FEBRUARY 2008 WDW travelers post HERE!!!

Boy - you miss a day or two and you get to do a lot of catching up!
Welcome to our new friends!:hippie:
43 days - YEAH!

I've printed and binded (bound?) my kids' autograph books and passports for Epcot, printed my mousekeeping envelopes (their still empty though), laminated, bought, and made most if not all of my window decorations, purchased almost all of my packing list items (a few left), received my P&P party tickets, made my iten & adr's - Are we there yet??????

I've done so much but yet, I still feel like I need to do so much more....

I just finished reading the Complete Guide to Disneyworld, passed it to my sister (who's going 2 weeks before us), and just started reading Birnbaums' 2008.

I think everyone I work with knows I am - I mean WE are going to DW for Mardi Gras. I JUST CAN'T CONTAIN MYSELF.:rotfl2: :rotfl:

So anyway - how's everybody else doing?:rolleyes1

What exactly are the passports for Epcot? I know I've read about these, but don't really remember. Wondering if it is something my girls would like?

I have to say I've been watching airfare, and it has gone up, so looks like we are driving again. Oh well. I am so ready to be there!

How much do you put in the mousekeeping envelopes?

I generally put in about a dollar a day per person, thats always worked for me!

Does your $100 per day include meals? We decided to do the Disney Dining plan. Theoretically that should cover all of our meals. I'm trying to figure out how much spending money we'll need each day. I'm sure we'll need some for snacks and stuff, but I'm not sure what else we'll spend our money on. I'm sure there will be plenty of options! :) However, I don't want to go overboard. I like your idea of having each day's money in an envelope. I'm just not sure how much to put in our envelopes!

I think the easiest thing to do is just add a credit card to the room key and charge whatever u need and u can get a print out at any time to see what the totals are. I hate to carry cash on vacation!

How do you all know how many days until your trip? I only know what my ticker tells me, and that's calculated in weeks, not days. I guess I could get out a calendar and count the days, but I'm too lazy for that!:guilty:

If you go to waltdisneyworld.com they will tell u under your vacation itinerary. Or there are other tickers that tell u days.

Thanks for the welcome!! I see there are other TGMers out there. We used him for our trip last June and I won't go back without him!

You all have done so much more than me!! Since we will only have 2 full days & 2 half days at the parks I say that I'm not going to pack as much but I'm sure when it gets down to it I will. I don't know that we are going to do autograph books this time. In June the girls weren't really into the autographs...they still love getting their pictures made with the characters though. I may have to get DH an autograph book since we will be going to the Studios during the ESPN weekend...I should make him some kind of "cute" one :rotfl:.

Yes, meals and any souvies we want. Like I said though , souvies are not as big a deal to us(an ornament or something for the house and we like to get some Mickey Mac n Cheeses so we can have remnants of our trip in the weeks after) and the kids have thier own money for souvenirs or whatever they choose to spend it on. By the time we go, they will have earned AND been gifted (birthdays and Christmas and whatnot)about $100-120 each! I think that is MORE than enough!

I guess figure out what tips will be for your table service meals and how much you like to spend on souvenirs-other than that, you really don't need any other money. If the DDP wasn't so much more expensive for us(DD10 is considered an adult) I think the cash we needed would be very minimal.

On a side note- I am pretty sure I am getting Pal Mickey when we walk in to the resort! That will be my big purchase. I just know that THIS time, i will get him the first day should I definitely decide to to buy him. Everytime I have thought I wanted him it was at the end of a trip-and that would have been wasteful I think!
I am really wanting to hit the outlet stores outside Disney. Since it is the beginning of a new year, all thier last years stuff will be there probably!

Lori

What is Pal Mickey?

The DDP is a good deal for us, because my husband and I love to eat at restaurants when we're on vacation, so we're looking forward to the dinners each night. Our kids are young enough that they still get the children's rate for the DDP. So, in the end, I think we'll end up spending less than we would've otherwise.

