FEBRUARY 2008 WDW travelers post HERE!!!

Since I'm new to Disney travel, I'm just wondering what I should be doing now? The package is booked (with Visa discount), the plane tickets purchased, dinner reservations have been made. So what is left? Do we just sort of wait around until it's time to go, or are there other things we haven't thought of? We're traveling with three little kids, ages 6, 5 and almost 2, so I want to be well-prepared!

Are you making an itinerary??? I do a basic outline of where we will go each morning and afternoon and evenings if we are going out. Just a guide to go buy and I add what things we shouldn't miss- stuff like that. I also make my mousekeeping envelopes out before we go as well, it saves time and you can just leave a leave an envelope when you go out to the parks every day.

BTW 42 DAYS FOR ME!!!!

Hey Everybody!!!

Hey Wendypooh and all-

I have to still call Disney about the slipper desserts for our CRT lunch, but everything else is done. Everything is paid except the Richard Petty tickets which will be paid on Friday!
I am still saving for meals/souvies but will be until we leave-taking $75 per paycheck-of which there are only about 3 left till we go. I get paid our first full day there but that will be for when we get home-but at least we will have cushion if we go over a little-but I do the envelope method for vacations... I make envelopes for each day and since we have most days planned meal-wise, I know how much to put in it for that day-if we have leftover, I will put it in the next days envelope. If we go over(we always have a little in our pockets too)it will come out of another day. We usually break even after all is said and done. We usually have it planned to a tee and it works out okay. This time I have saved a little more for wiggle room!
We usually bank on an avg of $100 per day-which we are doing-but we have 3 meals paid for already, so that is the wiggle room. We are not big souvenir people unless we see something we'd like to have at home-and usually buy on the last day or so. Thinking time. I don't like buying t-shirts-esp ones that are more than $10!! I bought all our Disney t-shirts to match for under $5 each. I stamped "Celebrate Life" on the back of them. I don't mind the fitted kind (I got a pink DL one when we were there) but regret buying my kids $24 HSM tees from DL when I saw similar ones for a lot less at Walmart and JCPenney's. Well, they DO love them!

Anyway- I cannot wait to pack my self!!!:laundy:

Hey, Feb travelers! Is it too late to join? We are going 2/28 - 3/2 for a short trip to celebrate my birthday on 2/29 & DH's birthday on 3/01. We'll both be turning 40...I say I'm only turning 10 since I'm a Leap Year Baby!! I wasn't hard to convince him since it is also ESPN Weekend. We are staying at All Star Sports for the first time. I have our ADRs done...'Ohana for my birthday and LeCellier for DH's birthday and Chef Mickey's for breakfast on our departure day. I don't have a counter since oldest DD will have to miss 2 days of school it is going to be a surprise trip for the girls but we are at 71 days today.

I look forward to hearing about all of your trips...

Hi LizAgna. My children are missing school, too (3 days). Their teachers will let them do the work before they leave :) . This is the first time we are pulling them from school for a trip like this, but the plane tickets were hundreds of dollars cheaper leaving on Wednesday :thumbsup2 .
We are at 56 days :yay:

Oh man if we wouldve gone when they were that young, I probably would've taken 2 weeks to.. How fun!

43 days for us!!!

Does your $100 per day include meals? We decided to do the Disney Dining plan. Theoretically that should cover all of our meals. I'm trying to figure out how much spending money we'll need each day. I'm sure we'll need some for snacks and stuff, but I'm not sure what else we'll spend our money on. I'm sure there will be plenty of options! :) However, I don't want to go overboard. I like your idea of having each day's money in an envelope. I'm just not sure how much to put in our envelopes!

How do you all know how many days until your trip? I only know what my ticker tells me, and that's calculated in weeks, not days. I guess I could get out a calendar and count the days, but I'm too lazy for that!:guilty:

I already sealed mine but I am pretty sure I put in $2-3 a day for the 4 of us at POP.

I think, and this can start a BIG debate, that as long as my kids are doing well (if they were in the school system) making good grades(A's and B's), I would take them out at any age/grade.

46 days!!-Lori

My son has a paper Disney countdown chain that he takes a link off of every day, so each morning I hear how many days are left! ;)

Mr. Mike tells me every morning and we have our nifty little countdown thingamabob at home!

Yes, meals and any souvies we want. Like I said though , souvies are not as big a deal to us(an ornament or something for the house and we like to get some Mickey Mac n Cheeses so we can have remnants of our trip in the weeks after) and the kids have thier own money for souvenirs or whatever they choose to spend it on. By the time we go, they will have earned AND been gifted (birthdays and Christmas and whatnot)about $100-120 each! I think that is MORE than enough!

I guess figure out what tips will be for your table service meals and how much you like to spend on souvenirs-other than that, you really don't need any other money. If the DDP wasn't so much more expensive for us(DD10 is considered an adult) I think the cash we needed would be very minimal.

On a side note- I am pretty sure I am getting Pal Mickey when we walk in to the resort! That will be my big purchase. I just know that THIS time, i will get him the first day should I definitely decide to to buy him. Everytime I have thought I wanted him it was at the end of a trip-and that would have been wasteful I think!
I am really wanting to hit the outlet stores outside Disney. Since it is the beginning of a new year, all thier last years stuff will be there probably!

Boy - you miss a day or two and you get to do a lot of catching up!
Welcome to our new friends!:hippie:
43 days - YEAH!

I've printed and binded (bound?) my kids' autograph books and passports for Epcot, printed my mousekeeping envelopes (their still empty though), laminated, bought, and made most if not all of my window decorations, purchased almost all of my packing list items (a few left), received my P&P party tickets, made my iten & adr's - Are we there yet??????

I've done so much but yet, I still feel like I need to do so much more....

I just finished reading the Complete Guide to Disneyworld, passed it to my sister (who's going 2 weeks before us), and just started reading Birnbaums' 2008.

I think everyone I work with knows I am - I mean WE are going to DW for Mardi Gras. I JUST CAN'T CONTAIN MYSELF.:rotfl2: :rotfl:

So anyway - how's everybody else doing?:rolleyes1
