Feb.4,2006. Who else is sailing?

Ladies - is your formal dress floor length or cocktail length? I'm leaning toward cocktail length, only b/c I don't want to pack a floor length, and I would also still need to purchase!

And are your guys wearing a tux? :confused3

APL is "small" kids - according to our passporter. And that's what we had last year. So we may have a problem with Sunday's brunch, and would be willing to switch to the other one once we confirm. We would also have to get Flounder's ressies if DD can't go into the OC.

My guess is that your family and mine will have the same rotation because we have kids so close in age. Are you first seating, too?

I can't recall what our rotation was last time -- after Frances hit, we were so glad to set foot onboard, that I didn't pay attention!

I read somewhere that they may switch formal night if it falls on Superbowl Sunday.

I have a floor length gown, but I'm not sure if I will wear it. I ended up working all weekend, so I didn't get to go shopping, but hopefully will take Friday off (I'm in hearings and a mediation all week) so I can shop. If I don't find anything else, I'll wear the floor length.

I prefer cocktail length, though -- I'm starting to look too mother of the bride-ish in floor length gowns.

My dh "outgrew" ( :rotfl2: ) his tux, so he'll be in a dark suit. I kind of wish I could wear the suit and him the gown, though -- I wouldn't need to go shopping then!

Johnna - two years ago I wore a full length dress and my husband rented a tux. This year we are going to try and eat at Palo for formal night and dress more casually. It was just too expensive (tux rental) and too much extra luggage (long dress w/shoes). The only problem is that the kids really want to eat lobster. We might try to send them to dinner with their Grandpa if he is willing.

Marcy - are you an attorney? I'm in Professional Development at a DC Firm; promise, no shop talk!!

Ditto - I really like those pants with the overlay that kind of looks like a skirt, but can't decide if that's to MOB-ish too. So cocktail-length works for me too.

Now THAT would be a great picture!! :rotfl:

I'll be doing formal gown for formal night and Palo and a cocktail dress for the Captain's cocktail party. My husband has his own tuxedo we got on sale a few years ago and it has paid for itself several times over already! It is a pain making room in the luggage, but there are so few opportunities to get really dressed up (at least in our circle of life) when a bunch of other people are, as well, we make the effort.

We are early seating too. Would be nice to switch formal night if it is the Superbowl; although we have Palo ressies for dinner on Monday. Argh - this not knowing is so frustrating for us compulsive planners!!!! :confused3

We ate at Palo on formal night last cruise, and I was VERY sad to have missed the lobster.

Yes, I am, but I can be nice, especially when I'm on vacation. :teeth: We have a DC office as one of our main offices, so there may be shop talk, especially if you have opinions on some of my colleagues (I sure do)!

From the main board, here are the itmes for the character breakfast:

Early seating is at 8:15 & late seating is at 9:30 I THINK!

If this is right, the first seaters would be fine for a 10 AM brunch no matter what day, right? The character breakfast menu is nothing to write home about, so a cup of coffee (okay, fine, three) would hold me until a 10 AM Palo brunch.

Hey to all.
I came home from work today early cause I feel horrible. Better now than later, right?

Anyway, we are the early (6:00 p.m.) dinner time. So the brunch thing seems to work. Thanks for checking into that, Marcy.

As far as what we are wearing: No, my husband will not be wearing a tux. I have a hard enough time getting him to dress up due to having to do it at work. He is more the casual kind of guy. I have a few dresses to choose from. I am bringing my don't laugh - mother of the bride dress - to wear on formal night. I just don't get that many opportunities to wear it - plus I have lost the weight to get back in it. It is a three piece suit type set (a little below the knee length) that is lavendar and I have (no surprise) matching dyed shoes. My other mother of the bride dress is (thank goodness) a bit too big. (By the way - we have two married daughters, 26 and 22. They love Disney and would really love to come along. Maybe someday.) I have recently purchased a black dress that I may also bring along. I got it at a really good price.

I am loving writing back and forth with ya'll regarding our upcoming trip. It is hard to believe it is coming up so quickly.

Marcy - where do you live in Florida? I can't remember if it says on your info. We lived in West Palm Beach for 3 1/2 years.

And by the way - my name is Debi and my husband is Cal and we live in Charlotte, NC.

Good point - although per our input on the "coffee" thread, I won't be drinking the stuff at breakfast!! So it will mostly be an OC/Flounders issue for us I think. I'm sure it will all work out! :goodvibes

Debi - so sorry to hear you're sick. Mark is home with Ryan who is sick today too - PD :wizard: to feel better soon for everyone!!

Wow. All this discussion of shopping and dresses.

Guys - anyone out there who wants to talk about fixing cars, lifting weights or other manly pursuits? :rotfl:

Mark

Ok I orderd new luggage and am ready to start packing! My only problem is my daughter needs new summer clothes for the cruise because she has already grown out of her ones from last summer. I have been waiting for summer clothes to arrive in stores. I am stressing :scared1: over getting sick  right before the cruise and DD not getting into Oceaneer Club. Hopefully everthing will work out! Still on a waiting list for early dinner seating and a waiting list to upgrade our cabin.

I hear 'ya about stressing a bit.

I have someone who wants to buy the Cabana Massage on CC for my mom for her 50th (that's why we are cruising - mom's bday) - and there aren't any ressies left online. So, I am preparing to BEE LINE it to the Spa to make those ressies as soon as we get on board. I have been mentally practicing: "Skip the tour, book the massage. Skip the tour, book the massage."

Also, spa ressies question: I booked manicures for me and mom. I really wanted pedicures, but there were NO good times left. So, I booked the manicures...do you think when I am on ship that first day booking the cabana massages :worship: I can CHANGE our manicure appts. to pedicures without a penalty?? I sure hope...

I'll be willing to talk tae kwon do with any gender on this thread...

If you guys just scratch yourselves while you read the threads about dresses, you'll be okay.

I just looked at the coffee thread -- i didn't even realize that you and Mark posted right above me! :rotfl2: My dh and I (and dd2) got FIVE Starbucks gift cards under the Christmas tree this year! I just finished my afternoon Light Frapp . . .

My TA said that only 50% of reservations are available online -- they save the other half for the ship. You'll be fine.

I was just at Target, and they have spring/summer clothes out for the kids - and adults! Shocking, I know, but great for "winter cheaters" like us. Just got Katie the pink bathing suit with matching "grass skirt" and a new pair of sandals. And I picked up our over the door shoe holder for everything but shoes. You can also try old navy or other stores on line if your local stores don't have anything yet.

Don't stress over getting sick - the stress will weaken your immunity!! ;)

OK, not feeling much better, but a little.

Guys - sorry, but clothing and planning are very important to us.

As far as coffee goes, I have a friend that should just buy a Starbucks. I like some coffee. It has to be sugar free so the choices are very limited.

Repeat cruising - Since most of you seem to be repeat DCL cruisers - I have read that the "gift" is a bag? Have any of you heard any different? I hope so as I have enough of the towels.

I saw at our Target that their were swimsuits out already. They usually have a great selection. And of course, online shopping is great too.

Speaking of shopping, has anyone shopped enough in the ports to have a favorite?

Debi
