February Exercise Challenge!

i hope that the tummy issues are just my body getting used to moving again. oh man. i almost didn't make it home yesterday :scared1: i ran in the door and right past my babysitter and my two little guys and straight to the bathroom. i hope it's not a lasting thing. i started back up with taking metformin a couple weeks ago so it could be just my stomach getting used to the medication too.

the farthest i've run was back in feb when i did the princess half. i was never good with nutrition during the training and will need to spend the next 11ish months trying to figure that out before the marathon. my stomach usually prefers to run when it's empty but my legs and every other part of me seems to do better with a little something in the tank. i was thinking i was going to need to take imodium before running but i don't want to go down that route. plus with nursing i'm not sure i should take that.

what do you think settles your stomach best while you run? sport beans? gu?

Nancy -I still haven't figured it out. I do know that I have a severe reaction to Dasani water or any sport drink mixed with it, which makes Disney races a bit more complicated logistically. I do find that a mix of carbs & protein before a long training session is key - usually peanut butter on a bagel. I definitely need fuel. When I use the Y dreadmill I can almost anticipate when my stomach is going to start growling and my legs will feel heavy based on my caloric intake and burn that morning. It is interesting!

During those long training sessions I use cliff blocks and sport beans. They literally give me renewed energy.

Oh, and after a workout, I need protein immediately. I usually do egg whites or hard boiled egg whites as soon as I get home. Otherwise, I cannot recover for the rest of the day.

Food is the key! Prior to work out I make sure I have high-protein food, plenty of water and a multivitamin. Sometimes at about the hour mark I will eat half a banana or drink a pre/post work out mix (from dot fit) that has vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc. in it.

Then of course, some days it doesn't matter if I could eat pure energy, nothing's going to get me past that 1 hour mark - just too tired! :rotfl:

Thanks for keeping track of us this month. :goodvibes

My pleasure. Wow, I find it interesting that you don't need carbs before a workout. Lucky you! ;)

--------------------
As for me, I've worked late every night this week and just could not get in a workout the last few days. So much for my cushion on the minutes. LOL! Tonight won't work either. I have cancelled several de-greying appointments and must get my hair done tonight. I have to be in court several times next week and it looks very bad and unprofessional. My nails are 10 days overdue for a fill and they are so long that they hurt when I type. I won't get to deal with them until Saturday, but I'll go to the gym first - I don't need my fingers for that. :rotfl: I am going to try to get back into my morning gym routine tomorrow.

Hmm. Not sure I'm gonna make it this month! But I will come close!!

Have gotten a couple runs in this week and should get another one tomorrow. Made it to my early morning Y class and have gotten my walks in yesterday today and should be good for tomorrow! Need to get some strength work in at some point. So much to do, so little time!!

Ergh!! I got 16 minutes into my workout this morning and the school called to pick up DS11, he's sick. I haven't had time to get back to it yet, but I'm going to try to finish after I get the rest of the monsters.

Sorry. How are you feeling? How is DS doing?

I'm doing better. I finished my antibiotic but I did have a coughing fit after I got off the treadmill so I think I'll scale back to just walking for another week or so.

DS is better too. He came home and slept for 4 hours, ate some toast went back to bed and by dinner he wanted tacos. LOL I sent him off to school, today. It's dress down day (regular clothes instead of uniforms) and there are very few days for that so they all wanted to go.
Next week is winter break so we plan on doing some roller skating, bowling and walks on the green if the weather is good.

Ack! Went over my computer time so I'm gonna go hit the dreadmill. Hopefully I can squeeze in at least 30 minutes before I had to shower and grab kids. 1/2 day for all of them so it's a tight day.

So glad to hear you and DS are doing better. Definitely do not try to do too much too soon. Next week sounds fun!

P.S. Be sure to post your minutes here when you get a chance so I can update you on the list.

Did 30 minutes on the treadmill last night.
Hmm, did I report on the time I spent doing laps at the mall on Tuesday?
If not, that was another 30 minutes....
355/1200 is where I stand so far. I need to pick up the pace!

great job! mall laps! What a good idea! I haven't thought of doing them in a long time.

Cam, I'll tally for sure tonight. I'm trying to decide if I want to go for a walk up the road. One of your side streets is somewhere around 2 miles long so I want to do that. Maybe I'll see if my mom wants to go with me.

Friday, Feb 17 - 60 minutes walking outside and 40 minute yoga.

Me too, on the protein afterwards. I have such a hard time with egg whites though I know I should find a way to eat them more. I tend to fall back on cheese..and that's too much fat!

Hmmmm....maybe I do need to eat more carbs before a work out. Lately I have just been gutting them out and never feel good or energized after a work out.

I had to laugh about the Clif "Blocks"; I'd never heard of them before and thought maybe you were being sarcastic about the Clif Bars, lol. I have a hard time choking those down.

Well I got sick and have really been slacking so not sure I will make my goal but I will keep at it!
