Fear the Walking Dead - anyone?

I will say more in the morning with a real keyboard, but this was the 4th episode:-)

Oops, I wonder if I missed an episode or if I miscounted? I'll have to look at the website and see. Thanks. :)

ETA: I miscounted. :rolleyes1

I thought tonight's episode was good and it's starting to pick up the pace a bit. I'll add my thoughts tomorrow just in case not everyone has watched.

Night all!

I didn't enjoy last nights episode at all. They really didn't show any Walkers. And it's a little hard to believe that the entire city is gone or dead already. Why? And why are they on lockdown and not the city...it's just a bit of a weird progression for me.

I think the kid, Nick, is such a loser. Do you think he was upset and crying because his Mom hit him? What did you think of that? I was actually glad the Mom reacted like that because it's true...you're in crisis mode and he's getting high.

I liked last night, I thought it was very interesting to see how the military is dealing with it. And the lies they are telling.
I was glad she hit him too, my husband actually yelled "smack that kid" about 10 seconds before she did. All the stuff he's put her through, he kind of deserved it. I think he cried because it finally hit him, at least somewhat, how hard this is on his mom. I was yelling when they took him away though, I can't believe they just did that! We all know when they go away, they have no intention of ever bringing them back.
Travis annoyed the heck out of me last night, for the first time.

Travis annoyed me too last night. IT's like grow a pair. Your wife is tougher than you. And WHY is Nick still wearing the dead mans clothes???

Why was Nick lying under the sick man's bed? Was he taking his medicine to get high?

yes, he was stealing his morphine drip, that's why he was so calm and didn't need his moms meds. I too could NOT believe he put those clothes back on. My husband did suggest that Nick was not at home for awhile, so it's possible he doesn't have clothes there? But I would think even something of Travis would be better than those awful things. And comb your hair!

We were talking about Nick still wearing the same clothes last night too and I wonder if he didn't live there anymore also. And Travis - OMG... we were yelling at him when he was talking to the soldier and told him about the person he suspected was in the building (the one shining the light). I was yelling at the TV "Good Job Travis, why would you tell him??? You are going to get that person killed!" And we saw how that turned out.

But I actually liked this episode better than last weeks. I see Travis and Madison both having their eyes opened to what is going on and that the soldiers are not there to help them.

I'm enjoying the show. It's interesting to see how things developed and how the government tried to handle everything. We know that they eventually failed but if you had never seen TWD, and this was happening to you, would you find what they are doing to keep the survivors isolated and safe to be too much or not enough? I am usually one to balk at any restrictions to our freedom so would be firmly in the "let me out" camp and would probably be walker food by now.

I love the original TWD but I think people need to get over expecting there to be the same type of walker fighting/action every week. If the cast was kicking zombie butt right now that would be pretty unbelievable at this point and they can't keep putting them in jeopardy and having them come out on top. They don't have the skills or weapons yet and the walkers are still strong and harder to kill - the survivors would be lunch pretty quickly and the show would be over.

I know I'm in the minority but I like Madison, hopefully some of you who didn't like her in the first few episodes are coming around.

A few things that caught my attention ***Spoiler alert if you haven't watched yet*****

When Madison was laying under that car as the troop of soldiers walked by, I had a flashback to when the TWD gang was caught on that road and hid under the cars while the herd of walkers went past. Very thought provoking that in this case it was the military that was the threat...

Was Nick under the bed when they came and took the sick neighbor and his wife away? Does he know already that something's not right with the "hospital"? I think they are removing anyone who they think may die so they can ensure that there is no threat inside the fence.

A few things on Nick:

He didn't live at his Mom's house, hence the reason for him still being in the older gentleman's clothes that he stole at the hospital. Yes while I'm sure he could borrow some of Travis' clothes, we've got to remember that Nick is a hardcore drug addict, and now he's a hardcore drug addict going through withdrawals. Drug addicts don't care what they look like (his unkempt hair) nor do they really care about what they are wearing. To me the way he is acting and what he is wearing is pretty much spot on.

I agree with @sharona, right now this show is not TWD, and shouldn't be compared to it. We're just not there yet, and it's going to be a while before we do get there. It's difficult to separate the two shows, but I have found that now that I've done that - I've been able to enjoy FTWD more. Don't get me wrong, I still yell at my TV about giving the "Walkers" one quick kill shot/hit/stab to the brain...LOL!

