Favorite Gift & Weirdest Gift

My favorite gift is a tonal Mickey Dooney & Bourke satchel handbag! Weird? None really. :)

wierdest - from my "dear" (not) daughter-in-law and my son. A gift certificate for me and Greg for "2 adult salt sessions" at a place called The Salt Cavern. (Also known as "halotherapy", it's a holistic method - blah blah blah - you sit in the salt room and breath in the fine salt air - blah blah blah.) Why on earth she would think Greg and I would like this is beyond me.

Hahaha, that place is right down the street from my house. Always wondered what it was all about. Doesn't sound appealing at all ;)

My favorite gift was a beautiful necklace from my very practical boyfriend. He generally doesn't buy things that don't have a "purpose", and this was something he picked out himself with no hints from me... made me cry (yeah, I'm a sap).

I didn't get anything weird, surprisingly. I usually do, but not this year. Lucky me! :cool1:

Favorite: an angel made by my son's Sunday School teacher's mother who was my teacher as a kid. She died several years ago so it's very special. Also, seeing my 2 year olds reaction to his presents, "YESSSS!!! YESSSS!!!"

Weirdest: I only really asked for 3 things and I got them along with cash. This NEVER happens to me!

Favorite: Tickets and reservations to see the Phillies play the Braves in Disney World in March!!!! I've never been to the Flower and Garden Festival, and we're fitting that in as well.
Weirdest: was actually no gift - from a kid in my class who came in with gifts for office staff and the "specials" teachers, but no gift for me. This has me obsessing over what I may have done to incur her parents' displeasure and led to such an outright slight, but of course I can't ask, and I have no idea. Many kids don't give gifts, and I'm fine with that. But to give gifts to everyone in the building except the homeroom teacher seems deliberate, and I would love to know why. Weird.

One of my favorite gifts was a bird shaped salt and pepper shakers from my twins. We have been using a set of Christmas shakers for the last year so they bought me theses at their school Santa's secret shop - they would not even go shopping with their dad to town, because they knew I would love them.
I also love my Kindle Fire HD - my husband got me the one with 32 gb so I could use it for my classroom stuff too

Favorite gifts - I have 2 - a Jim Shore Mickey through the looking glass sculpture from DH and a beautiful necklace from DD and DS that has 2 purple hearts - my favorite color. :goodvibes
Weirdest - a bird house made made with caribou antlers for the perches - though I do think its cool too - its all handmade from an artist down in Wasilla, Ak - nifty but a bit weird. :)

Do you teach the child or just have the child for homeroom? If you only have them for homeroom perhaps that is why. Also we all have had teachers that we did not like. Maybe it was the child's choice and not the parents. Perhaps they even purchased a gift for you and the child chose not to give it to you. I know if I did not like a teacher and my parents bought a gift for them I probably would not have given it to them. We all want to be liked but that doesn't always happen. Perhaps it was an oversight or the child messed up with who was supposed to get the gifts even.

I teach the child for all of the major subjects. Parents are very demanding, but I've been very accommodating and thought all was well. It just strikes me as odd.

I got several really nice gifts....a Singer Sewing Machine, a new Tablet (both from my DBF) and a shark steam mop (which has been on my list for a couple of years) from my daughter. Didn't get any weird gifts this year.

I had an experience last year where a student gave me a gift (a coffee mug and a gift certificate to Target), then explained this was from his mother and if it were up to him he wouldn't give me anything because he hated me! This child had been a behavioral problem and continued to be until the end of the school year, including several out of school suspensions which had nothing to do with my class!

I returned the gift to him and called his mom with him standing there. I explained to her that I appreciated her well wishes, but I didn't feel right taking the gift when it was presented to me in that manner. She asked to speak to her son - immediately! He started crying and got on the phone. I then left the room. I know it was kind of mean - but, come on! He was in sixth grade - he knew what he was doing!

The kids all know me pretty well. I'm up to 25 Vinylmations, all given to me as gifts from my students in the last year. I wasn't going to collect them as I already collect the little PVC figures and am up to 834 of them!

I also got a Mickey coffee mug this year from one student and a hand drawn and painted picture of Mickey Mouse from another student - she did an amazing job!

Well here is the weirdest gift we ever gotten...although I'm sure the weirdness of it was unintentional.

We received an item for a coffee or end table that was basically a statuette of the Xmas manger scene....complete with 3 wise men and such. It was actually quite nice looking. When you plugged it in, it even had water flowing through parts of it.

The weird part was the music when you turned it on. Amidst Mary/Joseph, the wise men, and the baby....was the following tune:

"Walking in a Winter Wonderland"

Yep, this scene had the song "Sleigh Bells ring....are you listening....".

My favorite gift was a Nikon D3000 D-SLR camera set up, with two lenses, a carrying case, SD card, and a bunch of other 'extras'.

The weirdest was a $50 Starbucks card from my aunt and uncle. I love Starbucks, and love getting gift cards even more, but it seemed odd as they rarely give a gift worth more than $5. What makes it even stranger is the fact that our families have drifted apart due to some issues we've had with them, and I'm not just talking typical family drama.

This gets my vote for #1 weirdest - would love to see a photo of this!:rotfl2:
