Favorite restaurants that no longer exist?

mmm Farrell's!!!! I remember being humilated by that birthday drum though! (ours was in the Sunrise Mall- which I don't think I would go to now but then it was great!)

Another one that was local was a place that I think was called Nixon's? It was on long island- and it was a great place for diner. The chef made this chicken appetizer that was to die for and it changed owners and we were left without our chicken:sad1: We had heard he opened another restaurant and tried to find it but no luck.

I think I spent every Sunday as a kid at some Steak Place- I don't think it was Sizzler, it had a huge buffet for salad and dessert- I think it started with a C? Oh that is going to bug me all day today. Better call mom. I remember!! Cookie's!!! Anybody? There was one near the Walt Whitman Mall and one in Freeport I think.

Oh and Ground Round! We tried one that we found in PA and it was not the same.
OOOH and this Pizza Place that was just outside the Sunrise Mall. It eventually turned into a Uno's but before it did that it was a pan pizza place and they made the BEST Mozzarella garlic bread I have ever tasted.

I remember a restaurant that I used to go to in my teen years called Po' Folks. Boy did they have the best chicken, and the atmosphere was so fun. Anybody remember this one?? Anyone?? Or am I just crazy?? (Don't answer that!!):upsidedow

I live by the Sunrise Mall. It's a nice little mall, and it's been getting spruced up by the new ownership.

Ground Round- I spent most of my college years there, my friends would all go out to eat there. They had popcorn on all the tables and I would get the Pot of Gold appetizer that had everything fried. My stomach was much stronger then!

Ground Round is still around--I was in one 2 weeks ago.

You are NOT crazy. I remember them too. The waiters wore overalls at our location. Good country cooking.

I miss Copeland's. They are still around but not in Alabama. I loved their cajun pork loin medallions. They weren't on the menu but if you asked for them they would make them. WOW were they good!

Amy

We had PO' Folks in GA many years ago! Real southern cooking!!!

I also miss Shoney's

Shoney's is still around, mainly in the southeast. There are some here in Richmond.

Rax!! Ohh, I remember them! There was one in Dalton, GA, across from the mall. A bit pricey but great food for fast food.

And Po' Folks! Mmmmm. Remember them also. Great southern food.

Burger Chefs! So greasy.
It was bought by Mr. Cooks, they had realhand made 1/2 pound burgers:hippie:

I used to miss Bonnanza, but I found one in Sulphur :woohoo:

I also have a Copelands about 7 minutes from my house.

TheShoneys are gone from the area. I do know where a Shipely's Donuts is. :cool2:

I was thinking about Roy Rogers roast beef sandwiches the other day. I loved how they gave you the gravy to dip the roast beef sandwich in. I used to love when my parents would take us there.

Oh Burger Chef had the best fries!
I miss Casa Lupita too.

Flakey Jakes

I think they may have only been on the West Coast. They had build you own hamburgers and the place was great. Expensive burgers, but worth the price IMO.

Copeland's of New Orleans--forgot about that one. I adored their blackened bayou chicken entree, and their corn and crab bisque. But the last couple of times we ate there, the service was mediocre at best.

Roy Rogers ..... I loved their Double R Bar burger.

We actually have one Roy Rogers left about 3 towns over from me. The rest closed down.

Recently (as of last week), we lost Long John Silvers. It was the only one in the Long Island, NYC area :(. The closest one is upstate in Elmira (unless that one closed).

There were 2 here on LI. One close to home, one further away...the one close to home closed about 2 yrs ago, I don't know if the other one is still open or not. I see they are selling the pizzas in the frozen food section of the supermarket, but it's just not the same. I loved the house dressing they had too.

Is the one by Smithhaven mall still there (by I-Hop)? It's been awhile since I was down that end.

ETA: Missy, there is still a Houlihans on Middle Country Rd in Lake Grove. Just checked out their website. Looks like it's the only one on LI.

Kenny Roger's Roasters had good creamed spinach. As a pp mentioned, Snackville Junction...:sad1: I went there many times as a kid. They have a Choo Choo Johnny's in Frankfort. It is fun for the kids, but it is not quite the same!

I forgot about that place! We had two that closed down about 6+ years ago. I loved their chicken!

I Loved Shakeys! And Farrells. Does anyone remember the Big Shef at Burger Chef? They had a fixin's bar and you could build your own hamburger.

That's the one we used to go to!! I grew up in Citrus Heights. Are you from here too??

I also miss Shoney's...for several years, my family all met there on Christmas Eve morning after my brother's and my swim practice and we all had their breakfast buffet. MAN, they had the best bacon ever!

We go to Shoney's in VA when visiting my BIL and his family. Nice place.

A pp mentioned Jack in the Box. We had one when I was a kid but it was replaced with a Pizza Hut. Then Pizza Hut went out about 10 years ago and was recently replaced with a Mexican/Spanish restaurant.

ETA: There are a few more places that I'm starting to remember.

Beefsteak Charlie's (My parents went there. I never did.)
Okie Dokey's (just recently closed down within the last 3 months)
Sizzler

As far as Ground Round, there is one in Bay Shore here. And I thought they had all closed down until we passed it one day.

My friend and I are going to the Ponderosa next week up in Batavia NY when we go for a women's conference up there (w/o our DH's and the kids).

Another fast food place that went out here was Arby's.

I miss Fuddruckers.....alot of them closed down, but you can still find one every now and then. Love their fixings bar and onion rings!!
