February 23, 2008 Magic Western

I notice there are several of us on this cruise in the MA/NH area. I wonder if we're close enough to get together for lunch or something before we leave?

I'm 55 minutes from Manchester, 45 minutes from Nashua, 60 minutes from Burlington, MA.

I might be up for that if we could coordinate the timing. And of course weather permitting! I am 45 minutes from Manchester; about an hour from Salem or Nashua...
Michelle :)

Wow, what a small world. We are in Plymouth MA. We will be celebrating on Sunday and cheering on the Patriots. My favorite part of the game is the FOOD!! We usually stay home, just because it is too late for the kids if we go out.

This is going to sound really bad, but I brought both of my kids to the doctor yesterday and they both have double ear infections. I am actually kinda happy about it. Everytime we travel my DD gets sick, and it is always in the middle of the night and she cries the whole time and then we spend the next day finding a Hospital, Free Clinic, or going to the Infirmary on the Ship. I can't believe that she actually is getting it over with before we cruise. I've gotten smarter though, I always get Travel Insurance when we are travelling with her. We are leaving the Wed. before the cruise and driving down.

Is anyone else getting stressed about packing? I have had my list made out forever, but now I actually have to start buying some of the stuff and looking for some things around the house. The worst part is trying on the clothes to see if they still fit.

I have been secretly hoping my kids will get sick! I know it sounds just awful, but they've been healthy for so long...I just know it can't last!

I am in packing denial. My clothes are basically set, except I need to buy some new sandals. I've been trying to get Julia (7) to try on some of her stuff from last year, but she's not been super cooperative! Luckily Megan (3) has plenty of handmedowns from her big sis, so she's all set! Craig will have to fend for himself, probably the night before we leave if I had to guess!

We had a snow day here so I made Chloe (6) try on a bunch of her clothes from last summer. I pulled everything out and put it all on her bed and said, "Let's have a fashion show!" And she put her outfits together while the "audience" (me) waited in the next room, clapping and cheering. Hey...you gotta do what you gotta do.... We picked out a few tops and shorts/skirts that still fit her, I threw them in the wash today and she's almost ready! If only my DH would be so cooperative.... Somehow I doubt he'd be as willing to put on a fashion show.

As for packing, after we took down our Christmas tree and decorations in early Jan, I hauled out the suitcases and opened them up in the guest room. Slowly, as I think of things, I have been throwing them on the bed in there. The only danger is that we'll end up taking way too much!:confused3

In any case, the excitement is mounting in our house. We'll be spending almost a week in Orlando before the cruise, so we are starting to really count down! Can't wait to meet everyone!

Corinne :hippie:

p.s. Michelle, please tell Julia that Chloe sent off a letter to her around Wednesday this past week

How many cabins do we have signed up for the fish extender goodies????
Pretty cold here. Can't wait to go.

According to the list I'm tracking in post 213, only 5 cabins. I was hoping for more. I thought it would be more fun that way.

I really hate to buy a whole new wardrobe at this size, though, since I'm trying to lose the rest of the baby weight.

Amen, Sister! I am going thru the exact same thing! Except, um, that my kid is a bit older than a toddler. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy some stuff whether I like it or not.

I would also be up for it, again, depending on weather. I'm good with Salem, Nashua or Burlington

I would be interested but I'm not sure I get the whole thing... is there a thread that someone could direct me too that explains it in detail? are the gifts always home made and related to the specific cruise, or do some people do other things?

Here's a really long thread with pictures and gift ideas. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607&highlight=fish+extenders

Extenders range from absolute works of art, to very simple like a paper gift bag decorated with stickers and hung on the fish. This thread also has ideas for gifts. They don't need to be homemade. I've bought some little goodies for pirate night and hope to come up with a couple other surprises too. ;)
Play with us! :yay:

OK, I think I get it now! Sign me up! This looks like a fun idea. Thanks for the info, Michelle.

Yet another question from me: I noticed some of the gifts and magnets that were in that thread had a "name" of a cruise, like "Ship of Thieves" for the May repo cruise, the "Double Dip Delight", that sort of thing. Does DCL come up with those names or do the amazingly creative members of the DISboards come up with them, and if so, do we have a name for our cruise?

According to DCL, the following movies will be showing on the Magic during our cruise.

Terabithia
Dan in Real Life
Enchanted
Meet the Robinsons
National Treasure II
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
Ratatoullie
Step Up 2: The Streets
The Game Plan
Underdog
Wild Hogs

Just FYI.