What does everyone use for autograph books? I think my kids would be interested in getting autographs.

Sorry for all the questions! I just want to make sure we're prepared. This is not a cheap vacation, so I don't want to miss out on anything due to lack of planning.

ITA, it's a good deal for us, I doubt we could eat the 2 1/2 meals for $96 dollars a day.

We made autograph books our first trip and bought this past trip's at Everything POP.

Yup, it's better to be prepared! Happy Planning :thumbsup2

Lori, we got a Pal Mickey a few trips ago and DS loves him!!! I'd say get him first thing! He is really fun!

OP ~ As for the Mousekeeping envelopes - we typically put in $3.00 a day - there are 3 of us - so $1 each! We leave envelopes for each day as opposed to just the end, since we may not have the same mousekeeper each day!

As for the autograph books, I've purchased and made them, you can do either, but really, if your kiddo's would like to do it, then make sure you get them. I got DS the Pirate one, the one with the compass in it, he's gonna like it!! ( A tip, I got a lot of my stuff on Ebay - really much cheaper than waiting till you get to the park. ) Also, I will order my arrival basket from Peggy in Jan. ( I'm making one also).

As for Epcot Passports, I bought DS his passport book with the stickers - but there is a website where you can print and make your own......... I'll try to find it. It's the same one where you can print mousekeeping envelopes also, if you don't want to make your own.

I ordered my slipper for my B-day at Cindy's!!! Whoo Hoo :woohoo:

I printed my passports from Pat's Disney Designs. Here's her thread with a link to her website.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1363902

I plan on having the kids collect signatures and stamps, etc. from each of the Kidcot stations.

She also has Mickey Head character pages for personalized autograph books. I had a very nice person send me theirs that was easier to fit on 4x6 index cards. I've added a couple more characters and would be willing to share if anyone wants it. I got the autograph pages bound at a Kwik Kopy for $2.17 each. The passport pages we just laminated the cover at work, double stick taped the pages together, and stapled them like a book would be. It was fun for me and saved quite a few $$$.

So aside from the meet for the P&PP what else is going on?? What are everyone's plans for the evenings? Maybe a PI meet one night??

Okay, I opened one of my mousekeeping envelopes and I put $3 in each envelope. I guess maybe I should have done $4 reading y'alls posts!

As far as food, we bring a LOT. We do not eat out table service everyday. We eat b/fast daily in the room b/f we head out and lunch half the days will be brought. Yeah, I frequent the budget boards!!:thumbsup2 But we have done that for each of our last 3 trips with kids and even the 1 without way back in '95-except DL this past March b/c it was a short trip and far and it was just different.
I just feel we can go more often and not lose out an a BIT of magic if we bring some of our own stuff and I don't mind it at all. From what i remember it was going to be about $120 per day for the DDP for us and that doesn't include Rainforest Cafe and it takes 2 credits for CRT and the luau.PLUS in 2008 that doesn't include tips. I KNOW we can eat and buy souvies on $100-$120 max per day average. Some days we spend $40 and some we will spend $140. We miss no magic . I takes away nothing from our WDW experience. Plus , most of those $140 days are already paid for. PLUS we will have the DDE which will knock off 20% of table service meals incl. CRT and the luau and anything we get at the food court at the POP.
Having the AP really has paid off for us. I wouldn't do that for a shorter trip. I figured out we will save about $300 over all-possibly more. We saved $20 a night over AAA Sun -Thurs (saving us $80). DDE is $65 but will be worth it after our first night going to the luau-we are going to save $60 just that night with the DDE. So the rest of the trips table service meals will save us a lot more. I will keep track of it as we go along.

We also bring our snacks so we don't feel tempted to buy them all at thier horrendous prices. We DO get one or a drink here and there-and this time we will be indulging in Dole Whip Floats!! We got hooked on those in DL. But we share b/c by the time you get to the next ride, there is no time to suck it down fast enough. We'd rather share it ,enjoy it and get another to share later!

