Favorite Rides vs Lands in Order?

We're going to DL Thurs 8/14 thru Sat 8/16.
As a kid, when we went to DL each year, my mom followed the map in a clockwise circle, hitting all the rides in each land as we worked our way around the park. That makes sense to me, and it seems like the best way to get through everything you want to see/ride without wasting time skipping areas/backtracking.
DH, on the other hand, likes to land-hop, going from Star Tours, across to Pirates, maybe back again for Jedi Training, then oh let's go on the Jungle Cruise....
Except for the added walk time, that system works OK during slow times, but what about during the busy summer season? I haven't been to DL in summer for many years--we usually go in Feb & Oct.
Who goes by ride, and who goes by land? And for you super organized folks, in what order do you hit lands?

We hit favorite rides first. This time we went to Nemo, Matterhorn, Buzz, Space, Splash, and Indiana first thing in the morning on the first day. We then hit Pirates and HH. After that we went to CA and did our favorites there. Then came back to DL.

We got into the true spirit of park hopping. :rotfl2: So you can see we prefer to get our to our favorite rides first. We ran all over DLR that first day. After that we felt we could relax a little and go back to other less important things. Personally, I could never go land by land knowing a favorite ride was filling up across the park. :)

It really depends for us on a couple of things, time of year, and whats new. If something new is around (ex. Nemo, or the new release of POTC with Jack Sparrow, or SM just opening after the 2 yr refurb), then we hit those up first. After that, we ask the kids what they want to do, which is usually JC, POTC, HM, and Indy. Fortunately, they are somewhat in the same vicinity (sp?). We try to get Buzz in soon after wards, and maybe Star Tours if they dont have a long line. We usually try to FP Autopia. Storybookland we save for evening, we not like to ride it in the blazing sun with now covering (like on JC) over us. Fantasyland we usually do after lunch, and we do the whole land except for Storybookland and Matterhorn at that time.

HTH!

We like to follow the Hydroguy tips in his sticky tips thread at the top of this forum. There are several headings in there; this one is "Getting the Most out of a Summer Visit to DLR." http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1345319

A couple of the main strategies in there are 1. getting to the parks before opening 2. riding the rides that build long lines later, very early in the day before they get busy and 3. collecting FPs to use later on, after a midday break.

Hydroguy's Tips Compilation is really terrific for helping you know all the tricks to seeing DL. If you follow it, you'll rarely wait in lines more than 10-20 minutes, even on the busiest days.

Hope that helps!
