Feb.13th(lucky for some) 2010 Eastern Valentines Cruise - The Love Boat Sails Again !

OK, we STILL don't have our cabin number assigned. We have a cat 9 gty, so I guess we'll just get shoved anywhere they can put us, since we didn't even book until January. We definitely won't get an upgrade, and aren't expecting one.

We also got waitlisted for early dining, and I hope that we're able to get that changed. With a 6 yr old who is used to eating at 6pm, there is no way she'll be able to wait that late for dinner. Keeping my fingers crossed.

By the way, Brooke left today on the Magic for the Western Cruise! I can't believe she's going two months in a row. Her DH is not happy about it because he is stuck staying home both times.

Lucky Brooke! We have late seating, if we had early I'd switch with you... sorry!

Uggghhhh... Okay you folks up North are going to think this is totally CRAZY!

I'm in Georgia. We do not know how to handle ice, cold, snow, etc. The kids were out of school on Friday for Snow/Ice (mostly ice) which was totally understandable. The roads were bad, and we have no equipment to fix that. HOWEVER - WE ARE OUT OF SCHOOL AGAIN TOMORROW (MONDAY). They seriously couldn't get some road crews, people doing community service, or DOT to come and put some kind of de-ice mixture on the roads over the weekend?

I'm a high school teacher. This *may* mean that instead of our week off in February (the week of the cruise), we may only have 3 days. Translate that to mean - I will be docked for 2 days of pay because I won't be there! I can't take personal days or sick days - only unpaid days. I could go on and on about how they did not use our calendered make-up days for the floods but instead used days that were not designated without penalizing anyone. Of course, this could also mean that these days will be considered furlough days once the legislature officially decides that teachers will take additional days this semester and I will lose pay for them anyway. I would honestly rather go that route, but most teachers would not and I understand.

Yes - I knew when we booked that this was a risk. I knew that we might have inclement weather and this week would be used to make up days. It just really stinks that we haven't had that happen in at least 5 years and the year I choose to actually plan something - we get iced in.

Okay - vent over. Back to happy cruise planning. I'll see what they tell us when I get back on Tuesday.

Stay warm everyone!

Well heck that is just not fair!!! To make it up to you I promise to buy you a drink or TEN to help make up for the money lost! OH.....I will buy you all the soda you can drink too :rotfl2:

Look on the bright side while you are sunbathing in the Caribbean the school board will be FROZEN in the place unable to make any real decisions until you return refreshed and renewed! :yay:

Not much consolation I know, but we have also got the big freeze here in Britian.:cold:

Our weather is blasting us from Siberia .....coldest is been for 40 years !!!

I was looking forward to the warmth of Florida in three weeks...but its looking pretty chilly there too, at the moment. :rolleyes1

The exact same thing happened to me last year! Even here in MA where they "build in" 5 snow days to the school calendar. We had an epic ice storm on December 11th and never returned to school until JANUARY 4th!!!! Of course the roads were unpassable, electricity was out for weeks in some cases, schools were used as shelters, etc. etc . They took away our February vacation week and, we lost so many days that they of course had to also extend the school year. We were in school until June 29th!

But we were going to WDW and had booked many months in advance. They ended up letting people go on their previously booked vacations (they really had to , I guess) but not before we were pressured into changing if possible. Ive been in the same district for 28 years, never abuse sick time, personal time, so I just sort of dug my heels in..... I WAS going! To make matters worse, my DD goes to school in another community and they were not taking the vacation away there, so if we didn't go, she would have been sitting home thinking "I'm supposed to be in Disney World this week!" In the end I had to jump through a lot of hoops and we did go - the ONLY one in my school I might add, so you can guess that my decision wasn't very popular with *some* people (namely.... administration). But, my DH is a Superintendent of Schools in another district in the area, and he was adamant that we were going. In his district he let people use personal days (we get 3 a year) if they had a vacation booked.... he felt it wasn't anyone's fault but Mother Nature and the teachers shouldn't be penalized. So your cruise may ultimately cost you more, like my vacation did last year, but what else can you do???:confused3

Oh well... at least I can commisserate with you :)

Joy, I can't believe you are closed again today!!! In Peachtree City we were closed on Friday (and we did have some bad ice), but definitely not today!

I also wondered if they would make the kids go to school one of those days from Winter Break to make up for the snow day on Friday. At this point I don't care, because I've booked the cruise and booked it planning on her being out of school for the week.

Don't worry, we'll have so much fun that you won't care how much it's costing you...

Any one book a GTY and still NOT have their cabin assignment? :confused3 The waiting is KILLING ME! :rolleyes1

Barbara, yes, we booked Cat 9 gty and still do not have our cabin assignment. I think this cruise is full, and they are still juggling things around and trying to get people to purchase upgrades.

We didn't book the cruise until the beginning of Jan, so I thought that might be why we haven't received our assignment yet.

Has anyone with young kids ever done the late dining? We have only done early dining, but this time it was full because we booked so late.

I've been thinking about it and wondering if the late dining might actually work out better. This would give us time to take a nap in the late afternoon (my 6 yr old won't want to nap but she will if I take one with her, and I want a daily nap!) and then grab a snack and go to the show, and then off to dinner. That way I could take her to Oceaneer's club after dinner for a couple hours so that I can go to Rockin' Bar D for the adults only stuff that is from 10-11pm.

Does anyone else do the Rockin' Bar D at 10pm each night?

We actually prefer late dining. We don't feel as rushed to come in from excursions and get our showers. Like you said, you can grab a snack if your hungry and have some time to relax. I read where there are kids club people waiting to take kids back to the Oceaner's Club/Lab when they are finished with dinner in the late seating, which helps if they are getting antsy and ready to leave but you want to enjoy the rest of your dinner.

For us, late seating is a good choice. But we know its not for everyone.

Joy hope everything works out with school and days off. It would be nice not to have to worry about it.

And yes Florida has been COLD. Not just "cold for Florida" but cold. We had sleet Sat morning just north of Tampa. Thankfully it will be warming up by mid-week. So hopefully the average temps will come back and vacation will be wonderful. Plus it will make packing much better if we don't have to worry about sweatshirts!

We are on the waitlist for early dinner too. It is my husband that prefers it. Last time we got the switch. I was told if you want to early and don't get it, check with the dining reservations when you board and put in the request.

I booked ours beginning of Jan too! I hate waiting....I feel like a stalker always checking the DCL website and our account and or calling! This is the latest I have ever received my assignment...I will need therapy by the time they give it to me

Thanks!:goodvibes

Hi there

Was wondering if it is too late to be included on the Fe exchange??? It would be me, hubby and 2 boys, (almost 12yrs and 10). What are the exact rules and all as well?? Sorry for being so late on this.....still trying to decide if we should do the FE thing. Haven't done it on the last 2 Disney cruises we were on. Thanks!

Hi hockeymom!
That would be awesome if we could get our boys together! It would be great for them to have some pals to hang out with. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hi! Welcome and no, it's not too late for Fish Extender at all... we decided that we would close it on January 31st to allow everyone time to purchase/make and pack their gifts. Go back to page 21, post # 301 on this thread and you'll see an explanation of what the FE entails. Your boys will really love it! If you are interested, e-mail Joy @ joy.rinehart@gmail.com (you can't send her a Private Message because you don't have 20 posts on this board yet .) Joy updates the list every weekend and then e-mails it out to all the participants. We currently have about 16 or 17 families participating, but more are joining every day!

Karen - who is also from "somewhere very cold" !:)
