Feb 20, 2011 - Presidents' Week - Mexican Riviera

We'll make sure we have warm clothes. While I'd love 80 and sunny, 60 and no snow is going to feel like the tropics to us.:rotfl:

This is our crazy weather season. We can have 80 degrees and sunshine one day and the next day it is cold and windy. Who knows, we may leave LA in the rain and come back to warm weather.

My dh would definitely love an engineer's tour - I think he forgot it was engineer's week as well! sounds like it's going to be 'geek central" (I say that as a fellow geek ;)
Betsy

Combine the two and get Geek Week. Hey I'm all for it.
How do I sign up for a ship tour?

We don't have anything set up yet. dh is thinking once he's on board he'll try and sweet-talk someone. He's got the gift of gab so it wouldn't surprise me that he could get someone to agree to give a behind the scenes tour to a bunch of engineers for Engineer Week. Keep your fingers crossed and we'll see what happens.

One week from today we will be at Disneyland! :) We are getting our Disney fix this week, we also are going to Disney on Ice on Weds.

I am packing this weekend. I have the suitcases all open but nothing inside! I can't believe it's finally time to pack. I've been making packing lists for a year!

I read two of the newer trip reviews that give a much more "balanced" review and now I'm ready to get on the ship already! :cool1:

We'll be there on Saturday, too! This is our first Disneyland trip since we're East-Coasters. Too bad we won't have more time there, but we just couldn't do more days away from school/work. We fly in on Friday afternoon so we're counting on hitting the park early, and we're just doing DL and not California Adventure.

I am kind of bummed about the weather, but like you said, maybe it will keep the crowds down a bit!

I have been obsessively watching 10-day forecasts for LA, and the predictions for that weekend keep getting colder! It's supposed to be warmer in Atlanta when we leave than it will be in LA when we land! I'm just glad the chance of rain for Sunday has gone away, and I hope it doesn't come back. I guess no swimming on Sunday, but as long as there's no rain we'll still get the Sail Away party. :cool1:

No worries--we're packing layers so we can hang out on deck if we want, even if it's a bit chilly. Packing has begun in earnest today, and we're all SOOOO excited!

Has anyone else been following Stinkerbell's trip report? She posted a picture of people bundled up at the party and said that it was very windy - so windy that they cancelled the Mickey surprise at the end.

The thing is, the 10-day is often very wrong. I'm usually willing to trust them two or three days out, but beyong that it really depends on too many factors. If the wind changes even a tiny bit north or south, everything changes. Plus, in the sun it feels really warm and in the shade it feels much cooler.

Right now, it's 63 in Santa Monica (right near the water), but I only wore a long-sleeved t-shirt while I was walking in the sun. Bring layers and know that PV will be warm. Cabo could go either way as could LA.

EricaG....If I had to choose, I would pick D-land over CA Adventure. Are you staying at the Grand Californian? If you are, they have a viewing deck so you could watch the World of Color. Other than that, the only thing you are missing in my opinion at CA Adv is Toy Story Mania, but they have that at D-World.

I have 4 baskets of laundry sitting in my room to be emptied. I think I will go through them today and start making piles for everyone. It will be that kind of week where the kids wear the old not so "cool" clothes to school.

I surely don't like the weather report. As much as we need rain, I was hoping it would stop by Saturday. I want to be outside and enjoy the sailaway party. Guess we will take whatever we can get....I'm just excited that 1 week from today, we will be getting ready to board the ship!!!!

Working on packing here too!! We leave on Saturday morning and are staying in Long Beach that night. I have been printing door magnets to be laminated tomorrow- as long as I am feeling well enough- came down with a cold and laryngitis! I have to head out soon to Home Depot for some Lime Green Mickey Heads and the last of my FE gifts- those 10-15 year old boys are hard!!

XMom- I agree- we are all wearing the "not cool" clothes this week so I don't have to do a ton of laundry before we go!!

Good to hear--that's what we figured, too. We are pretty regular WDW visitors, so Bugs' Life stuff and Soarin' and Toy Story Mania are all things that we can ride there. Since we've only got 1 day, I've made a basic touring plan for us that just focuses on things we can't see at WDW. Since we have a 5 y.o., it's pretty heavy on Fantasyland rides; I guess it just depends on weather and lines how much we'll get done, but we're going in with the attitude of just being happy if we can get on some rides and soak up the atmosphere!

The weather channel 10 day weather report for sail away Sunday now says 62 degrees, sunny and 0% chance of rain!! Woot! :cool1:

I have been reading her TR in small doses -- like a box of Godiva chocolates that I am making last--- it is so good and her pics are terrific! Every time I've done a DCL cruise, I've told myself I'd do a TR and never have. The really good ones (like Stinkerbell's) take a lot of time and planning.

