This is too funny!!! I click on the links Jeff sent and start reading the reviews of Costa Maya and I come back to several posts.. he he I LOVE IT! Costa Maya had such diffferent viewpoints it's hard to tell what was actually good or not so good. No-one seemed to care for the Americanized port, as it was just commercial. But hey.. after a few years it'll be all different. There seems to be one beach that is really nice that you can spend the day and is a 5 min. cab drive to. ONe lday said her man at the place was waiting for their arrival and treated them like royalty, but that there wasn't much food in the dishes so you might want to bring some sandwiches from the ship to fill the gaps if you are a big eater. That sounded like the place for me. BUT then again I'd love for my son to see the Ruins. Just not sure how he'd take the ride. Some say it's an hour away some say 2 hrs. and others say it's 2 1/2 hrs. away from port. And hot and sticky. If it was just me maybe but I want him to have some fun too and not spend half the day in a vehicle.
Of course if you dont care about swimming in the ocean, stay at port and enjoy the pool there and swim up pool bar and shops. It's just a tad pricey. But they said at this place to be ready to bargain bigtime!! One lady got a toy drum down from $20 to $1.
There isn't a whole lot to do at this port, but it can still be fun
