February 28, 2009 Bushwacker Banditos Magical Cruise

Alan, just to pipe in on why people live where they live...DH and I live and farm on land that belonged to his grandfather and father as well as some we have bought over the years. We would love to live somewhere warmer (and have high speed internet access :) ) but you can't relocate 2000+ acres very easily. Although we think land in Missouri is expensive, it is very reasonable compared to land in other parts of the U.S. And you have to consider the tax implications which would be very costly if we would sell. Besides all of our family lives close by and I would miss them too much to move away!

With that being said....we do hope someday to be able to spend a couple of months each winter in Florida as our DS is now farming with us....

Until then, we count our blessings about living where we do--we are less than 30 minutes from Jefferson City, our state capital; 45 minutes from Columbia, home of the Mizzou Tigers, and the Lake of the Ozarks, a beautiful lake and tourist area; and less than 2 hours from either Kansas City and St. Louis. And we are centrally located in the U.S. and can get to either coast without an extremely long airplane flight.

Welcome. I have to ask, are you a pintrader? My wife and I are avid pintraders.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! :grouphug:

Yes, Hello my name is Leslie and I am a pin addict :lmao:

I've really cut back in the last few years, I've narrowed my collecting to Sorcerer Mickey, DCL, DVC, Evil Queen and Cast pins. :rotfl2:

UHHHHH BURRRRRR!!!!!! It is very cold here in Western Nebraska, as our cold front has moved in!!!!!
It is right at -2below ( and that is our forecast high for the day) with a wind chill of -20below!!!! Not even I have enough insulation to stay warm today :rotfl: :rotfl:

Today marks 75 days till we sail, so I have to ask.....has anyone tried to get Palo reservations ????? I have been trying since after midnight last night, and have NOT had any luck..I even called Disney directly and ask if they had (or will) open up any more reservations for PAlo's, and she said that they won't as they put out all the reservations at one time...
It was my understanding that Disney makes a certain amount available at the 120 day mark and then some more at the 75 day mark and save some for boarding day?????
I was thinking that last year I didn't have any trouble getting Palo's ressies at the 75 day mark.....this gal at Disney told me today that I would just have to keep checking for cancellations:confused3

SO I was just wandering how many of you were hoping to get Palo Brunch ressies, and haven't been able to????? Maybe we will just have to do a group brunch????? It would be FUN!!!!

Donna...I have a feeling our husbands will get along great.....2 dusty ole' farmers sailing the Caribbean LOL
I know that I have asked this and I forget...What do you farm????? We are strictly dryland farmers growing wheat, millet, and milo....

Okay...hope everyone is staying warm and enjoying the weekend ......I want to sent out a welcome to you ,and your family Leslie :welcome: :welcome: Welcome ABOARD!!!!!!

Brenda:)

OMGosh!!!!! I just figured out what I did.....tomorrow (Monday) is our 75 day mark...NOT TODAY!!!!! We fly out on the 27th so when I used Donna's link to the calculator (which is way cool...as long as you put the right date in LOL) I put in the 27th instead of the 28th!!!!
I guess everything I have been doing so far, airfare/car rentals/motel
all has been on the 27th so I guess I have the 27th on the brain!!!!!! So my mistake.. Sorry!!!!!! I guess I will try again tonight LOL!!!!!

Thanks for the welcome everyone! :grouphug:

Well since you collect DCL, if you happen by so e chance have a extra set of EB Panama pins that you are willing to trade I have a set of WB pins to trade. I am of course talking about this years cruise. I now am in full regret mood about the whole weather thing thing. All I can say at this point is sorry. I am droping it. Again sorry.

Brenda--We mostly background Angus cattle and also have a cow/calf operation. We only crop about 200 acres usually either soybeans or corn. I'm sure our husbands will want to talk about the differences/similarities in farming in our states. For example, I have never heard anyone around here grow millet or even what millet is. :confused3

Good luck on those Palo reservations, Brenda!

Alan, no need to apologize! I just wanted to give you one reason why some people might not be able to relocate since you asked.

Woo Hoo! Jumped on the DCL site at midnight eastern last night (10pm here) and made my shore excursion, spa and Palo bookings. Also registered the kids for the clubs.

Unfortunately, I was only able to make a Palo ressie for 2 people - it would give me an error when trying to reserve for 4 or more. But I did get the date and time I wanted... Wednesday night at 8pm. Now I have to figure out how to sneak 6 more people in under my jacket. Guess I'll bug them onboard, because I'd really love to have all 8 of us adults at Palo at the same time.

Parasailing at Castaway Cay, here I come!!!!! :woohoo:

John

The weather is a great topic for everyone to b**ch about - except if you live in Southern CA! :rotfl: It's the ultimate topic that EVERYONE has an opinion about - like it or not.

