Favorite Movie Musical

I love Moulin Rouge and Chicago.But I love musicals like Blues Brothers,Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Purple Rain.What's your favorite?

Well of course I am in love with Chicago - but for older ones I like Bye Bye Birdie. I also like the Disney version of Annie, but the 1982 version butchered it - although it is still enjoyable for my daughter to watch.

I love Moulin Rouge (except I wanted a happier ending)

I still like Sound of Music.

I haven't seen the two you mentioned, but I have always loved Grease and Sound of Music.

Blues Brothers and Willy Wonka... although I love the stage version of Cabaret, I never liked the movie.

i guess it depends on your definition of a musical...as i personally don't think of the movie Purple Rain as a musical...i think of the old hollywood style musicals...where they break out into a song and it applies to whatever situation is happening...

although i like Moulin Rouge (no offense Satine!), it's not a favorite musical of mine...i love the story (based on the opera La Boheme)...but i don't like the way they used some of the music...but i love the movie from the artistic perspective! the costumes, dancing, sets, and the acting was fabulous! i just didn't care for the way the songs were used...

I really like My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, and Mary Poppins. I think Musicals are great and there are so many more I like I couldn't name them all!

My absolute favorite which I've seen more times than I can count is South Pacific.

I love all Richard & Oscar plays but SP is my favorite, followed by Oklahoma, Carousel, Sound of Music, King and I.

I do count movies like Purple rain since music is a huge part of the story(usually rock musicals are that way)
