Feb.4,2006. Who else is sailing?

Marcy - you got your documents yesterday and you didn't let us know until today? We are definately getting close.

TigerB - I am so jealous. A week at WDW and the Illuminations cruise. I wish we could going you for both. We aren't arriving until Thursday. We are staying at the Nick Hotel. I have my DD a choice of the HDDR dinner show or the Nick Hotel and she choose wrong. I haven't heard much about the hotel so I hope it is as much fun as the pictures make it look.

What do you all think of the new first night club schedule? I just checked over on the regular cruise board and noticed the discussion about the first night being only an open house (parent's have to stay if the kid's don't have check-out priv.) My kids are going to be split between the club and lab so it looks like we will get a chance to visit both.

I just spoke with Disney Cruise Line and they said that documents are out for our cruise!!!! I finally upgraded to a verandah (had to pay for it) but I think that it will be worth it!! Still on waiting list for main seating but I'll try to see if anything opens up after we get on the ship!!! Can't wait to start packing!!!! :hyper:

Hi,

I just checked my ressie at Disney website. We've been upgraded! We were in Cat. 10 Secret Porthole Room. We're now in a Cat. 8 Deluxe Oceanview (actually only a few doors down from our original room) and have no obstruction! :goodvibes

Anyone else? Would've loved a jump to a verandah but I'm not holding my breath :faint:

Hahahaha -- I'm going to like you very much when we meet IRL.

I almost posted last night, but I was packing for a business trip, and resisted the urge. I knew if I came online, I'd end up here for an hour. :teeth:

Congrats!

We paid for our upgrade, but because it was a FL resident discount, it was a negligible payment to go from a 9 to a 5. This is our first verandah cabin, so we're excited and apprehensive.

Marcy -- why are you apprehensive about a varenda?

Stacy, I've never done SOA before -- I did the original Luau years ago...so I'm excited. We specifically chose the 3rd because it seems like a cool thing to do the night before the cruise. It's too funny how we keep missing each other! Maybe you should meet us at Boma for breakfast? :teeth:

I hate the idea of staggered seating time! It makes no sense to me...oh well, it may work out.

Laura -- congrats on upgrade!

Does anyone know what DCL's new policy on bringing alcohol onboard is? While I don't drink much, I was going to bring a WA wine to Bill's party, because we have great wines in WA, and it's nice to share... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I swear - I don't know HOW I let my husband talk me into this trip change...it's causing me ulcers for sure.

Like many of you, we have been planning this trip for approx. 2 years. We are doing a week in WDW at GF the week before the cruise, and then the cruise.

Like many of you, LOTS of planning has gone into this. It's a surprise trip for my mom who's turning 50 and we have TONS of surprises planned (i.e., that we are joining her and StepDad on the trip, separate flights to keep that surprise, limo transports all around, that we are staying at GF, that we are going on IllumiNations cruise, Segway tour, breakfast at Cindy's, 1900 park fare dinner with prince charming, Spirit of Aloha dinner show, Richard Petty Driving Experience, then the cruise iteself which is a whole separate surprise that she won't even know about until we drive up to Port Canaveral...and all the surprises on that side of the trip: scuba diving in St. Maarten, cabana massage, spa experiences, Dolphin Encounter, Stingrays at CC, you name it...she's getting it.) Don't get me wrong - it's been a blast planning all this but granted, it's been a LOT of work. The plans are finally ALL settled (even with a disruption of Independence Air going out of business and us having to find flights all over again) and we are in the home stretch.

Well....WEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLL....I, wifey-poo, made the mistake of going on the boards yesterday to find out a sweet little tidbit that just changed everything: APassholders and DVC members (which we are) are invited to a special sneak preview ride of Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom the last week in January...before its debut in April '06. I made the HUGE mistake of telling this to DH. DH is now heck-bent on doing that. The crusher is that the last day for the special sneak preview riding event is Sunday Jan. 29. We don't arrive till Monday Jan. 30. But SOME HOW, I let DH talk me into going A DAY EARLY to WDW to make this sneak preview and ride. I am giving myself ulcers now. We were *finally* in the home stretch and planning was all done. Now, we have to: cancel our going-out flights, book flights for a day earlier, book a hotel for day earlier, move rental car up by 1 day, change flights for mom and stepdad so they now get in earlier on Monday (since we will already be there), change limo arrangements to pick up monday earlier, and secretly swap our 6-day park hopper tickets we bought last night with mom's 7-day park hoppers...which she only needed 6-day but she was like, "oh, it's only $4 more to get 7 day...maybe we will stay an extra day before going to see the relatives the following week." (I couldn't very well blurt out that there was NO way she could use the 7th day because we would be in the middle of the Carribbean Sea...so I just let her get the 7-day.)