Here in your nation's capital (oh wait - not the Canadians! - sorry!) - it is forecast to rain every day from today until Friday - and temps range is from Mon-Fri: 62, 42, 51, 46, 58. Talk about a roller coaster. This sucks. Guaranteed we will all be sick on Christmas. Fun.

On another note - my sister came over this weekend, and we spent all Saturday afternoon and evening making Christmas cookies; and then she spent most of Sunday making more. She's quite talented in the baking department. I was exhausted after a couple batches on Saturday, but she kept plugging along. We wound up with 9 kinds of cookies! :scared1: Lucky for me, she took most of them and will make gift platters to give away so I don't have them all in my house! But I do have some...

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

OH - John: you should see if you can reserve the private room for a Palo Brunch. You can usually do that 30 days out; you need to fax them a request and have all of the room numbers of everyone who will join you. That might be the best option for all of you. I can email you the fax we sent when we did this two years ago.

Okay - back to work. Lots to get done today. Ciao for now!! Johnna:santa:

Hey Party People!! :cool1:

Looks like the cold weather and storms finally hit us here in sunny So Cal! My family and I finally got to go snowboarding this weekend so that was fun! It was in the mid 30's up in the area we were at and it started snowing while we were there.
But it STILL wasn't even close to how cold it is for you guys in Canada! :scared:
It's snowing like crazy right now up in the mountains and raining cats and dogs down here.

It was about 42 degrees this morning where I'm at in a city called Rancho Cucamonga (about an hour or so outside of L.A.) and it hasn't stopped raining since about 3 in the morning.
I woke up at 3 to get some water and book Palo and register my daughter into the kids club! YAY! I was planning to do it at midnight but I'm sick  as a dog right now and the Nyquil I took knocked me out cold!
I'm excited I got the reservation though! Can wait to try that chocolate souffle!!
I was sad :sad1: though cause they didn't have anything open for brunch. I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna do brunch! Hopefully I'll be able to get a reservation onboard. I hope I hope I hope!

Well, just wanted to stop in and with a weather update and say HELLO to everyone! Try to stay warm!!

Well it looks like the weather is bad everywere. I just hope it will not be raining on Friday when I go to Disneyland. I will be going rain or shine as I need to get my last hidden mickey and gift with purchase pins. Glad to hear the first timers got just about all the reservations they wanted. Well off to work.

Hey, Johnna, I know what you mean about doing all that baking. I'm the baker in my family now that my mom is gone. This weekend DD and I baked cut out sugar cookies, gingersnaps, chocolate crinkles, peanut butter, and billy goats. We also made chocolate coconut truffles, turtles, and chocolate dipped marshmallows. I still need to do peanut butter cups and fudge. I was pooped as we also made time to do some shopping on Saturday. ;) DH's side of the family is coming for dinner on Sunday so I hope I can send some cookies and candy home with them. I already know January is going to be a "count my calories by keeping a food log" month.

Hey guys, DH just got an e-mail from DU letting him know that codes for FL residents were released for our cruise, so now they are crediting us a tiny bit over $1,400 back!!! :cool1:

OMG! This is bananas! We are so happy
And to top it off, it is just 75 days till we are all in the Magic, I am sooo stoked!

That's great news, ChocoKat!

I like that idea! :drinking1

Glad you have a warm front moving through!! Missouri went from the 60 F on Sunday to teens yesterday and today with a little snow and sleet. Less than 2 inches but several schools in the area have cancelled classes.

We have a new puppy!!!!! Her name is Dory. She is a toy Australian Shepherd and she is 10 weeks old. We have had her for a little more than a week. My sister raises pups and she has been wanting to give me one since our family dog, who had been with us for 14 years, died 2 years ago. She sleeps all night in the kitchen but the housebreaking isn't going as well. :confused3

Donna - she is PRECIOUS!!! So tiny. More power to you to housetrain a puppy. We got a "puppy" in September - he was 11 months at the time, and housebroken - but he's 65 pounds!! He still acts like a puppy though - mostly by chewing shoes and wanting to play all the time! DH takes care of him with a lot of help from DS. They love that dog! It's great to have a dog in the house - we missed having one since May when our 13 yr old lab/retriever mix died.

Happy tuesday everyone! Johnna

Adorable!!! There is nothing cuter than a little puppy!!

Well we did it! WE changed our reservation. We changed our return from Sat the 7th to Monday the 9th... and are staying at the Port Orleans Riverside for those 2 days.

We cashed in some points from our Visa so it was kinda like a 'freebie' :dance3: and we just thought we would hang by the pool that Sat afternoon and check out Downtown Disney that evening. Then we are doing the Magic :wizard: Kingdom on Sunday.