@sharona no, Nick was not under the bed when they took the older neighbor away. I don't know if Nick knows what's up with the hospital. However I do agree with your assessment that they are removing those that are at risk of death to ensure safety (and at this point is it really safety the military is after? The military is behaving quite shady, IMO.) inside the safe zone. The reason why I question the military's motive at this point is when Madison got outside the safe zone, she came across a few people that had been killed who were not sick. So why are they killing innocent people and not taking them to the 12 safe zones? SPOILER COMING:

I mean we know they killed whomever it was in the house using morse code in the window at the end of the episode. So I think our "wimpy dad of the year" Travis is going to start to come around (I hope. Lol!) because he saw this.

Anyway, for me the show is getting better. And just think, 10/11 is almost here!!!!

I agree - I think how they handled Nick and his addiction was very realistic. My family was upset that he would be doing that during this situation but I had to remind them that he is simply unable to control himself. Especially in times of stress, the addiction takes over.

I was surprised that I liked this episode better than last weeks and there were no zombie attacks in it at all, LOL. But I was glad to see that the main characters are getting wise to what is happening (the non-zombie shot in the head, the person that was flashing the lights, etc) and I feel like the story is going in a better direction now. Although my DD was upset that Madison went outside without a means of protection, LOL. She should have grabbed the gun on the ground. And my DS was upset that Travis did not believe his son (DS was saying "Oh, not that old stereotype" LOL). But overall, I have a renewed interest in where this is going to go next. Can't wait for next week :)

One other thing....did anyone think that the letter that Alicia was reading was her letter to her boyfriend? It wasn't! It was Susan's (the neighbor that turned and was stuck in the backyard). It was her suicide note to her Husband. She overdosed on the pills that were on the table that they've shown in two different episodes. They wanted us to think that Nick broke into the stash.

Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky writers!

I agree! I think the show does have really good potential and it does improve each week. I think the writers are just taking a much different approach with FTWD, as they should. I don't think the intent was to get viewers hooked from the jump, or even attached to the characters right away (I'm looking at you Daryl Dixon). Plus, there is no comic book fan base with FTWD - which I kind of like because they can really do a lot of things with FTWD.

I am So glad Travis is waking up. Many times I wanted to smack him! Not believing his kid, poo-pooing Madison about the video, telling the military guy about the neighbor with the car leaving (that guy is shot in the head in a ditch, IMO) etc...

I yelled at Madison to take the gun too! Guess she's not there yet.

I figured Nick had to have found a stash when he didn't take the pill Madison was offering. Jerk.

Is the military supposed to be like National Guard? I agree they are shady. Haven't decided if they are rogue or what. Even had a passing thought they weren't real military, just posers, but it's probably too soon for that kind of thing. And I think they are in there because it was a fairly unaffected area and easy to fence off.

Do you think there is even a real hospital they are taking people to? In the ad for next week it showed Travis ex diagnosing a Walker, but I just don't know about that lady Dr. I wonder if Travis ex will wake up and spring Nick and get back to the rest of them.

Does anyone actually KNOW Morse code? I know I don't!

I'm actually enjoying the show. It's more unsettling to me than TWD for some reason. We really only got to see Rick experience the shock of the world "after"... now we're seeing everyone and what the transition would be like. I find myself completely engrossed. I don't care much for the characters (any of them) but I find them realistic.

And the walkers (when we see them) are so much "fresher" that I find them even more terrifying. You can't just squish their heads like an overripe cantaloupe. :crazy2:

I knew it was Susan's. She found it in her room and it was written to her husband.

I don't miss walkers I actually love the people stories and right now I believe it's more about the military than the walkers.

I don't know if I believe there is a hospital or not. But I very much believe they are removing people that might die or cause major trouble. If there is no hospital though, why did they ask Liza to go to help?

Travis better finally be wising up! I do like Madison.

Great point.

I think what they have is a concentration camp. I wonder if they are using people who might turn as a way to study the virus.

I'm thinking that the Dr sees Liza as a possible asset to the military operation just because she is so ready to rat out her community. Plus she does have some medical skills which could come in handy. I think they see her as someone who could help on their side of things.

Holy cow do these episodes move at a glacial pace. It's so frustrating and almost none of the characters are likeable.

I think we will have to grow to like the characters as the story unfolds. I think the writers are very creative with drawing us in and leaving us guessing who the threat really it. Is it the infected or is it our government? Both are scary. I hope Travis had his come to Jesus moment when those morose code people were shot. I like Melanie as well and I like that she beat the crap out of her kid! That boy needed it. I hope we see the family that was living in their home and went to the hospital. The dad in that family is strong and smart. I am surprised they left thou. Looking forward to next week!