As far as the sailing weather goes...windy is fine, rain is NOT! Hear that Mother Nature???

Took all of our cruise magnet stuff to Kinko's today to be laminated. I thought the customer service person was going to faint! When I bought 5 cans of spray-on sunscreen at Kroger's tonight (FYI-- they have a bunch on clearance right now. Premium stuff like Aveno and Neutrogena), the cashier asked me where I was going and when I told her, she offered to carry my luggage, babysit the kids, whatever--lol!

Ack, I had brilliant plans of packing this weekend but none of that occurred. Worst part is that I'm in Riverside for work this whole week and won't be home until Thursday evening. I long ago blackmailed my bosses into letting me work 3 days a week (i.e. everyone else was retiring while I was out on maternity leave. They were scared to death after the second kid that I'd quit. LOL) So, long story short, it's unusual for me to work four days in a week much less be out of the town. The stress of packing for a work trip, making sure dh and the babysitter have a solid list of all the activities and where the kids need to be and when, getting off e-mails to various and sundry individuals about meetings that need to take place once I'm back in town (March!), and a back that decided to give out on me at the most inopportune time, mean I didn't get any packing done for our cruise trip. Friday is going to be fun. I foresee piles of laundry and a very stressed out Mom. Oh well, we aren't leaving until about noon on Saturday so theoretically that leaves plenty of time for laundry, packing, etc.

I was very productive today. I packed for all of us (except the toiletries and electronics) and I wrapped all my FE gifts and put tags on all of them. I have to tell you though, I about had a nervous breakdown this morning. I brought in all my bags/boxes of FE stuff. My mom and I made part of the adult gifts several weeks ago. I could NOT find them. I mean, I ended up spending 2 hours cleaning the garage looking for them. I came in the house in tears and hubby started helping me look for where on earth I stashed them. I decided to sit and put together the stuff for the kids and in the box of their stuff, there was the bag I had been searching for. I seriously broke down in tears.

Now the issue, they don't all fit in the suitcase. Which means, bringing yet another suitcase to hold all the stuff. I know I'm over packing, but I really don't care. My first cruise with the kiddos and our first 7 day cruise, I really want us to have everything we WANT, whether we need it or not!

Talie - I hope you have a good business trip and I will be thinking happy thoughts for your packing adventures on Friday!

I live in Connecticut at the moment.

Me, too! I'm in Trumbull... where are you?

Erica G,
Don't stress! Some of our best Disney days have been when it was raining. .

I agree-- No lines... no crowds! One time we went on the safari in Animal Kingdom in the pouring rain... it was amazing-- I saw more animals that time than all the other times combined!

I was just looking at the Disney shore excursions and saw that there is a Cabo Beach Resort Getaway listed. I think .

We are doing this on the 1st Cabo day-- we were doing the all inclusive beach getaway in Mazatlan. I think there are 2 Cabo beach excursions offered through Disney's Port Adventures-- The one I chose is the $75 per person one-- I think this is at an all inclusive resort as well. The Mazatlan one that I had booked was $119 per person!

We are leaving on a 6am flight on Thursday morning for Disneyland! I am SOOOOO excited!!!!! :yay::yay::yay:

Had a similar thing happen and the bag I was looking for was in plain sight.

Our bags are just about all packed and I printed boarding passes this morning - we leave tomorrow AM. We're supposed to get 50 mph winds here today. It's very windy now. Glad we're not traveling today. Travel weather looks ok for the rest of the week - no blizzards. I hope everyone's travels are uneventful. Wish the weather in California was going to be a little better for a vacation this week - but I'll take a day of vacation at 60 degrees any day over driving through a blizzard to work. We'll have a great time this week and on the cruise.

Me, too! I'm in Trumbull... where are you?

We live just down the street in Milford. Boy it's a small world isn't it. Sounds like you guys are really making an adventure out of the cruise. Disneyland before hand. Sound great.

I work at Sikorsky and live in the Devon area (just across the bridge on the post road) of Milford, down near Walnut Beach, between there and the Audubon center.
I have a number of co-workers that live in the Trumbull area.

Have a safe trip Elaine! And everyone else who is leaving soon! See you on Sunday at 3pm. Going to make my lime green Mickeys now and organize my FE gifts to make sure I didn't miss anyone and then get ready to go through dd's clothes for the trip!

Kathryn

Yes, I've been patiently waiting for the next update. Really great report. :surfweb:

Crossing my fingers that our trip has better weather, but whatever happens, happens. Plan on having fun no matter what
