I need a dinner suggestion. I was going to make tuna casserole and just noticed I have no mushrooms (I need them for my recipe). Anyone have something cheap, good-for-you, and tasty? Otherwise, we'll be having pasta with tuna and bean sauce (which I love, but DD14 can live without)

My family makes a great spaghetti with tuna that even fish haters love. Sorry I don't know the recipe off the top of my head and by the time I get it you won't have enough time to make it.

Yep, the 16 yr old boy is eating us out of house and home! ;) He is way taller than me and weighs more and STILL growing. I think he just passed his dad in height! :upsidedow

I have just started following this thread, but wanted to say that I am truly scared for the near future. We have 3 boys and we've always said once they are all teenagers we'll both need to work full-time and have 2nd jobs to pay for the grocery bill alone :rotfl:

As it is, they go through apples like crazy. I shop at the commissary and the cheapest I find apples is about $2.99 for a 3 lb bag (I am somewhat picky and only buy gala, fuji, or red delicious because they won't eat others). My middle son (who is 5) could eat a whole bag of baby carrots in one sitting if I let him. I'm glad they eat healthy food, but man...

I am going to take the challenge though! I did some groceries today and I'm going to keep track over the next few days and see what I come up with.

I really have just made a choice today after reading threw the last few pages of this thread that i will not be participating in it any longer because the few weeks i joined this page all i see is disregard for others feelings there are a few who don't but then there are those who continually become petty. I don't feel this is right or respectable. So to the few thank you the others enjoy your misery and discontent.

Thanks anyway. I may just run out and get some mushrooms, but you know I will overpay that way so I want to think of something else.

Disregard the nay-sayers. I generally do. There's an entire thread on another disboard where I am getting completely trashed. I just sit back and popcorn:: .

Their bashing is not a reflection on you personally. Really.

I am so glad you are back. You have great meal ideas. You must be a good cook!

Dawn, I hope you stay too!!! I don't post many menus because I have very picky eaters and certainly don't live up to the "standards" in the vegetable department, I count spaghetti sauce and salsa as veggies at our house!! You do a much better job than I can even come close to! I love reading the yummy recipes from Punkin and the creativity and resourcefulness of mommiepoppins!! All the tips from the other posters keep me motivated as well!!

BTW...does anyone know a reputable place to buy coupons and have them delivered super quick??

Okay, this won't answer your question since it takes mushrooms, but my favorite recipe is pasta tossed with broccoli, tomato sauce and mushrooms. Its so easy, healthy and 3 servings of vegetables! I made this hot chicken salad once. I think it would lend easily to hot tuna salad...here's the link:http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Hot-Chicken-Salad-III/Detail.aspx
I substituted like crazy with it...I just used whatever begs I had, and ranch instead of mayo because we didn't have any, and I hardly used any almonds because I only had whole ones and had to cut them up tiny so DD wouldn't choke.

The only place I know is thegrocerygame.com. You don't buy the coupons, but I know they have boards and stuff where it tells you how to get coupons. I'm new to this whole world...I always just used the Saturday paper.

My salad this pm will have chicken (free range), fresh mozzarella, farmers market veggies, and homemade salad dressing and will cost about $10. And feed 5 of us. And I have boys that are really hollow... Think I'll add a loaf of homemade wheat bread...

I do price garentee at wal mart. If a certin store has an item on sale. I bring the flyer to Walmart:love: . I also shop at Aldi which is close. I will not drive all around town becuse I will end up spending more in gas, than what I was trying to save.

You know I always forget about that at Walmart! Thanks for the reminder. Do they do that with produce do you know? This week the regular grocery store in town has Washington Cherries for $1.99/lb and strawberries were a good price too. We are getting an Aldi in town soon adn I am sooo glad. We try to get all of our cereal there as well as crackers etc. But it is so far away that we end up running out of items before we get back there. Having it just up the street will be awesome. We love their yogurt.

I just got back from SuperTarget where I used all my $1 off coupons and saved a bundle.

well I guess I'll bite....

the girls eat breakfast and lunch and two snacks at school and it's included in their tuition....so I won't add that in.

Breakfast - DH and I really don't eat...he has coffee free at work and I down a few waters before lunch.

Lunch - today I have a WW frozen meal which I got with coupons for $0.65, DH bought a salami, yougurt and had 1/2 a loaf of bread leftover at work. He spent $2.34 (he works at a grocery store) I also took a hard boiled egg in for a snack...$0.11.

Dinner is boneless skinless chicken breasts on the grill, $3.90 for 4 breasts. Zuchinni and yellow squash $1.98 and herb potatoes $2.00. The girls had fruit as a snack when we got home...watermelon, honeydew and cantelope - it's cheap right now so I would say they had $2 worth....water to drink.....

so:
0.65
2.34
0.11
3.90
1.98
2.00
2.00
12.98

if my math is right....we'd be way over with breakfast and lunch!
