be the hot dogs, chicken nugget etc offerings... but my children are past that but on the same note may not be interested in eating 'foreign food'.

Just wondering if I should plan on all of our food being consumed at restaurants in the parks before going back to AKL for the night....

Sandwiches, pizza and chicken.

If you are talking about TS Boma is a good choice as the buffet has plenty of dishes to chose from. They have a carving station, side dishes etc and many things will be spiced differently than you may be used to but if your kids are, as you said, willing to try something they are not used to you will do very well there. Sanaa is very good but take a look at the menu. Mainly Indian type dishes. We love Indian food and loved Sanaa.

You don't have to worry. AKL is still a Disney resort, so even though they do have a fair share of slightly exotic foods to fit the theme, they realize they're catering to families and children, so there are 'safe' food choices widely available.

The Mara is the AKL counter service. In the morning it serves very standard breakfast fare; croissant sandwiches, eggs and bacon, waffles, etc. At lunch and dinner, it has a variety of flatbread pizzas, burgers and fries, delicious soups, and some more unusual offerings. There's also always sandwiches and fruit cups in the grab and go refrigerated cases. And there are always bakery items, like croissants, cookies, and cupcakes, as well a a case with ice cream treats.

Boma has a stations with kid-friendly foods like pasta, meatballs, mac & cheese, and chicken fingers, along with the huge variety of salads, soups, meats, and desserts. Breakfast is less exotic than dinner.

Jiko is their signature dining restaurant where they're a little more adventurous with the flavors so you'll probably want to skip that.

Jiko has a wonderful steak on the children's menu. My grandchildren both loved their meal there. Honestly, except for the appetizers at Jiko, the rest of the menu is pretty tame.

Boma is a buffet with a large children's pod. The meat station also has a large variety that probably wouldn't be too unusual for them. So they could do meat from the meat station and sides from the children's pod if they didn't find anything else that interested them.

Our kids did Kid's Club the night all of us adults did Sanaa so I'm not sure about the children's choices there.

Boma is our favorite restaurant on Disney property. Last time we were there our boys were 4 & 5 and while they're not terribly picky, they are still small children. They LOVED it!

Like the pp's said, there's carved meats, yummy homemade breads and cracker type breads (the name has slipped my memory) with different relish/hummus type dips.

The desserts alone are reasone for me to eat there. And there's always salads and fruits.
