YAY! Sabrina-I am so happy you are feeling better and I could help-I have warm fuzzies
Anyway, I homeschool and I also work 1-2 days a week average(mostly weekends) and for me stay home we have to set what we can spend. I CAN tell you that we blow it sometimes -like this month with unexpected visitors(lice)- and other times too-like when I went to California for CEU's(NO my work did not pay for it
)-necessary to keep my license but not planned very well.
Because we did not learn very well as kids about budgeting and how to spend less than what the good Lord allows us-we are trying DESPERATELY to change our ways and teach our kids so they can live a better life, debt free and smart. We were not smart about our finances-we were young and stupid-and we now know that there will always be the "unexpected visitors" so we plan for them as best as we can-but last month we had our minivan locking system break and that was also unexpected-too many of those can really bust your plan, man
.
Unfortunately, we had a BIG "unexpected visitor" oin 2000(leukemia)and we will be paying for that for 20 years. We lost a salary and had more expenses so we used school loans to float us through(DH was getting his masters). Don't know if that was dumb or not but we felt desperate at the time and needed income.I don't regret anything from those years but it is a slight headache
to know how much we owe-and it is a private school loan and escapes most financial help-we have looked, beleive me! We have a tight budget and yeah, it sucks but we have finally accepted it
!
And going through what we went through with Ashton just blew our minds-we are NOT the same as before that ordeal and it has taught us a LOT-like the "time" thing I told you. I hope my kids come out of childhood knowing what REALLY matters-money is a means to an end(and hopefully more abundantly in thier lives-more freeing -to help others), but TIME spent means so much more in the end.
There I go, getting preachy again. Sorry.
It is so EASY to get caught up the the "world"-so easy. I still do and I don't think we can escape that. Just, every so often, we need to stop and really let it sink into our hearts what matters. And implement it into our lives as best we can.
Enjoy your holidays chic, can't wait to meet you!!
Lori
BTW- my kids pick "vacation" too-every time!!

Hey Tara how long did it take for your passports to come in?
LOL
You all are a bunch of really sweet people. Sometimes I just sit back and take it all in and I have to say that your conversations made me reflect on a lot things.
), I get to see Disney fireworks!!!

That was before kids and about a year into marriage. Half the time I was on the road with DH (he was traveling around the state and so if he was anywhere w/in an hour from BR, I went with him. We spent many weeks living at the Hampton Inn on College drive-even had a pumpkin in the window for Halloween that year! We were at my dads mostly just on weekends and I was there when DH was further out. That was pretty much the start of our debt-school. We had it in our heads we'd be the "career couple" and be able to pay it all off in a couple years-funny how LIFE can change direction so quickly! God had other plans for us-He said "no". Maybe if we didn't have that happen we wouldn't be so passionate about teaching our kids how to handle money the right way-we hope! Who knows. I just want it paid off forever-gone. We haven't gotten into more debt in YEARS until I needed to get CEU's or lose my license-and my stupid job won't pay a dime, nor do they offer us CEU opportunities. I even pondered if it was meant for me to lose my license, b/c the debt thing for it just burns me up. We found the least expensive(me and my boss) most CEU's conference we could-and that happened to be in Napa Valley(ironic huh??-I mean, Napa is not cheap!). We stayed at a less expensive hotel to save $$$. About half of that trip was paid cash beforehand-and I can claim all of it!!
oh well.
