FEBRUARY 2008 WDW travelers post HERE!!!

I had one more question for anyone that may be a January / early February Value Season veteran.

I know Disney offered a discount package last year during this value period that included a free upgrade from base tickets to hopper tickets with the water parks and more as well.

I was wondering if the package required you to pay rack rate on the room to get the discounted tickets....or, if it had a discount on the room included with the package as well.

We are waiting to purchase tickets in case this discount is offered again....however, I don't want to pay rack rate at $82 per night to get the free upgrade on the tickets. I would rather pay AAA rate at $66 per night and save the $16 per night x 7 nights....$112 plus tax and just do without the ticket upgrades.

Did anyone take advantage of that package last year?

Thanks,
Speed :teleport:

Hi, I had the package last year. We had previously booked the tickets including the park hopper and water park options and our package priced was reduced more than just the price of the add ons. But I think the discount on the room was not as much as for the November/December time frame.

I would suggest to get the AAA rate now and possibly change your reservation over to a package once those codes come out if it gives you a better price. Since ticket prices have just gone up, I guess you would be safe at least for a few months that there will be no increase. So no hurry to buy the tickets now.

LOL - Hey Lori!!! You crack me up!! My DH is from Breaux Bridge and they are REALLY cajun over there!! ;) I love to hear that accent though!!!

Your rate is awesome by the way!!! I called AAA to get a quote on our package and it's gonna save us close to $300!!!! So, I'm in the process of changing everything over!! That is too much of a savings to pass up!

But yeah, it's gonna be PACKED over Mardi Gras -- Everyone should plan another time to go............... LOL

Oh, and you'll be able to find us easy, just look for the one's in the LSU shirts!!!! ;)

GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got this deal the past 2 years. Along with free hoppers and waterparks, etc.... there was a small discount on the room as well. We had originally paid rack rate since it was a package and we purchased the hoppers, then when the deal came out, we had it applied to our reservation and we were refunded the difference plus we got a slight room rate reduction. I am in the process of changing my package I have booked to get the AAA rate and she told me that if a discount comes out - then we can go with whichever is going to save the most........ the AAA discount or whatever discount code comes out, but that we cannot have both!

Hope this helps!

Wendy

Hey Lori and everyone else....

First off, Lori....you are supposed to tell everyone that it will be super crowded so us Looose-e-anna people can have the place to ourselves. ;)

However....you are exactly right on the accents. I'm in the Cajun accent category down here about 70 miles southwest of New Orleans. Heck...I have relatives that live in the central part of our parish (Lafourche Parish) and most people from there have a different accent than we do down here in the southern part of the parish.

Just wanted to add my information for the first page:

February 2nd thru 9th....All Star Sports Resort

We are a group of 16 heading down to the World. I was able to snag the AAA rate as well....$65.60 plus tax.....$74.13 per night after tax.

Don't know if you are planning on getting more than one room, but I was reading that the policy changed on the AP discounts. Don't know if this is a rumor or the truth, but you supposedly can now only book one room per AP....meaning that each room has to have an AP holder to get the discount. In the past, you could book up to 3 rooms on one AP.

I know for a fact that they changed the AAA policy. When I called to apply the AAA discount, the CM told me they changed the policy from 3 rooms per AAA account to two rooms per AAA account. So....I had to have 2 people with AAA out of our 16 to be able to get the discount applied to all 4 rooms...2 rooms for one AAA membership....2 rooms for the other AAA membership.

Everyone else....be prepared to see alot of LSU Purple and Gold and alot of N.O. Saints Black and Gold apparel.....lol

Speed :teleport:

So you from "down da' bayou, cha?" Mais, I'm just right "up the bayou" from you! :lmao:

We're going during Mardi Gras break also. Just went to the new SuperWalmart and saw a lot of Saints and LSU apparel that I want to snatch up for our trip.

We'll be sporting Mardi Gras colors also!

Oh and I agree - going to be REALLY busy during that week so everyone else should stay home - :rotfl: just joking!

I went through the cardiac sonography program way back when in BR (where the MALL now is!!) and there was the CUTEST cajun chic in our class of 9. She is from Delcambre(pronouned "delcumb") I LOVED just sitting and listening to her talk. She got mad once (as she was/is a very "nice" gal) about a teacher situation we had and whew!! She could knock your socks off. It was HILARIOUS-the dialect made it all just so perfect!

Anyway- so...

We are going to be there 02/17 - 02/24 (presidents week). We have been there the last 4 years that week. It is crowded but manageable. Last year the codes did come out in November but I think Disney Visa card holders had a few days priority

What the weather like that time of year? We are about to book our trip for 2/15-2/25. I'm hoping it's not too crowded during that time!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Love the jokes!

I wonder how many people would stare if we actually talked like that at DW. It would be like bringing my grandparents with us. :) When we see someone in Saints or LSU or Mardi Gras attire, we should yell out "Hey Cha' how's ya mom n dem?" ......or not :rotfl:

We also are heading for Disney during Mardi Gras - although we no longer live in LA (moved for employment reasons; do miss the Boudin King in Crowley and their catfish poboys). Being homesick, we tried staying in PO resort a couple of trips back. Was disappointed because the PO restaurants did not (at that time, do not know about now) serve real Cajun food.

We're going Feb 2-9. How crowded will all the Mardi Gras folks make it at the end of the week? Got all of our ADRs booked. We're very excited!

the weather can run for the low 50's to the low 70's. I pack so we can layer.
The 16th to the 18th (pres weekend) will be very crowded with the rest of the week crowded but more manageable. Make sure to use the fastpass system as much as possible and get there when the parks open.

Would "the rest of the week" be the week AFTER? Or before? In other words, does Presidents Day start off a busy week, or wrap one up?

I sure will cha!!! I have been buying matching disney shirts for us all to wear. I may have to go ahead and make sure we all have our LSU and saints shirts on so ya'll can recognize us. I leave here on Jan 30th and will be there through the 10th. I will have 5 of my kids with me plus my niece and it looks like my nephew will be coming as well. So, if you see a crazy blonde lady with 7 kids with her, it's me!!!

Oh what a change from when we went there this year at the end of April! It was in the mid 90's every day! My DF will be SO happy to hear about these temps in February!!!

We're going for 10 nights so that should give us plenty of time to do everything. This past trip we only went for a week and we felt rushed!

Thanks!

I'm sorry but it's seem that you choose a pretty busy time to go the Disney.
I subscribe to Touring plans web site and they predict heavy crowd starting Saturday 6 Feb '08 to Sat, 23 Feb '08 (everday is '9' except 2 days is '8' crowds level). They predict that the waiting time at the headliners attraction would be:

8 = Peak waits of 75 - 84 minutes
9 = Peak waits of 85 - 94 minutes

The crowds slowly trail off during the week after. If you have the choice, seem better to go the week before President Week (mostly 5 and 6).
