When we cruised for Mardi Gras week in 2004, nothing special was done for that day. :(

Maybe "we" could all change that!

That sounds like a great idea!! :thumbsup2 I am sure that our "little" group could come up with something!! party:

I was thinking of putting some bags together for my girls. Not sure yet. Have to go check out OTC for their selections and see what I can come up with. :)

We are also from the South and missing Mardi Gras this year. I have plenty of beads I can bring if everyone decides to do something with the Mardi Gras theme. Just wont tell DH what the extra weight on the suitcase is until after we get there!!

Is there a special bead, or will any round bead necklace work ??
I'll look for some to bring...

Will they still have it this year with all the destruction that happened ??

Moira, I'm so looking forward to doing some Mardi Gras celebrating while onboard! Stupid question though, what is OTC?

I usually organize a Mardi Gras party at work, cajun food, beads and king cake. I, also, will try to bring some beads with us. I have some Mardi gras paper decorations for the door and cabin. Any other suggestions? Lets get this Party Started!! We do have Palo ressies at 6:30 on Tuesday but we'll break free afterwards (and probably before, too). I have a funky/nerdy purple feathery hat just for the occasion

Fieste (Jennifer) my DD is 6 1/2 and she would be glad to hang with your DD. We couldn't get her out of the clubs--One of the things I love about Disney-she had a great time with us AND without us.

I'm home today with DD-she is sick- :( Might make her feel better to email another girly girl. Feel free to contact us.

Eddy (known in the real world at Susanne)

Yes, that's it! They have the greatest party supplies. I have been very happy with all I have gotten. TONS of Mardi Gras stuff too. :thumbsup2

I like the idea of putting Mardi Gras decorations on the door, too. I have been working on my door signs and will definitely make sure to add some Mardi Gras too!

Moira

This is so cool.. he he I just figured out the signature and pictures/avatars. Not sure on how to post pics in the message itself.. but that'll come. :)

The beads are plastic, different colors, lenghts, bead shapes, etc. They are thrown off the Mardi Gras floats in handfuls.....I would send you a link to see some but I don't have enough posts to post URLs. Just type in a search on Mardi Gras throw beads and you can take a look.

New Orleans is having a limited Mardi Gras this year. Nothing like normal, but it is a start.

We plan on arriving at the very earliest they will start checking us in, is that 11? This is a very last minute trip for us so we weren't able to get Palo reservations online...gotta try to snag some once onboard.

Same here and I really wanted to get reservations on my birthday. :( But we missed it. AAA was great handling most things, but they failed to tell us we could go online to do all of that stuff, and when we did find out, it was all booked.

Congrats to those of you doing the doc dance today! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Twolittle monkeys - we plan on getting to the port when it opens, the girls will hang out and watch movies and such. When the date draws near we can pick a time and spot to meet. On our first cruise we had absolutely no problem getting palo reservations once we were on board. We'll be doing the same this time, as I was lazy and skipped right over our date to prebook!

Edinafabs - My daughters would love to hear from someone. P.M. me with or for personals and we'll get them started. Do you have any other children cruising with you?

Mardi Gras - Here's a test, we are not only missing Mardi Gras here, but also Panczki Day! Those of you who knows what this means understand why it is sad, others of you probably just think I'm crazy. Any guesses? :hourglass

I'm going to look in the attic to see what kind of beads are stored up there. If I don't have any "good" ones, I'll probably go to Accent Annex to buy some.

http://www.accentannex.com/

Mardi Gras is not being affected by the storm where we live. We're about 50 miles south/southwest from New Orleans.

We'll have parades next weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the the following weekend on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. We'll probably skip the parades altogether.

I was just wondering if the massages on board need to be booked ahead or can we wait till we get on board to book one?

Mmmmm, panczkis (insert homer simpson drool sound here). It'g probably a good thing that we're missing Panczki Day here. I can do without those 600+ cal bombs. But they sure are good!

We could use Mickey waffles and pretend, right? :confused3

I believe DCL keeps some of the slots open to be booked once on board. If you make the spa an earlier vs. later stop on your first afternoon, you shoud be OK. Same holds true for Flounders and Palo ressies.

All this talk about Mardi Gras is making me excited for Carnival in Germany. I'll miss most of the festivities since I'll only be in Cologne (or Köln if you are so inclined) for next week. The major events start on Friday the 24th.

We're game for some Mardi Gras fun. DW said she'd look for some beads that we have somewhere around the house.

Should be a hoot . . . .

Paczki Day
Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, evolved from the practice of shriving—purification through confession—just before Lent. Other names also apply. Mardi Gras is the culmination of several weeks of revelry. At Fasnacht, Pennsylvania Dutch children get up early to avoid being the last one out of bed. Adults and children eat fasnacht kuchen, traditionally a rectangular doughnut with a slit in the middle, raised without yeast. Pancakes are another traditional food on "Fat Tuesday," baked to use up the cooking fats that are forbidden during Lent. To Americans of Polish descent, Paczki Day means eating paczki , special jelly-filled buns.

While the practice of Paczki Day is traditionally observed the day before Ash Wednesday in the United States, in Poland, paczki sales are the highest on Tlusty Czwartek, or "Fat Thursday." This day marks the start of the final week of the pre-Lenten celebrations.
