Fear the Walking Dead - anyone?

Wow, epic-ally stupid episode. So badly written and directed. I complained to my DDs-17 (who I watch this and TWD with) and they were like 'shush, we LOVE this show and so do all the kids at school'. I was shocked. I told my DDs that I didn't get it because everyone on the forums (I am on 2 about this show) seem to think this show sucks. They said young folks like it because of all the young cast members on the show. Their fave being Alecia. So strange. Anyway, tonight sucked big time. I can't really stand to watch anymore.

I don't think it sucks but last night's episode was pretty weak. Liking the mother less and less each time she is on the screen.

None of it was realistic. Or made sense. The stuff with Chris was odd. Then Maddison taking the zombie out by herself and single handedly beating 3 other guys while Travis helped but had his hands tied behind him. The zombie just casually bites Connor. Really???? Dumb. And don't even know what's going on with Alecia. Was she contemplating staying with a strange boy over her family? Alex telling Travis it was his fault. Um, why not Strand or Maddison or anyone else...why be mad at Travis only? And their long convo about how things are now...not sure they should be 'there' yet. Why did a dry docked boat have power to have lights, music (and what's with that music?) and a TV going...dry docked boat in ZA? I do agree...I am liking Maddison less and less every episode too. She is no Carol or Michonne or Maggie...no way! What's with her 'they are kids' bit...they are older teens in the ZA. She can't helicopter like it's a normal regular day, she has to let them buck up (like Rick with Carl). They need every able body to be kicking butt.

I didn't like the whole Alex being mad a Travis. He totally had nothing to do with her being cut from the yacht. That was ALL Strand. She was so mad and it made no sense to me. Travis was the one who came up with the compromise of tying them up and towing them when STRAND refused to let them on the boat. STRAND was the one who cut the rope, and MADISON watched and did nothing. Why on earth she had it out for Travis was lost on me. Just because she "saw in his eyes" that he knew what would happen? Stupid. She said something like, "I told them to bring you to me." I just could not get past it!! As you can see!

One more dumb thing...why they let Chris keep watch over the bad guy...the one they needed alive to exchange for Alecia and Travis?

I also don't get why Alecia was hiding in the cabinet and then why Maddison wasn't completely hysterical when only Travis was brought to her. The whole bit with Alecia really didn't make sense to me though. None of it flows like a decent story...it's all disjointed and contrived...just not feeling it.

My brother (32 yo), my dh (37 yo), and myself (35 yo) all enjoy it too. My brother told me he likes it better than TWD. In real life, I have heard only good things about it. But online it is all negative. Pretty interesting to me.

I was irritated over the whole Travis/Alex scene a lot last night though myself.

IMO, Alex was mad at Travis because I believe it was his idea to tow them in the raft. Madison wanted them on-board, Strand never wanted them at all, and Travis thought keeping them on the raft and towing them would be a happy medium. Of course that was foiled when Strand cut the tow rope. But I think Alex blames Travis for not taking them on-board and helping her burn victim friend, who ultimately died because he had no care.

I agree the Alecia situation is a head scratcher. I don't understand why she trusted Jack in the first place - after some CB radio conversations? And she still trusted him when she realized he was part of a bad group? And then she paused for a moment to consider staying with him after he admitted earlier that he knew the other guy was staying behind to kill her family on the boat? Weird.

the zombie just casually bites Connor.

I didn't really have a problem with this because of course Connor wasn't expecting his brother to be a zombie. Plus, at this point, it's still relatively early in the ZA and I don't think everyone has the instinct yet to kill a zombie in the head immediately. They all still seem to be operating under the assumption that there are more alive than dead, people are still willing to help each other, and that there must be safe places still that they need to get to. Our group thinks that's Mexico for some reason.

I totally get that, but it still makes zero sense to me. Travis came up with idea to tow them in order to help them. Her anger should be at Strand. Travis was trying to please everyone and I thought Alex would be thanking him for coming up with the idea of towing them, otherwise they would have been left to die. At lease Travis's idea gave her a fighting chance.

At the end of last week (when Nick and Louis shot the guys), I had hoped things were looking up on the show. This week we were back to the stupid storyline again ;) Nick remains the only character that I really like. Madison continues to make me dislike her more and more each episode. The whole "they are just kids" thing bothered me. Then the scene on the dock with them beating up on Travis and she doesn't pull out the gun that is in her waistband (hello - isn't that why you brought the gun).

