I'm considering a trip in very early February, from Melbourne to New York (no more than 5 days) then to Florida for 10 days (2-3 days at Universal, then a week at Disney and anything else we want to do).

What would be the best way to do flights/best companies? I've only ever gone from Melbourne to LA so I'm not sure of the best way to get to the places I want to travel to!

Any insights would be much appreciated!

how exciting, fingers crossed for free dining during your stay.
We are doing NY than Orlando next April, booked through flight centre, it is a Virgin fare that flies into LA, than Delta for the LA to NY & Orlando to LA legs. I am booking a separate internal fare for NY to Orlando, I am looking at $130 with luggage. I hope that helps.

BTW, I booked our stay at Universal today, if you stay 4 nights there is a 20% disc out at the moment.

Oh exciting!!! I will also be in NYC at the same time

I would look at V I know that they are flying out of Melbourne to LA and they do have a partner airline.

I booked my flights between Orlando and NYC with Jet Blue it includes one free checked bag

Toy Story where did you book? I am considering a few nights there later in my trip

Okay I've edited this post since I originally posted...

I've been playing around with on-site accommodation for the dates 2/2/2012 until the 10/2/1012 (so that I get in with free dining that finishes on the 2nd) It's spat out $3600 for a standard view room at the Port Orleans French Resort with a 6 day park hopper + water parks option and Magic Your Way Plus Dining option. The only question is, when I downgrade the dining option to the entry 'Magic Your Way' option (ie no food) my price drops down $1000 to $2600 (this is for 2 adults). So it isn't recognising it as being 'free' - do you have to put a code in this later to get the price down or what? So confused, maybe I'll post this in the dining section too, but I thought an Aussie or NZ dis'er could help!

Hi Anne, I booked at the Portifino Bay, I booked through Expedia and paid straight away - I know I will take the risk of a better deal coming out, but just decided I wanted to pay up-front and cross it off my list.

Go to http://www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com/ and speak to a Travel Planner. I was about to book myself when I came across a blog for Aussie travelers called Disney Traveller who put me onto them. They booked everything for me, gave me a heads up on free dining and just recently a discount on my room only portion of my stay. You only have to make a deposit and they keep an eye out for discounts. They don't charge for the service.:cool1:

As to flights we did a multi-city search on the QANTAS site and they gave various options. We chose to pay a bit more for less stopovers. But there can be issues with QANTAS (see the thread on this board). I did look at other airlines at the time but went with QANTAS.

Thanks guys for all the advice. Not sure if the trip will go ahead or if I should just wait until 2013 or 2014 and make it a bigger trip. Time will tell :)