I'll add you to the list for the fish extenders. Do you know your stateroom number yet?

The names are made up by the DIS members. We don't have a name for ours yet that I know of. I can't think of anything creative, since there isn't anything unusual about our itinerary.

We should think of a name for our cruise, but I am not very creative either. Does anyone have any ideas?
Not sure if I gave the right room number. Ours is 7065.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on the cruise. Our we going to have a disboard meet. I would love to meet everyone. What is a good time and place? We are taking transfers from the Caribbean Beach, so we won't get on the ship until at least 1:30 pm.
Let me know......

Maybe 3 or 3:30 by one of the pools? We don't expect to be arriving at the ship until after 1pm either. Anybody remember/know what time the lifeboat drill is? I think it's 4pm but I can't remember for sure.

Ladies - that was quite the list of posts for the past few days - a few pages worth! Phew!

In terms of naming our cruise - we could come up with something to do with the leap year, as we will be at Castaway Cay on Friday, February 29 - does that stir up the creative juices for anyone??? Leap Year at the Lagoon or something like that? Unfortunately, Hockeychic started this thread a long time ago and then changed her itinerary, so we can't change the title of our thread, but we can add something to our signatures!

We are flying out of Buffalo on Thursday night the 21st, and Buffalo is notorious for getting heaps of snow even when everyone else only gets a dusting, so I hope there are no storms. Apparently Phil believes there will be 6 more weeks of winter, but up here in Canada Wiarton Willie did not see his shadow, so I am rooting for Willie being correct! Today was definitely a fun day in the snow, as we finally got the driveway cleared and the city's snow plows were still making their way to our side street!

I am in for the fish extender game, but I have not started my extender, nor have I started our door sign - but I did buy our magnetic paper last week at Staples, and I have subscribed to the Cruise Magnet and Disney font DIS threads so that I can get inspiration.

re packing - I am awaiting a shipment from LLBean as we speak, as none of Riley's bathing suits or t-shirts from last summer fit her any more. I would have needed shorts too, but she (thankfully) is pleased to be moving into Madeleine's hand-me-downs from a few summers ago. I have a space set aside in my bedroom for things we need to pack, but have not taken down the suitcases yet. Jeff too will consider packing on Wednesday night at about 10 pm, and then will comment that he doesn't understand why we don't all just pack the night before. !!!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Thanks for the movie listings - Madeleine loves dancing, and I did not know there was a Step Up 2 about to premiere - there's the mother-daughter bonding opportunity to match my plans to see Enchanted with Riley.

Talk to you all soon!

Love the leap year idea...I hadn't realized that!

I would definitely like to do a meet sometime. I will let you all sort out the details and just show up. One less cook in the kitchen!

Elizabeth, maybe we can take the girls together to see Enchanted. Julia and I were hoping that it would be playing on board! Good luck flying out of Buffalo. I am originally from Central NY, went to school in Western NY, so I am all too familiar with the lake effect snow. The great thing is they know how to handle it like no one else and can hopefully get you on your way quickly!

Trish, thanks for the movie info!

Julia and I were out today picking up some stuff for the cruise...swimsuit, sandals, etc. so we getting in the groove! :woohoo:
Michelle

I thought we could not call to find out about the movies untill 2 weeks before the cruise? I am so glad that you posted them. I have been dying to take my daughter to the Enchanted movie, but have not found the time. I think that it will be so special to take her on the boat.

I wish some of the other girls where going to be in the Lab with my daughter. They are so close in age, but 8 year olds go in the Lab, and I think most of your daughters will be in the club.

Now for the Silly Movie Question. Anyone having trouble with PG13 movies? A couple of weeks ago I taped the movies Bring It On, on the Family Channel. I thought it would be a fun movie to watch with my 8 year old. I let her watch the first 5 minutes, and then had to tell her that she could not watch it. I then realized that it was PG13. How many movies on the list for our cruise do you think would be appropriate for a 8 year old? I would let her watch PG13 if wasen't too bad. In the Bring It On movie, the first 5 minutes was Cheerleaders in way too short skirts and half sweaters cheering on how hot they were and more beautiful they were to everyone else. Not exactly the image I want my daughter to have. I haven't watched the movie yet, I'm thinking that it probably would have been fine, but I should check it out first.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

What do you think of the signature????? Does this work? I can most definitely change it if we come up with something different as a group! I am also working on my door sign, so I was downloading the Disney Font and .... got to playing. Now, I need to get off the computer....;)
