I'm afraid of heights, but want to give Big Thunder Mountain a shot. How high up does it go? Just to give you a comparison, do you think it goes higher than the top row in Soarin'?

I am very scared of heights and I do okay on thunder mountain not my favorite ride again hoping once I get my new glasses heights wont be a problem

BTMRR shouldn't set you off. I have a severe phobia of heights (I once had a breakdown on a hike and had to be carried down the mountain, it's THAT kind of severe) and it doesn't phase me. I can't do EE or Splash Mountain, but this one is definitely doable! :)

Look at it this way: If you think you're up high, you won't be for very long.;)

I also have a fear of heights, but have always been fine with BTMR. I've been on Soarin and I was ok with that too. Not sure if they're similar in height tho. I agree with the PP who suggested watching the ride video on YouTube. That should give you a good idea at how high the climb is. :goodvibes

Not sure if this will help, but sit in the front row. It sounds crazy but the train hangs over the front so you're already half way down the mountain. By that time, it will feel like a 5 foot drop.

Or sit in the back. You won't even see the (small) heights of the hills.

I'm terrified of heights and love BTMRR. I am on the ground the entire time!

I'm terrified of heights and I'm fine on BTMRR. It's actually one of my favorites!

I would say yes it goes higher than the top row of Soaring, but BTMR never really goes high off the ground it kind of hugs the side of the mountain so its not really a good comparison.

I would not consider BTMR to be high at all, Plus your kinda enclosed in the surroundings so you don't really notice the height. It's not an exposed roller coaster, where you can see over the railing and at no time are you the same height as trees. I think you should be ok.

the train is NEVER more than 2 feet off the ground :)

the ground is hilly though -- but i wouldn't think by more than 20 feet.

but just remember that first sentence!

My mom is deathly afraid of heights. She wouldn't ride on Dumbo, but she loved BTMR

I'm terrified of heights. I even got off of soarin because they put me on the front row. I know, I'm a weinie! Splash mtn makes me nervous. I'm the one with their mouth wide open and their eyes shut in the ride photos. But I can say that I love BTMR! It's one of my favorites.

Im scared of heights & LOVE this ride! to be honest it doesnt have any big drops at all, it goes more in a circular motion (i dont know if that makes sense), kinda more like your going fast around turns/like sideways as opposed to a big drop! Hope that helps & isn't too confusing!

As someone who is also afraid of heights, I'd say that when the train is going up (and you hear the creaking sound) you should look straight ahead and not at your surroundings.

That said, the train "climbs" three times but there are no big drops. Also, the first car is the easiest because you're already over the crest of the hill when you start. It just always felt "safer" to me.

It's a fun ride! You can do it!

If you are afraid of heights and have gone on Soarin, then I think you can definitely do BTMR without a doubt. I am afraid of SOME heights, not all.. but I go on everything in wdw, but if I was really afraid of heights, Soarin might scare me a little even though it is a lot of fun. BTMR doesn't have a drop.. you go up the lift hill (which isn't too high) and you go around a curve. I would suggest that if you are really afraid of heights, maybe sit in the front row because its somewhat of a slower ride because of the small lifts within the ride, the front of the train is already down the little dips while the back is getting pulled more.

Me too - terrified of heights but BTRR is my absolute favorite. It's especially beautiful to ride at night. I've tried Soarin' twice and won't do it again. The last time I honestly didn't think I'd make it through & I was on the last row. It is absolutely terrifying to me & not in a fun way!

I would say yes it goes higher than the top row of Soaring, but BTMR never really goes high off the ground it kind of hugs the side of the mountain so its not really a good comparison.

Everyone's different, but it never occurred to me that there were any heights involved on BTMR. It always seemed kind of tame, but fun.

On Soarin', however, unless I'm on the bottom row, I hold onto whatever I can for dear life and hope the whole time I don't faint and fall forward out of the seat. Despite that, I like Soarin', kind of ... I just would prefer to be closer to the real ground. BTMR is on the ground, pretty much, as the PPs said.
