Fear the Walking Dead - anyone?

I had heard that the demise of civilization happens within 4 weeks and that might be why it seems to be moving very fast. It could've been 4 weeks between the time of the outbreak and when Rick woke up in the hospital and if that is the case, then this show is moving quickly to hold true to that.

I like it and I like that I know more than they do. I have to think that they are just trying to get to the next day and not really understanding what is happening so a bit of denial going on. That seems fair to me. I will say I don't remember spray paint on any of the houses in any of the places TWD characters have stayed in. Has there been?

I don't recall spray paint either, but maybe it's just in this area they did that. I was wanting to see if he was painting the word "clear" but they didn't show it.

They already greenlit season 2, before they even aired season 1, so they have 15 more episodes after this season to hook us all in :-)

Oh wow I didn't realize that. Well hopefully it just continues to improve as the story unfolds.

Think how fast everything goes to poop when a natural disaster strikes. Remember Hurricane Katrina. You lose power in a major city for more than a couple hours, add zombies into the mix, it will go to crap pretty dang quick.

Someone above said they wanted to know why the power grid failed. Could be a herd went through and took out towers. People stayed home to take care of "sick" family. Or came to work "sick" and ate everyone else so no one to run it. Any number of things could have happened, all logical, in that world.

I don't know...I like it so far. I am hooked. I like to see the breakdown of society, although I agree, that its' moving a little fast. Like, okay...if you live in a high crime area, like Oakland, Ca...you have a few people acting weird...no one is going to think "zombies". LOL. So, why was the hospital on fire? However, I liked it up until the military broke in. WTH? OKay, whatever. I wished they had kept them at home for a few more episodes...I liked the slow build up, but I still like the show.

It's going to be hard going back to TWD where everything is already gone....

I can kinda see why the hospital would fall into chaos so quick. They would have more dead people than anywhere

I wonder if it's because this is a more urban area and they need an obvious way to show a house has been checked. Like during Katrina. Ricks town is small. I don't think we have seen much of Atlanta except high rises in the downtown area.

That would make sense.

Feel a bit like I'm repeating everyone else at this point, but I'm not so sure about this spin-off. The writing seems weak, there are giant plot-holes, it just doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm having a hard time sitting through it without getting annoyed.
DD18 says I only feel that way because I "know about zombies" and these characters do not. But I really don't think so.

I don't care what has set off a breakdown in society, but if I already had to kill a friend/coworker, there is NO way I'm leaving my back door sitting wide open with another dangerous friend/neighbor wandering around outside. Not a chance. I'd probably be in debate whether to lock the door or leave it unlocked for a quick return, but I certainly wouldn't leave it sitting wide open with a barking dog there to draw attention.

And like everyone else, WHY would you go back through the garden maze, into the backyard with the known danger, to get to your loved one... rather than opening a window and yelling out a warning or running out the front door to meet them in the street? That was completely illogical. I can't see anyone doing that in real life. It's just illogical.

Did anyone other than me notice that mom gave the loaded weapon to her detoxing son to hold rather than letting the daughter carry it or carrying it herself?? That didn't make sense to me either. I get it, he's the "guy," but seriously, he's not in good shape right now and your trusting him to decide where to point a gun??

And WHY do all of these "survival" type movies have the adult who's more scared of guns than the threat outside?

What I do understand at this point is conflicting feelings about killing the "sick." At this point, the main characters don't know if these friends/neighbors may be curable so it would be very hard to "kill" them. That is one part of the story line I expected to see and I'm glad they've touched on it. I'll be interested to see if they get into this a bit more with a member of their own group...

My DH has the answer to this one. The house they went to for the gun is BEHIND their house. Front door of neighbors is on another street. At the end of the episode, when they are leaving, she gets to the intersection, looks down THAT street and sees Peter getting home. They had to go through the ridiculous maze to get back to their house.

She probably was thinking he knew what they were up against and the hysterical daughter doesn't. Of course, it's her fault the daughter doesn't know what's going on, but I digress.

It's reality. There is a bunch of people who hate guns. If they didn't include some, it would be strange.

