February 13, 2011 - 7 Night Mexican Riviera Sailing on the Wonder

Hi, Purplejewel...a little closer to the cruise all one of us needs to do is call DCL and ask our reservation numbers to be linked. All this does is put us at the same table. I've done it a couple times before, and have always been glad I did! I'll PM you further about this.

Jimmy Buffett is in town tonight, so we're off for some leftover tropical vacation fun. It cracks me up to see the Parrotheads getting older and saggier and balder, but Jimmy just keeps rocking on in his shorts and bare feet at the concert. The appeal of finding the little bit of pirate in oneself keeps his franchise going, I guess.

On the subject of the Love Boat, last year I got on to a Cruise Critic thread about the Love Boat and the old Pacific Princess, and for one week, Gavin McLeod (yes, the formidable teddy bear Captain Stubing) was posting on the site, answering questions, etc. Too funny.

Have a great weekend, everyone, from muggy, sticky, smoldering Chicagoland.

Glad to see some activity here:cool1:! We are franticly searching flights too. Our nearest southwest is 100 miles away! Not sure what we will do. Panicking:scared1: that we will wait to long and pay way to much. We have not done alot of flying so this is new to us. Right now we can do round trip on delta for $350pp. Does it just go up from here or will they announce deals soon? If I see any discounts I will let everyone know!

Air seems a little high right now. I did find air to ontario at $220 which is about $130 pp cheaper. I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle. I think I would fly on the 12th and stay at the doubletree near the port and then spend a few days at DL before heading home.

Hi everyone, looks like only 120 more days until the cruise! Will be going with my husband and daughter (8) for our first cruise ever. A little nervous about sea-sickness, but hoping to distract myself with just having a great time! As a total newbie to this, do any of the pros out there have any cruising tips for us??? Thanks! :goodvibes

On my first cruise (and every cruise thereafter:lmao:) I have gotten sea sick. However, I even get motion sick sometimes in cars (like when I try to read in the car) so I expected to get sea sick. I just take a bottle of dramamine with me and about 2 hours before I know the ship will "set sail" and start moving, I pop a pill. The bottle says you can take several a day but one usually does it for me. Just enough to keep me from feeling ill. I take one each morning and then I'm good for the day. On my first cruise, even given my history with car sickness, I didn't bring any medication and got so ill on the first evening that I really didn't enjoy dinner or the show at all. After buying the medication on board (WOW did it cost alot on board) taking the medication, I was fine. Now, I never take a cruise without my own bottle of medecine. My DH has never had a problem though - I guess it depends on the person. I would bring some medecint just to be on the safe side though. See you on the cruise:banana:

Just booked our Palo dinner on Valentine's day, plus brunch, high tea, and the whale watch excursion in Cabo. Not sure if we'll do any other excursions or just wander about by ourselves.

Sure makes it seem closer when you can start filling in dates and times!

We will also be doing a few days pre or post cruise and i was wondering where you will be staying?

We're staying at the Villas at Grand Californian using our DVC points.
We're going to be there from Feb. 11th through the 13th.
Did you decide on where to stay?

So for the first cruisers, the reservation period for excursions and Palo is 75 days prior to sailing?

Just made our final payment today, booking Palo on Monday! Is there a fish extender list circulating? If so, please add us. We have cruised with DCL three times, but have never been apart of the fish extendor experience. Do you need cabin numbers or participants names. Please let me know.

Palo does a "to die for" brunch on at-sea days with personal wood fired pizzas, mimosas, amazing breads, cakes, cheeses, shrimp, cooked entrees and also breakfast items, done buffet style with some cook-to-order items like omelets and the pizzas.

They also do a high tea with, well, tea of course, and scones, clotted cream, cakes, etc. It is very elegant.

Lots of fun to do these in addition to a Palo dinner!

Hi everyone,

Online check in started yesterdat for me! This is getting so excited. I haven't figured out post cruise hotel near DL yet so I need to get on that.

I'm subscribed to this thread but I haven't been getting notifications. I'll have to check back more often.

Just wanted to inquire as to the status of everyone and fish extenders? There are 8 of us going and all eight of us are interested. This would be our first time.

DH having cold feet about flying to LAX:thumbsup2. So we are down to the last days before we can change it. I am running the numbers and getting all the info together so he will feel better. Any advice? We normaly drive to Port Canaveral so there is no flight plans and worries, I think that is what is stressing him the most:rotfl2:He is a what if guy. We have to be prepared in case we miss the flight and have a backup plan:scared1: he stresses me out:lmao:I can not wait to RELAX:banana:.
As far as the FE list someone is going to have to volunteer to keep up with it, I am not that organized and I have my stressing hubby to take care of:rolleyes1. Anyone thought about a meet:grouphug: on the cruise, we did one on our August cruise and it was fun to put faces to screen names:surfweb:.

Sorry to be exiting this great group but my DD's school teachers have not yet ratified their contract and it looks like it will place the mid-winter break in the following week so we are cancelling our reservation and moving to the 20th.
I hope you all have smooth sailing, "wonderful" weather and magical memories!

Maybe I will post something on the main page to see if someone can help set up a fish extender "sticky" so we can get this all set up. I don't think we have a tun of people but I would love to do it none the less!!

Hello, everyone!

My wife and I will be on board, as well. This will be our 4th cruise, but 2nd on our favorite cruise line and first to the MR! (The others have all been Bahamian/Caribbean cruises). We will be celebrating our 20th anniversary on this little foray and are very much looking forward to it.

I've been to L.A. only once (on business) - flew into SNA - and have never been to LAX. We're flying from Columbus, Ohio on Southwest and will probably take the flight into LAX, since those appear to be the lowest fares for us.

We're flying in on Saturday (arrive mid-afternoon) and are considering staying at the Disneyland Hotel and visiting Downtown Disney on Saturday evening. However, I can't seem to wrap my arms around travel options from airport to Disneyland and, then, from Disneyland to the port. (Plus, I suppose, the trip from the port back to LAX after the cruise concludes).

Any ideas what the best options would be and how much the cost is? Where can I find this out? Is there a Magical Express from LAX to Disneyland? I can't imagine a cab ride is going to be cheap. I've read about a SuperShuttle to Disneyland, but it says it makes several stops on the route and I don't see anything about the trip to the port. :confused3

Any insight would be fantastic!

Again, we're really looking forward to this! Enjoy reading all your posts and look forward to sharing the Wonder with you all!

PS - We have two teenage sons who have yet to cruise with us and we're not feeling guilty at all. Heh, heh. Okay, maybe a bit, but perhaps we'll be able to get them on the Dream in the future...

Braycon--We are arriving into LAX from Boston on Friday and are still trying to finalize our transportation, I have been looking at other threads and have started a conversation with DK Livery Services, for 8 of us, two cars from the Airport to DL, From DL to the port and from the Port to LAX we are looking at $518, which sounds high, but that is two cars and for 8 people, gratuity included. I will keep you posted if I find anything else out there. We are getting close, so I want to wrap this up soon.

Shawn

Thanks, Shawn! I appreciate you sharing any information you come up with. I don't want to break the bank, but I do want to be sure it doesn't take four hours to get from place-to-place (a challenge in L.A., I know) and that we do actually get where we're going when we need to be there. We don't want to be arriving at the port on Sunday late...

Good luck with the big group - I'm sure it's goint to be a great time!

Again, thanks!

Dave