UGH. I know this is a good thing. I know I will love it. I know we are lucky to take advantage of EE sneak preview. But, HOW DID I LET HIM TALK ME INTO THIS?? Just when planning was FINISHED and I could sit back and wait for the trip to come to me, here we go again.

Someone please tell me it will all be worth it! ([sigh]...even if it's in jubilation)

There's a whole thread on it: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?threadid=987234

You can bring stuff - even though the signs say not to. And Mark said you can ship it ahead of time so it's waiting for you there, but I don't know anything about this. :confused3

Oh, my verandah fears aren't that big a deal -- just my normal angst: (1) that my kids will jump/fall overboard; and (2) that our verandah will be next to a smoker's verandah -- my one big asthmatic trigger is cigarette smoke.

Has DCL changed their alcohol policy? In the past, they've always let you pack whatever you wanted in your luggage/a carry-on.

Don't worry about the verandah. No chance of the kids going overboard, unless you do something stupid like put them on your shoulders while you're rip roaring drunk, or if they climb up on the chairs and lean all the way over. Neither DS or DD had issues last year at 4 and almost 2, so your kids should be fine. The smoking thing I can't speak to; I'm not a smoker, but Mark enjoys a cigar occassionally - one reason we get a verandah. Hopefully you won't be next to someone who is always out there smoking.

From what I've seen on that thread, I think there are signs saying you can't bring alcohol, but everyone does and no one stops you. So we are planning to either ship some (unless it's crazy expensive) or pick some up in Cape Can. the day before. :drinking1

I haven't been drunk in about 10 years, so I think it's the latter I'm worried about! They are little monkeys who look like beautiful little girls. :scared:

Not nearly enough dancing bananas there....

Our docs got here today, 1/11/2006.

Two booklets for us, and no more of that rectangular box, just an envelope.

I like those luggage tags better, I always thought the others would come off. I wonder of the letter M after the cabin number os for the Magic?

What kind of dance is being performed below?

:cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:

Answer: the Document Dance!

Yes, we received our documents in the mail yesterday!

There were a few things different from our last DCL cruise:

(1) We only got one booklet for the whole family, instead of 4 (this is good; I hated filling out in quadruplicate);

(2) The luggage tags are big stickers now, separate from the booklet;

(3) No pamphlet on excursions (I guess they figure we can look online, although I kind of liked that pamphlet); and

(4) There is a letter saying there is a new dining rotation policy -- that there will be three dining times for each seating, spaced 15 minutes apart. This must have been in response to the crowds outside the restaurants?

Anyway, this is proof that we're going soon! Upgrade dust to all!

Congrats on the upgrade. We will be in the same room we were in 2 years ago. Last door on the right just before the officers quarters and the door to the bridge on deck 7 forward. I'd sleep on deck if i had to.

Bill, Do you have an updated list of all the different people that are going on the cruise that are on this thread? I'm losing track of everyones names compared with their Dis names. Thanks

Steve

Tigerb - Your mother is one fortunate woman. I will be 50 in July if you have any leftovers. HAHAHA! :rotfl2:

How are you receiving your docs? Mail, FedEx, etc? Do they just leave them if you are not at home?

Dee,

Here is the thread that discusses shipping alcohol. You can mail it to them and then it is "magically" awaiting you in your stateroom.

I also understand that you can get a corkscrew from your cabin steward, but you might plan to ship/bring one just in case not. Just don't pack it in your carry-on!! :)

By the way - I'm home today with DD who is now sick. DS last week, DD today...get it out of your systems kids!

But maybe I'll be home to get my documents!!! :goodvibes
