Favorite Singer before your time

So does "before your time" mean that they were popular before I was born? I was born in 1981, but I grew up listening to 60s and 70s country so I'd have to say Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr., Charlie Daniels. My first crush was Kenny Rogers but I don't know if he counts as before my time, since he was still touring pretty recently. And I saw Hank Williams Jr. and Charlie Daniels in concert when I was in high school so maybe they aren't before my time, but they were at the height of their popularity before I was old enough to be a fan.

King of the Road is probably in my top 5 favorite songs of all time:

My father loved opera and classical music, not into popular music at all. There were tons of kids on my block and us younger kids, were rocking out to the sounds our siblings listened to. I remember being in pajamas bouncing on my brother’s bed listening to The Who and LED Zeplin. My brother loved ELO and playing them constantly so Jeff Lynne is someone kind of before my time, but who I remember growing up to.

I remember falling in love with YES- and just listening to this clip makes me remember who much I loved this Album- Tormato in particular. What kid wouldn’t love a good song about a mythical circus? Jon Anderson was such a story teller and the music so captivating.

There are many things kids have today I didn’t have growing up. But the music I grew up listening to is one thing I’m thankful about.

no, like I like Dean Martin, and I remember him well, but when he was his biggest I wasnt alive. BTW I love King of the Road

Bing Crosby for me, good grief that guy could sing and was a good actor. I'll also mention Louis Armstrong but it has more to do with his playing than his singing. He was good at both but his influence on Jazz is just insane.:)

They were both on my short list too, but my list was already too long, lol!

Everyone is mentioning Dean Martin in Rio Bravo, what about Ricky Nelson? I was a huge Ricky Nelson fan.

I am also a big Steve and Eydie fan. I was alive when Ricky, Steve and Eydie were popular, but I was a little kid and would consider them more my parents generation.

I was born in 1970 and grew up listening to The Carpenters in my house. Karen Carpenter has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.