Yeah - she didn't seem too bothered by the fact that her daughter wasn't there either. And the scene with Alex and Travis didn't make sense (for all the reasons people have already mentioned). First she hates him but a few minutes later they are sitting on the floor talking about everything that happened? I was hoping they would incorporate Alex's character into the show but hopefully they come up with something better than this. I don't think we have seen the end of the rest of that group (even though the leader is dead now).

DH has pretty much given up on this show but I'm going to stick it out through the end of the season. I still really want to like it and I'm invested enough to want to see what happens, so I'm not giving up yet.

I understand, I think it just depends how you look at it. I agree that she should be angry at Strand too, but perhaps she thinks if Travis would have just let them on-board then Strand would never have had an opportunity to cut the tow rope and leave them stranded. Perhaps she thinks Travis should have tried to convince Strand from the start that they weren't a threat, because it was clear Travis was on the fence about them. I do think that it could have all been portrayed differently if they were setting up something larger between Travis and her. I think now that Connor is dead, Alex will have a bigger role and we'll see her again as a nemesis.

I was a little bummed that the Connor thing was wrapped up pretty quickly, with Travis and Alecia back with the group now. Just like the family in the house with the kids, the potential storyline was over relatively quickly. Granted, we will likely see Alex and Jack again but the hostage/prisoner situation didn't last too long.

I told my DH last night when we finally got around to watching the last episode that they need to kill off a lot of this cast to make it watchable again and I am a BIG fan of TWD (comics and show). They can keep Nick, Strand, Daniel and kill the rest of them. That was our discussion during the episode -- who to feed to the zombies (or sharks in the ocean) and who to keep to make it to the next season.

I understand why they went with the boat storyline after a lot of fans speculated that being on the water during the ZA would be the best place to be, but how they are handling it is ridiculous most of the time. Having issues getting INTO Mexico???? Really? That's the problem? Like Mexico is any better than the rest of the world (or at least North America?) Nick swam there just fine -- and without clothes, at night, with helicopters over him and into what should have been a filled zombie tent city when there was only 1 zombie in it (I'll leave that rant to another time...). Wrapping up the Conner situation after the set up that they did over a few episodes? That was very disappointing.

Who is the villain in the show anymore? The zombies? -- nope, just spread zombie blood all over you and walk among them. Conner? -- nope, he's a presumed zombie/shark bait now. Alex? -- she was cool on the plane and the only one who seemed to know what was going on, but she blamed Travis for her misfortune?...nope. She might become a good villain (with her misdirected anger), but the way this show is going it won't be until season 5 or something. Abigail? -- what would the point of that be after Strand is trying so hard to get to Baja to be with him (or just to be protected by him).

There's one episode left of this very short season and we still have to believe that it is hard to get to the Mexican coast in a boat. Really? Mexico can all of a sudden protect every bit of beach that it has. Sigh....

And yet, I will still watch. Because I'm not a quitter.

(edited because I remembered the correct name of the character)

I questioned that also, several times over

Actually there are two episodes left, and that is the mid-season finale, it will be back, to finish it's second season leading up the TWD premiere.

15 episodes this season? Ok, I'll still give it a try. If I could make it through ZNation, and grow to love that quirky zombie show, then I'm not going to be a quitter on this one. At least they got Nick out of old man's clothes so that's something.

That was one of my favorite parts this week, that he was still wearing normal clothes!!

Do you think they're trying to make the mom the "Rick" of the show? If so, they missed the boat on that one.

Also, what was that guy talking to Strand about. They were speaking in Spanish with captions but I was distracted and got something along the lines of need 2 or more than 2 people when they arrived at their destination? Kind of sounded like Strand took these people as a trade for something when the arrive. Does anyone remember?

They were saying they arranged for 2 people to get passage to Mexico, and that they had enough money to pay for those two people. The other guy said he didn't bring money for 7 other people to get safe passage.

Last night's show just confused me. Especially why did Celia poison all the parishioners???? Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I think they knew she was keeping walkers on her property and they were preparing to go there to kill them.

Overall, I thought last night't episode was the best they have done so far.

Yes, other poster is correct. The parishioners were going to her estate to kill all the walkers she has. That is why Thomas went there, to try and stop them. He told them she would kill them before they got to the gate.
She is all kinds of looney!
The death of Thomas made me sad. And Nick put that darn jacket back on, but at least he put on some jeans that fit.
Last night was pretty interesting, but I have to say if Chris bites it next week, I will not be at all sad.
