FEA shows close on MDX, but open to FP+

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned here or not. We had FP+ last night for Frozen Ever After and when I checked MDX for ride status it said it was 'temporarily closed'. We walked to the ride anyway and to our surprise it was open but ONLY to FP+ guests. My guess is that they were showing it as 'closed' to keep the non-FP+ guests from even trying to ride.

So, my advise is to go to the ride anyway if you have a FP+ and it may be open for you.

FWIW, the wait was still at least 30 minutes.

Yeah, they've been doing that since opening day, periodically making the ride FP only. Pretty disappointing to see Disney moving in the direction so many of us feared when FP+ was rolled out, honestly.

This has nothing to do with moving to a FP+-only system and everything to do with running the attraction at lowered capacity to mitigate some of its problems.

They have no choice but to stop SB from entering in order to fulfill all the FP+ being held. It's tough to have a new ride that is a slow loader, with frequent breakdowns and still find that perfect number of FP+ vs SB. It has kinks to work out and adjustments will be made for awhile.

Without all FP+ booked in advance they would have the option to stop distribution in order to account for all the breakdowns and downtime this ride is prone to. With FP+ given out way in advance they have no wiggle room and stand by takes the hit.

Except all the FP+ reservations haven't been given out in advance. Josh at EasyWDW reports that Disney still hasn't released any FP+ reservations for earlier than 11 a.m. for FEA.

I don't think this is true. I'm pretty sure that KtP reported having a 9:30am FP.

First you claimed that Disney was moving in the direction of FP+ only. Now you're claiming that Disney is responding to unintended breakdowns by limiting it to FP+ only. Which is it?

As a PP noted, Disney is still working out the kinks and will likely continue making adjustments.

Besides, the same problem could have happened with paper fast pass distribution. Given the popularity, paper fast passes distribution likely would have ended early in the day. If the ride breakdown occurred after that, there would be no distribution to stop and standby probably still "takes the hit."

I think that for now FEA is going to be a shaky ride, it's not ready to take on the whole crowd. I know that it stinks but, the best thing to do is get Fastpasses which I think most were gonna do anyways. I do believe that after the dust settles down (it's only the first week) the ride will become ready to do both lines. And maybe then for the first time in forever we will be happy with this ride (sorry I had to make a song pun).

Bottom line: don't rely on MDX to tell you if an attraction is closed if you really want to ride it. It would have been very easy for us to remain in Future World instead of trekking all the way to Norway.