We freeze drink boxes/capri suns and our waters and we put them in our plug in ice chest. Last time they stayed frozen the whole trip in there. That was a 5 day trip. I have a hot pot that we can heat up water for oatmeal and grits and even make mac n cheese. It boils water in about 60 seconds. It was $10 from Linens and Things. I bring those pre-soaped dish towels to wash it out. We bring paper plates, etc for sandwiches and baggies for packing them. We bring milk and some fruitcups and granola bars. I have a huge long list. If we flew, I'd ship it all.
I have been saving my freebies from the freebie board for this trip but have gotten so much that my DH, who travels a good bit, has been able to use it too. Toothpaste, deodorant, shampoos, conditioners, cereals, razors,etc... toothbrushes too! Plus he brings home lotions and soap from his traveling too, sometimes.

WOW!! I MUST sound frugal!!
It has been fun though b/c for a year now, I have been getting these things in the mail for our trip and it has helped me get through the year of waiting!! I have a couple bags in my room filled with stuff. Also everytime I shop for groceries, i have started getting something for the trip so it doesn't hit all at once!

The Pal Mickey is a Mickey that is interactive with each park - he'll talk and tell jokes and inform you about the rides/attractions. It's neat and DS just loves him.

We have gotten the Dining plan the last 3 trips and we went with the deluxe plan this trip. It is such a good deal for us. We like to take the breaks and sit down and eat. Plus we like to do a lot of character meals for DS - it gives him a lot of extra time with the characters. Plus the dp covers our drinks, snacks, etc. We just like the flexibility of it, it works for us!

But, NO, I don't think you are too frugal............ I think that whatever works for each family - then so be it!!

We've thought about doing the Deluxe Dining Plan, but it seems like ALOT of food. Did you find yourselves having to base your daily itineraries around the meals and were you forcing yourselves to use up all the meals and snacks?

We're doing the Deluxe DDP too this trip. We love the TS meals, especially the character ones. For us, it is a great deal, but I realize it's not for everyone. Can't wait for this trip.

Yes, the plan can definitely work out to your benefit if you take advantage of all its meals and snacks. Do your kids qualify for the child's rate?

Yes, they are under 9, so for our family of 5 it's a great deal. We are eating 2 TS a day and even eating at a couple of Signature places. We enjoy the breaks in the day, and my DS really needs the more intimate time to meet the characters vs lines. TS fits our style perfectly, so the new DXDDP is perfect.

Hey!!!

Had Christmas with DH side today and my BIL and SIL gave us beautiful photo albums for our trip!! They were really thoughtful of our upcoming WDW trip for us and the kids-many travel related items.

I think I'd love the DDP if DD10 was not charged the adult price, tips were included like this year and I didn't feel like I'd be having my trip around meals-we just don't like to make too many ADR's-we eat when we are hungry-don't like to schedule that-it is too confining for us. We like to take things as they come!!:hippie: I just know having ADR's for EVERY day would not be fun for our family. I am not THAT scheduled on vacation.

However, I am concerned that due to the DDP, that walk-ins are relatively harder to do than they used to be. I guess we will see, or we'll be doing more CS meals than we plan-but that is okay!!

I cannot wait to start packing our suitcases next month!

I am new to this board. Can someone tell me when and where are the dis meets going to be for mardi gras week? We are from Louisiana. Our cast is me DH DD 15 DD 7 months old and DS 10. We are staying at AKL from feb 4-10. We are doing the dinning plan and we are flying. I didn't read every page on this board because I came in too late. I think there are like 88 pages. I just skipped to the last few pages. I also joined TGM. I love that website also.

Merry Christmas

Welcome Coteau Chic- the mini meet is Feb 2-6:30-ish in front of the Jungle Cruise area. I think a good bit of us are from Louisiana or nearby planning our Mardi gras trip!

Cannot wait!!! Go to page 1 for more info...

Merry Christmas, Friends!!!
