February 2014 Code watch

i have a question. everyone keeps saying that free dining is better than s/p/d, but is that only the case if you are getting the standard dining plan? what about deluxe dining? because i have priced out free dining offers and s/p/d and it seems to me (unless i am a total idiot or doing something way wrong) that the s/p/d is cheaper if you are going to get deluxe dining. we upgraded to deluxe this past february and it was about $2400 total but when i play around with the fall free dining offer and upgrade to deluxe it is over $3500 total!! i know prices have gone up, but the price increases cannot account for such a huge difference! what is the deal?

We stayed at POFQ in February for 10 days, with park hopper and deluxe dining with s/p/d and paid $4660 or $466/ day (one DD over 10, one under 10). The previous year we stayed at POFQ for 8 days with park hopper and deluxe dining with free dining and paid $3660 or $457.50 (both DDs under 10). The dining plan is significantly cheaper for kids under 10, so I think you're right that the s/p/d is the better deal in this case. Fingers crossed for s/p/d!!!

Upgrading with play/stay/dine and/or Free dining you pay that actual price difference between the Adult dining plan prices. That price will be the same under both promo's..

DDP $55.49
Deluxe $ 99.57
Upgrade price $44.08 Approx.

Now the difference with the P/S/D is you have to pay the Initial Childs price for the meal plan in the first place. $17.16

P/S/D ddp adult plan @ Childs price $17.16
plus the $44.08 to upgrade from DDP to Deluxe.
means the Deluxe Meal plan under the P/S/D promo will cost you approx $61.24 per p/per d

Free dining promo would cost you just the upgrade cost of $44.08. Because the initial dining plan is "free"

The moral of the story is....P/S/D will cost you $17.16 more per adult per day for the deluxe dining plan. :thumbsup2

Remember room prices also vary throughout the year..you can't compare fall to February.. 2 different price points.

yes i knew this was the case for this year (paying the difference between the two plans), but for 2014 word on the street is that you will get kids dining prices! which means deluxe for like $30 pp or so! anywho, i guess it doesn't matter much because i am only able to go in february so i will take anything i can get! thanks :)

It's the same thing for 2014 as was for 2013.

A friend received the pin for the 2014 P/S/D promo and booked for late January. She paid the full Adult price difference between the plans. They are staying at a value resort and upgraded from QS to the Deluxe.

Does your calculation take into account the discount on park tickets? I thought that p/s/d gave you kids prices on park tix as well. Either way, I have my fingers crossed for some kind of savings. We need a break from our LONG winter!;)

1 was comparing the dining plans as it was stated that the deluxe dining plan was cheaper on P/S/D.

There is a very minimal amount of savings between the 2 price points for tickets.
A 7 day Adult Park hopper is 391
A 7 day Childs Park hopper is $371
$20 saving...better then nothing :)

I agree, the winter is way to long without a vacation to the sunny south!

Watching this board closely! Went in Feb 2012 and had free dining. Was a blast! Hoping for the same thing this time (Feb 2014). Any tips/information is greatly appreciated!!

We're going Feb. 8-12 staying at AoA family suite hoping for some kind of discount! I guess it's just wait and see!

Can someone help me figure out the cost for 2 adults and 2 kids both age 13 with the P/S/D deal. We would like to stay at POFQ for 10 or 12 days in February but we would consider staying at POP. We always get the regular dining plan. Thank you.:)

Its very easy to figure out.
Now that I just realized there was a price increase on the dining plan as of June 17th I gotta redo my math ;).

I APOLOGIZE to anyone that I gave the old DDP figures to over the past 2 weeks. I didn't consider the recent price increase into my figures.

The DDP will cost you approx $18.88 a night per person at POFQ

The DDP will cost you approx $37.77 per person per night at Pop (upgrade $58.66 adult DDP-$39.64 Adult QS plan=$19.02 + DDp initial cost $)

Go on the Disney website and choose room only. Plug in your dates...and that will give you your room price.

On the Disney website go to tickets only... since you will pay children's price for the tickets just choose the type of tickets at the Childrens rates..

Add those three together and that will give you an approx. total :thumbsup2

Thank you for that! I have one question. Why is the dining plan cost more if you stay at POP?

I am joining in! I want to go sometime between feb-april 2014 and I am also waiting for any offers to become available!

Thank you for that! I have one question. Why is the dining plan cost more if you stay at POP?
Pop is a value resort which gets promos involving QS dining plan versus regular DDP that Moderate resorts get...the Pop calculations involve the cost of upgrading from Quick Service to regular DDP... I think that is your question. I'm new here and just joining in! Good luck to you all!!!!

Thank you for that! I have one question. Why is the dining plan cost more if you stay at POP?

With P/S/D...POP qualifies for the QS plan at the kids price.
If you want the DDP @ POP you need to pay the upgrade price.

If you stay at a moderate resort that qualifies for the DDP at the kids price.

Why is it an upgrade at Pop if it's not free dining but discounted to children's rate?

It works the same as the Free dining stipulations..

QS plan is tied to a Value Resort.

DDP is tied to a Moderate Resort.

If you want the DDP you either pay to upgrade at a Value or you move up to a moderate resort.

Here is the promo for 2013..2014 will be a repeat of this offer just a minor change in dates.

Ok...thank you for the clarification! I'm hoping for the room discount... that would be a huge savings for us!
