I have just seen a thread about suitable and unsuitable clothes for disney parks. My son has alot of FCUK clothes, and some of them have this across the front. Would you class these as unsuitable?

thanks

It's certainly not as off putting as all those blooming football shirts :) LOL ;)

Stal, to be honest with you, I don't think they will go down very well in WDW parks, I'd ask him to leave them at home.

..... I've just had a chat with someone who tells me that French Connection does in fact have outlets in the malls in Florida and that they think they may have even bought an FCUK top out there - which means I have not given you good advice.

I wrote it because I thought the Americans would be unfamiliar with FCUK and what it stands for and therefore take it the wrong way - I am going to check with some American friends and ask them :)

Yes, there is an FCUK outlet at the Premium Outlet mall.

Your son will be fine with a small logo, but if he tried to enter with one of the large logo shirts, then I think he would be asked to wear it inside out. Im used to these shirts, but I still look twice at them sometimes, thinking Im seeing a different word! Not something Disney will be keen on in a family environment!

Allie.

Looking at the Premium Outlet Mall store listings, it says French Connection, rather than FCUK.

I've had a couple of responses so far from my American pals (who are in Orlando more than they are home !!) and so far, they are saying it's a no-no.

The French Connection outlet sells a large range of FCUK gear. Obviously catering to the Brit market!!

Just asked my DB who lives in Georgia and he had no idea what I was talking about. Then again though he's not very fashion concience!! LOL

Although there are FCUK outlets in the US,My personal opinion would be unless it is a very small logo,I wouldn't like mine to wear the large FCUK.It's not worth offending anyone:(

Hi, Thanks for all your replies.

So he won't wear them in the disney parks. What about around the resort, around downtown disney, and other places?

We may need to buy more clothes. lol

thanks for your replies

I wore a fcuk t'shirt at an off-sight night show. I wouldn't have worn it around the parks though.

It took me ages to get 'used' to seeing the FCUK logo - it always took me aback ,so figure unsuspecting Americans might get the same shock. The shirt's fine but the reaction might not be, if you see what I mean.

And do we REALLY have to do the Footy shirt insult all the time? Some like it some don't. Can't we just get along?

Stal, I think this might be a good lesson for him in understanding the sensibilities of other cultures (although we share a lot with America, there are certainly a lot of differences in the culture). While it would be acceptable or even trendy in New York bars or down town Miami , I think that the main reason for wearing the clothes is it's "shock factor". I'm not sure the risk of an unwanted confrontation is worth the reward of "admiring glances".

The resort, DTD, the themeparks and waterparks ( pretty much the whole of the "tourist area" around WDW) are seen as being "kid friendly". Unless you're going to go night clubbing ( and I doubt he'd get in on age :) ) I can't think of an instance where it has a zero risk of offending someone. If you go down the route of looking at individual shirts to decide what is and is not offensive, you run the risk of MANY arguments with DS over his and your ideas of acceptable ( or what is acceptable to middle America). I think your easiest option is to ask that he chooses different shirts to take.

I personally wouldn't wear that logo, particularly in the US. It's very much a 'brit' thing and I think it sad that the company markets itself in this way. It's rather pathetic. But that's JMHO. Thing is, Americans won't know the double significance. Let's face it, it's written as it is for the specific purpose of shocking and being misread.
:(

from an American's POV..I've never heard of this brand and I had to look twice to make sure you hadn't misspelled a foul word. If it were me and i just had to wear their clothes with a logo, it would be small and discreet. I think other Americans may think you can't spell and are trying to be humorous.

Okay - I now have a lot of feedback from people who are dotted around the States - and I have to tell you that they are unanimous - and they say don't bring the tops to USA.

Sorry Stal - I'm afraid you are going to have to buy some new T-Shirts.

They wouldn't bother me in the least, but I'm sure you'd run into a lot of people who would go out of their way to let you know their displeasure.

btw not to put words in Tim's mouth, but I believe he was just joking around about footy shirts.

My son wore his fcuk Tshirts numerous times last year. The only feedback he had was when a shop assistant in Disney Studios asked him if he'd bought it on holiday, as she'd seen numerous people wearing them and wanted to get one!

I also have several FCUK tops some with the logo on and some without. I am not planning to take the logo ones on holiday with me as I don't think they are appropriate for a family resort such as Disney where American kids might misunderstand the meaning. Saying that one of my tops I did buy in America last year when I was in Las Vegas. The shop was called FCUK and was in one of the hotel shopping malls. But I guess Vegas is different to Disney!!
Have a great holiday.

I'd go along with the consensus here........ in fact I think our US friends have it right.

French Connection aim for a certain market with those t-shirts...... I won't say any more than that...!

Disney is a place for fun, not for "shock" tactics.

I don't mind footie shirts, though! At least you get an idea where the owners come from...........especially all those nice folk from the South with their Man. Utd shirts ( JOKE! )
