i hope that the tummy issues are just my body getting used to moving again. oh man. i almost didn't make it home yesterdayi ran in the door and right past my babysitter and my two little guys and straight to the bathroom. i hope it's not a lasting thing. i started back up with taking metformin a couple weeks ago so it could be just my stomach getting used to the medication too.
the farthest i've run was back in feb when i did the princess half. i was never good with nutrition during the training and will need to spend the next 11ish months trying to figure that out before the marathon. my stomach usually prefers to run when it's empty but my legs and every other part of me seems to do better with a little something in the tank. i was thinking i was going to need to take imodium before running but i don't want to go down that route. plus with nursing i'm not sure i should take that.
what do you think settles your stomach best while you run? sport beans? gu?
Nancy -I still haven't figured it out. I do know that I have a severe reaction to Dasani water or any sport drink mixed with it, which makes Disney races a bit more complicated logistically. I do find that a mix of carbs & protein before a long training session is key - usually peanut butter on a bagel. I definitely need fuel. When I use the Y dreadmill I can almost anticipate when my stomach is going to start growling and my legs will feel heavy based on my caloric intake and burn that morning. It is interesting!
During those long training sessions I use cliff blocks and sport beans. They literally give me renewed energy.
Oh, and after a workout, I need protein immediately. I usually do egg whites or hard boiled egg whites as soon as I get home. Otherwise, I cannot recover for the rest of the day.
Food is the key! Prior to work out I make sure I have high-protein food, plenty of water and a multivitamin. Sometimes at about the hour mark I will eat half a banana or drink a pre/post work out mix (from dot fit) that has vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc. in it.
Then of course, some days it doesn't matter if I could eat pure energy, nothing's going to get me past that 1 hour mark - just too tired!
Thanks for keeping track of us this month.![]()
My pleasure. Wow, I find it interesting that you don't need carbs before a workout. Lucky you!

I think I have everyone updated up to here. Let me know if I missed your minutes or a color change.

As for me, I've worked late every night this week and just could not get in a workout the last few days. So much for my cushion on the minutes. LOL! Tonight won't work either. I have cancelled several de-greying appointments and must get my hair done tonight. I have to be in court several times next week and it looks very bad and unprofessional. My nails are 10 days overdue for a fill and they are so long that they hurt when I type. I won't get to deal with them until Saturday, but I'll go to the gym first - I don't need my fingers for that.
