February 11, 2012 Eastern Caribbean on the Disney Magic***

What is the advantage to doing a GTY?

From my understanding, you're guaranteed at least that category of room or better. So, there is a chance you will be upgraded to another cat room without paying extra.

I don't think the group should ever not let new people in. The more the merrier. As far as the FE, I'm personally ok with keeping that open until 30-45 days out for the deadline for joining. However, I know some people do personalized gifts and I think it would be hard if there is a huge increase in amount of people that want to join that close to cruise date. My last cruise cut off the FE at 75 days and it worked out.

I hope my postings about this didn't imply that we should stop letting people into the group ever, even right up until we sail! I agree completely, the more the merrier!

A cut-off deadline would ONLY be for the FE Exchange!

I cannot answer this, I didn't know we had a choice (maybe on DVC points we didn't?). We did have a choice as to category, the higher the category, the more points needed, similar to cash-pay - the higher the category, the more cash needed lol.

I kind of hope we do get upgraded, I am just a teensy bit leery of an inside cabin. Not that I've ever been claustrophobic, but it will seem weird not even having a window, not to see if it's daylight, dusk, dark, etc., if you know what I mean.

Everytime we booked a cruise with points we would get our room number right away.
If you "paid" points for a category higher then a inside stateroom then they would not put you in one.

I'm wondering how far in advance I need to pay our final cruise payment, to insure it is processed in time for us to book spa, palo, etc, on our first available date. Does it just take a day or two?

Another question...any other early risers? My husband likes sleeping in, and relaxing in the room for a while in the morning. I want to get out of the room the minute I wake up. I imagine enjoying the sunrise on deck with a coffee. Anyone else have this differnce in their traveling party? We could set up an "early morning disboards Kaffee Klatsch".

I tend to be an early riser, and am hoping that I'll get up and go for a nice walk while the ship is quieter in that time!

That sounds great! I hate walking alone. I'm too much of a talker for that I guess. :-)

Anja,

My dh Mark is the early riser among us, I don't like being up too early ;). He'll probably go off in search of decent coffee and try not to disturb me. He might be interested in that, maybe there will be another dude so he's not outnumbered lol.

I have just booked this cruise. It will be our first Disney Cruise. We have cruised in the Med once before. There will be Myself my dw and my dd who will be 6 the week before. We are flying in from the UK and this will be our 6th time we have been to Florida.

Sorry if this is a duplicate post, I was in the middle of it and hit a key and "poof" it was gone :(.

So CONGRATULATIONS on booking your first cruise! You couldn't have picked a nicer group of people to cruise with (*ahem* lol). This is my first cruise too, but dh's second. Although his first was as a teen, so that was 35 years ago so I say it doesn't really count! (We're cruising kidfree, too.)

There are a bunch of us finding each other online and generating much excitement:dance3:, we're going to have one awesome cruise!

We also have a forum on Facebook. If you're not a member there, you can join at www.facebook.com. If you're already a member, just go do a search there for us at February 11 Disney Magic Cruise. It is a closed group, which means only group members can view the page and post comments and replies there. Just request to join and you'll be in! We chat with each other, ask questions, and just have fun while waiting for our real fun onboard. I also try to keep updated posts there with the demographics of our group. For example, I can tell you that we have another 6yo little girl amongst us :).

Some of us are planning to meet up once onboard, if that's something you're interested in. Then there's a subset of us participating in the Fish Extender Exchange. If you don't already know what a Fish Extender is, this will tell you what you want to know http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-cruise-line/meets.htm. People decide for themselves how involved they want to be with the FE gifts; some personalize something for every person; some just give a general gift for each stateroom; some give the kids gifts and their parents something else; some people make all their gifts, other folks give store-bought things, it's all up to you. Here's a board with ideas http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1522535.

If you're interested in an onboard meet-up, we'll figure out where/when as our cruise date approaches.

I volunteered to organize the FE group, so if you're interested in participating in that, shoot me a private-message here or on Fb, with your family's demographics (names, stateroom number if/when you have it, and any particular likes, dislikes or hobbies of your family members - some FE participants like to personalize the swaps they give out).

We also have a forum on www.cruisecritic.com, but so far it's a much slower board (not computer speed, but frequency of visitors and posts there, I've only seen two folks over there, I think I'll go give them a little nudge ;).)

Hello!! Just had to say that my daughter turns 6 the week before we cruise too:thumbsup2 Maybe they can meet up and hang out!!

Hey, we're coming too! This will be our first cruise. It will be me, dh, and our two sons 8 & 10. How do you think about this all year? I'm already so excited I can barely speak.

It's not been easy, dh will tell you he thinks I've been obsessed ;). And then we are planning our eldest dd's wedding for next April, but dh and I are snowbirds and we're leaving for Florida in late December, so we've held her engagement party already, and the SECRET SURPRISE bridal shower is in just a few weeks, so I had to set aside my cruise fun ... and just today he mentioned that I seem to have forgotten all about the cruise, but he does not know lol, he only visits the cruise page on Fb, he doesn't come here, DISboards is my domain mwahahahaha ;).

Seriously, though, I volunteered to keep a list for an onboard meet-&-greet as well as the Fish Extender exchange, so if you'd like to participate in those, shoot me a private message here or on Facebook. (Look for our February 11 Disney Magic Cruise. page on Facebook.com once you have your own account there, and request to join. If you want to be in the FE group, I'll need your cruise-party demographics (names, kids' ages if you have kids with you, stateroom number, any Disney or non-Disney likes or hobbies for those who want to personalize their FE gifts) ...

We also have a forum at Cruise Critic http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1359863 but it's a quieter board than here or Facebook.

I am so freakin' excited too, all the time LOL! It's gonna be an awesome cruise!

I also booked our cruise with DVC and didn't get assigned a room number. I cruised in october and didn't get a room number assigned when i booked with DVC but they had assigned it by the time we received our pre planning booklet in the mail.

So what I'm anxiously wondering, is, how close to the cruise date did you receive that preplanning booklet?

To be honest I don't remember how many days exactly. We will be able to start booking shore excursions, spa, and Palo in about a month so you can definetly be looking forward to that :-)
