We watched a couple (kids in tow) just unleash on a poor girl at Big Thunder. They were not aware of the time limit and were beyond upset.
"It's YOUR JOB to blah blah blah..."
"I shouldn't have to read the fine print....."

And in the end, they won. She just relented and let the family on. I'm sure she just wanted them out of her face.

We couldn't believe how upset they were, how mean they were and generally just so up in her face and ridiculous. When we walked by her I gave her a very sympathetic look and she just rolled her eyes. Poor kid. I imaged her having this same coversation many times a day.

And then people wonder why customre service is a lost art.

When I see behavior like this, I'm reminded of the episode where Bart got an elephant.

When he released the "pet" into the elephant preserve, the pachyderm started head butting all the other elephants. When Bart asked the ranger why he was doing it, the ranger responded,
"Well, some elephants do that to introduce themselves, some do it to establish dominance, and some elephants are just jerks".

It amazes me that people think they are "above" the rules. And they shouldn't have to read the fine print? That is so ridiculous. And then to take it out on the CM who is only trying to do her job.
These people should grow up and follow the printed rules.

Lol!!! Perfect!

That reminds me, I have to finish writing my "strongly worded'" letter to guest services regarding alcohol in MK, brand-less napkins, and MSB serving Starbucks.

My kids always get upset with me because I'm the kind that will say something to people like that. Doesn't always help the situation but I'm like many others who have no tolerance for those who think they are above the rules.
And believe me it's the last thing I want to do on vacation:thumbsup2

Nothing like showing your children an inappropriate way to handle a situation. :worried:

Yeah, no kidding! I tend to walk my daughter away from those scenarios to be honest. Reminds me of that show Parking Wars, where nobody is ever guilty of illegal parking and always arguing about how they are right and it's not their fault. Blah, Blah, Blah...responsibility, courtesy is a lost art. Whatever happenedto, "omigosh, I'm so sorry. I made an error in judgement/whatever"

I really felt sorry for some of the CM's the last time we were there. We only had a couple of instances of this type of situation, but the ones we saw were horrendous and I just wanted to go give them a hug.

Yep, this is how some people roll, scream louder, make scene and get what you want! :sad2:

It's my opinion in situations like this, security should be called and the offender should be escorted out of the park. Disney needs to quit coddling the 'I'm so special, rules don't apply to me' crowd.

I guess I'm more surprised at the level of animosity and anger over a ride. A ride. At a theme park.

Makes me wonder how people like that handle real crisis or really meaningful situations that actually matter.

Apparently they have found that tactics like this work. So I'm sure they'll use them again down the road for something else. And it will work again. Sigh.

totally this. :thumbsup2

When the guests get abusive, I believe that's what the CM is supposed to do. Of course, it doesn't help their immediate situation any, and I suspect all Security will do is explain to them firmly that they need to take the issue up at City Hall, where they will most likely just get courteous fastpasses issued.

One thing to clarify though, people can be mean spirited, rude and pretty outright offensive without necessarily crossing the threshold that would obviously abusive when retold/explained. And unfortunately, a lot of things are really 'little things' that add up when you deal with as many 'little things' in a given day :).

Unfortunately, this is difficult. Yes, the CM can call security, but I can absolutely guarantee you that by the time security (and a manager) arrive, the offending party will be putting on their best "victim" face and saying that the CM misunderstood them and that they're sorry for getting the rules wrong, but the CM was doing a bad job of explaining it ... etc etc etc. It's unlikely that security is going to walk up just as someone is in someone else's face screaming at them.

Have to agree. I'm sure they had some idea. For the most part, most guests used those stupid FPs within the stated window time. Those using them past the window, for late entry, were a small percentage. So, I find it hard to believe that anyone the used them late, wouldn't know they had to now be used within the stated window.
So...they have a hissy fit, and are then allowed to enter. I would bet the farm that they did that on more than one occasion!! If the CMs had refused them entrance, they would have had to stop using the FPs late...plain and simple.

That's what I was thinking. It's a ride, really. I feel badly for the CM and for the people around the spectacle.

Disney needs to back their CM's. Too many people know full well that they do not have to follow rules, and if a CM dares try to make them, Disney will give them compensation for their 'troubles'.

I believe it's time for Disney to reverse a troubling trend.

It's not really a trend per say. It's a business tactic that's been around for years: the customer's always right (even if he or she is not).
