Favorite Vero Beach Resturants

We are heading down this summer, and now that the kids are bit older I want to try some resturants outside of the resort. I'd be curious to hear from everyone what is your favorites.

We go to VB this summer also for the first time (7/4-7/7). There are several good threads on here about restaurants that you may want to find and subscribe to. Here is the link for one of them.

Post 112 (I think) has a great link to a map of the Vero Beach area with the locations of several restaurants mapped on it. There is also a lot of discussion about a few of these restaurants that people really like. We plan to try a few of them while we're there.

Thanks. I did see this thread as well this afternoon. Not much in total on resturants, but some good info. I was hoping to spark some discussion on just good Vero resturants.

I love Squid Lips.

One thing about Vero is that there is not a bunch of dining immediately surrounding the resort - you have to drive a bit - so we end up eating at the resort more than we would otherwise just for convenience. This year, I think we'll venture out more than we have in the past.

Two years ago, I thought Shutters was really good - but last year it was not nearly as good (and the menu committed the cardinal sin of not having many fresh seafood selections). I'm hoping it's better this year!

We love Ocean Grill. There were a few we liked that closed after the hurricanes a couple years ago. We're going down in 2 weeks - I've read Tangoes is nice (but probably too nice for 3 kids and us...). There's a Thai and Italian place we may try - but I'd love some suggestions as well!

We have really enjoy a place called Captain Hirams.

Good good, fun atmosphere and good prices. Really good seafood. It has a sand bad right near it.

1. Lots of fresh seafood - especially - lots of great shrimp offerings.

2. Reasonable prices and casual atmosphere.

3. "Florida-style" fried seafood - which is a lighter style of fried fish where the seafood is dusted w/seasoned flour rather than dipped in a batter.

4. VANILLA VINAGRETTE DRESSING!!!!!!!!
I've never tasted or even heard of such a thing outside of Squid Lips, and I've combed the shelves at Trader Joes and Whole Foods hoping to find something, anything similar. I bought three bottles last year and I think they lasted a month. I think I need a case this year!!!!!!!

i have read a few times that there isnt much really close to vero beach im wondering how far places are away from here, how long a drive to these nice eating places write about? Is there anything within walking distance?? going sept 08 cant wait

Link to Google Map of VB Restaurants&Shopping I did this map a few months ago when I found the function on Google Maps. You should be able to zoom-in and change to satellite images (which are not really from satellites). Also click on a blue marker in the list and it will show you where it is on the map. DVBR is in red.

ETA: I was just playing around on that map. They made it really easy to make one now! I had to input all the addresses. Now you just search and add it to your map. Coool!

The only place that is within walking distance is Orchid Island Pizza - a take out place. Ya know, maybe there are tables, I don't know, we had them deliver! Had a great picnic on the beach with some 'za.

The only other place we have gone is Capt. Hirams. Sand Bar. We had a lot of fun and would go back. We didn't have food you could really call challenging - bar food. ...but the drinks!! Those aren't no Disney Drinks!

I've heard good things about Mr. Manatees but I've never been ther. It's on the list for my next trip.

When DH and I are in Vero we always have at least one meal at The Patio. The first time we stayed at VB one of the CMs recommened we try it. We did and loved it. We've never had a bad meal there. The restaurant is in Vero Beach on the SW corner of Rt 1 & 11th Ave., so you'll need a car to get there.

Another place that we love is the Ocean Grill on Beachland Blvd. Good food, a little expensive, but good and many of the tables have a good view of the ocean.

We went to Capt. Hirams once. It was also quite good.

I'll second the recommendation for Squid Lips. My friends and I went in September and the service was excellent and the food was even better. It is definitely a casual place, not upscale at all, but when our food got to the table all you could hear from us was "yummmmm" and some chewing noises.

I tried Captain Hiram's on another trip and thought it was trashy, tacky and uninspired. They spend too much money on advertising and not enough on quality in the kitchen.

The Lemon Tree has a great breakfast and is also good for dinner. Bobbys and The Ocean Grill are also great for lunch or dinner.

Woody's BBQ, which is located in a strip shopping center in Sebastian, was really good.

Captain Hiram's was a tourist trap--the food was very mediocre and the prices were a bit steep for the (lack of) food quality. It would be a great place just for drinks, but I wouldn't eat there again.
