I've just booked POP for Feb 5-12 and had called Disney to ask if they have any events going on that week. They said the only thing as of now is cheer competitions. What should I expect crowd wise? Has anyone gone during cheer competitions? Its just my husband and I going for this trip and it will probably be a once in a lifetime trip. We have also looked into possibly booking Jan 8-15 instead. Would that be fewer crowds? Am I over thinking this???

Also, I've heard there are king size beds at the value resorts, but they don't advertise them. How can I try to get a room with a king?

You will see large groups of teenage girls dressed alike who travel in swarms, and who cheer and chant. But the groups are not large enough to have a macro effect on the parks or the resorts. However, they can have a micro effect on a particular attraction or resort. For example, we were in DHS during a large competition and we did our usual rush to TSMM followed by a dash to RnR. We had done this numerous times before and usually end up with a 10-20 minute wait for RnR. This time, when we got to RnR, the wait was 90 minutes. I asked the CM what the heck happened and she said that a huge mass of cheer groups all arrived at the park at 9:00 and made a beeline toward RnR as their first ride of the day, and immediately bumped up the wait to 90 minutes. On the whole, the park was no more crowded than one might expect. But when you put a quarter of the opening hour crowd into one single line, it makes a difference. After that episode, we didn't really notice the cheer groups for the rest of the day (or the trip), except for some impromptu cheering in line, or while walking around the park. Lots of folks here get down on such public displays of "spirit". Honestly, it doesn't bother me a bit.

Thanks, maybe we will keep our reservations and not switch to another date.
