February 2014

:wave2:February Rocks! Feb. 8th - 15th

This will be our third year going the week leading up to President's Day Weekend. On the first day of our first year at AKV, we woke up to 32 degrees! It was also a bit cloudy ... being from the great northwest this had little impact on us and it felt like we had the MK all to ourselves. pirate:
The temp went up to the 70s and 80s the rest of the week.

Last year was absolutely beautiful the whole week with temps in the low 80s.
The crowds are very manageable if you don't get behind a group of 137 cheerleaders :cheer2: in line for Expedition Everest! Yes, this is cheerleader week ... but you can spot them a mile away with their matching t-shirts and veer in a different direction if necessary!

Still trying to decide between OKW and BCV ... any suggestions?

I am trying to nail down my dates. Do you have any idea where the
cheerleaders stay? :cheer2:

I don't mind being around them in the park
(I actually WAS one about 100 years ago...lol)
but sharing the food court with them might be a little much :confused3

I am still planning on AOA, unless I find out they (or another big group) are staying there.

I don't know about park hours. July 10th is date you can start to book packages for 2014

Thanks. We have a room only reservation booked just after President's Week. When I inquired about a AAA member discount I was told that I would need to check back once 2014 room rates were established and see what the discount would be for my resort and room category. So I'm wondering if July 10th applies to room only rates too. At least I have that date marked on my calendar now.

We are planning for feb. 8th to the 15th. It is out first trip and it will be the week of my Daughters 5th birthday and my husbands birthday. We are planning on staying at AoA. Hoping for some good deals, and can't wait for the 2014 rates! Anyone know where I can find a list of what all these abbreviations mean?

Welcome to our group! I added you to yhe list

I booked our flights on Friday! We will be there February 3-11. Spending the first portion at POR and the second with friends who live in Orlando.

It will be myself, DH, ODD(will be 6) and YDD(will be 2.5). My birthday is smack in the middle and I want to spend the day at MK and stay for the fireworks!

ADR's? Last time we did 8am at CRT on our first morning... it was a magical feeling to walk into the park well before it was open and have breakfast with all the princesses! Part of me thinks $$$.... but it was really a GREAT way to kick off the trip! (And with 2 little girls an easy way to see lots of Princesses!)

Welcome. Crystal Palace might be a good option for your family for breakfast. You can get in the park early. But you might want 1900 Park Faire or Akers for the princesses

My daughters marching band is planning a trip February 17-21st. We are not sure if they will have enough kids. We usually go in may so a little worried about the crowds.

Cool! Another marching band trip. I added you to the list on the first page. Do you know where you will be staying? My son's HS marching band will be there the week before you Feb 12 -17.
Have you received any details about the trip yet concerning what park and parade. I haven't and it is driving me nuts!!

Headed to Orlando tomorrow...but doing Sea World/Discovery Cove/Aquatica instead.

How was your trip? Hope the weather was good for you! My daughters are interested in Aquatica if Blizzard Beach is not open during our stay.

So, I have made some progress and we are already getting excited

1. Reservations for a pool view Royal Room at POR made with deposit
2. I have our disney admission tickets
3. Planning on ADRs for CRT, HDDMR and Ohana's (not sure about this one)
4. Need to buy Photo pass
5. Considering trip insurance (d/t DD13 medical condition)
6. Watching airfare, signed up for SW rewards program just in case

If anyone should see anything I am royally messing up...feel free to let this 1st timer know!

Anyone else making any progress?

Our Orlando trip was lots of fun! In not a big water park fan but Aquatica was really nice. I liked it better than Blizzard Beach. Roa's Rapids was so much fun. We actually snuck on over to Disney property twice. An evening at DTD with a boat up to stroll around POFQ, and on our departing day parked at Epcot, hopped on the monorail, and visited all of the monorail resorts, for lunch, snacks, strolling, and shopping. It was a really fun and relaxing way to do Disney without really doing Disney. We are currently on the even-more relaxing portion of our summer vacation in Fort Myers, heading to Sanibel Island tomorrow for some shelling.

Saw on the other Feb board that JetBlue has some great fares out for February, $170ish from Boston to Orlando. Love JetBlue!

Hi everyone! We are currently planning a trip from 2/2 to 2/8 (tentatively, we haven't booked a resort yet, so anything can change). We are hoping to stay at BLT.

Anyway, I wanted to give another perspective to the weather you can expect. This will be our fourth trip and we've always gone in the winter. We have had 1 or 2 days that were ok to swim (80ish) between all of our visits. It has been in the 60s most often (pants and long sleeves, but super comfortable) and we have had days were it was FREEZING. Like, winter coats, stocking hats, gloves and blankets and we were still freezing cold. Literally, this time of year can give you anything.

All that being said, we love to go at this time of year. I don't know if I'll ever go at a different time. The cooler weather makes the parks so much easier and that's what we are there for!

loveallprincesses - We also combine WDW with Sanibel Island on some of our trips. One of my sisters and her DH used to own a condo on Sanibel and still go for a few weeks every February and invite us to join them them for a week. I've never been in July, only May & Feb. to Sanibel and May, Dec. & Feb. to WDW. Have a great remainder of your vacation!

Welcome korn1977, I have added you to the list. When you pick where you are staying let me know and I will modify the info!

esmee1 you sound like you have things we'll in control for your first trip!
We had dinner at Ohana's and loved it! The food wea wonderful and my DD and I enjoyed learning how to to the hula.

Thanks for sharing your quick trip with us. It sounds like you did quite a bit but at a relaxing pace.

So I checked out some of the resort prices and as much as I would have loved to stay at the Contemporary it's just not going to happen with my single income. :(
I've decided to compromise and try out POFQ. I've visited the grounds once and thought they were very beautiful and I like that it is a small resort. I'm hoping they will have AAA discount which will be even better. :thumbsup2

Still trying to decide on restaurants....
I won't be staying at the parks once it gets dark so I might make my dinner choices at the resorts. Except for BOG as I'd rather do dinner there than lunch.

Also I'd really like to do an 'Ohana breakfast because Stitch is my favorite. The last three trips I had reservations for the breakfast and each time we had to cancel. I'd like to try again but not sure how it would be dining alone at a character meal? :confused3

Officially booked for our 2014 WDW 2nd honeymoon vacation!

Arriving Feb. 23rd - March 6th at POR Royal Room.
Totally excited to explore this beautiful and surrounding resorts !

Not sure which thread I'd be welcome in....we are booked for Feb 22-Mar 8 staying offsite @ Windsor Hills.
Sooo excited.

I am going to have to check out Aquatica. Glad you had fun!

I am hoping for cooler weather...as the 80s would be too much for my northern kids...they think high 60s is hot :rolleyes2

I had to look up Sanibel Island online since I am not familiar with Florida...so pretty there!

esmee1 you sound like you have things we'll in control for your first trip!

Thank you so much for your feedback! Making plans for a first trip, I expect to make mistakes but I am just hoping to avoid any big ones!

...I'm hoping they will have AAA discount which will be even better. :thumbsup2

In one of my quotes, I received what looks to be a 10% AAA discount for POR...I imagine you should be able to get a discount as well

Arriving Feb. 23rd - March 6th at POR Royal Room.

Congratulations! We will be there about the same time and in a POR Royal Room.