AHHH, missed that. I'll have to go back and re-watch. It seemed so odd to make that call. Of course, I stand by my first thought which was "Open the window and Yell to him."
That was very observant of your husband. :magnify: I thought she had just backed out of the drive and saw her neighbor arriving on the same street.

True enough about that. It's not like this girl is 10. I just don't understand why they all kept hiding stuff from her.
But, I was just waiting for bumbling, stumbling detoxing son to drop the gun and shoot someone
. :headache:

I know that, but I guess I've always felt like people might change their opinion under such extreme circumstances. I'm not a fan of guns, but I've always lived in rural areas where guns are commonplace, so I guess I'm more comfortable with them than I thought. I'm pretty sure I'd get over my discomfort pretty fast with an impending apocalypse outside. :scared:

I am enjoying the show so far. My Hubby and I also watch The Walking Dead. My DD14 has just started with the new show with us. I am not put off by the pace. I feel the snowball effect happening... starting off slow, and then gaining more and more momentum... just like I imagine that is how the breakdown of the society would happen.

I agree like any horror type show, it has its face palm moments... don't go in the cellar/attic by yourself in the creepy house... and FTWD is no different in that sense, with the doors being left open... running around a maze... or my personal moment of WTH was when Madison and Travis decided the junkie building was the place to go hang out and explore :rotfl::rotfl:

Looking forward to next week. My question so far is are these military part of a larger operation or just a rogue pocket that has found a place to take up a stand. If they are not rouge yet, I suspect they will be very soon. They remind me of the hospital with Dawn/Beth in the Walking Dead.

My problem is that they don't know about zombies (hard to swallow that since zombies have been a literary device and myth for thousands of years but I digress)...and they think people are sick. So WHY are they touching them or going near these clearly sick people?? The Dad walked up to his clearly "sick" neighbor who was EATING A DOG IN HIS LIVINGROOM and tries to reason with him, rather than grabbing his family and running away from the infected individual. They don't know how it spreads. Why would they risk ANY contact???

I don't know that they would realize yet there is an impending apocalypse. This has all taken place over, maybe 2 or 3 days so far? I think if you are anti guns, it will probably take a bit longer than that, before you come around to the face that they are now a necessity.

I think they are part of the larger operation. And I don't think they are going to be their friends LOL.

I see Tobias as someone who will pop back up and unexpectedly save them from a no way out cliffhanger.
I hope so! I really like him and I think we haven't seen the last of him yet. I was hoping they would stop by his place on the way out of town, but it doesn't look like that will be happening. Or at least not now with the "Calvary" showing up.

The guy wouldn't have been eating the dog in the first place, if they had just shut the stupid door :-)

And yes, I will stick with it, and I think with the military now, things will get even more interesting, but OMG why why why hasn't Nick put on his own clothes????
I know, the clothes thing is driving me crazy. You would think he would want to get out of them, they certainly don't fit him well. They just hang on him and coupled with the fact that his hair is starting to compete with Daryl's in the greasy category, some fresh clothes that fit would make him look better. Hope his mom makes him change on the next episode.
I think it's just so hard for all of them to mentally process what they are seeing. I mean, really. In a world with no TWD, Zombieland etc...what would YOU think? At the riot by the barber shop, I totally get that 99% of the people didn't see the cop-eat-cop going down. They were too busy doing their thing. And if you did see it, you'd think he was crazy, or you didn't see what you think you saw. Just no way to rationally process it until it will become too overwhelmingly obvious as it goes on.
I agree, with no prior knowledge of zombies, this is a complete learning experience for them. They have no clue what is happening. They are confused and scared. Some are coming around quickly, like the mother, her son and Ruben. The others, hopefully they will catch on quick or they aren't going to last long.

DH and are are still liking it. It seems to be picking up more each episode.

Did anyone watch this evening?

I watched but I'm not sure how I feel about the show. I loved The Walking Dead from the first episode. This? Not so much even after this 3rd episode. I won't say anymore until everyone has had a chance to watch it.

:bored:

I watched. I still don't know about this show. The writing is so bad. BUt at least the end of this episode got interesting. So I'll watch one more episode to see if maybe this show will turn around for me.

I will say more in the morning with a real keyboard, but this was the 4th episode:-)
