We've finally decided on the GF Lagoon View for our 2006 vacation. Please, GF experts, could you tell us where your favorite lagoon view standard room is at GF? Why? This will be our first GF trip after many years at Boardwalk and the Swan and I can't wait to be on the monorail!! Thanks so much. :sunny:

Well IMHO, I have had conch key which is a lot of peoples fav. because its closer to the MK BUT my personal fav. room: We were at the GF over 9/11 and a great cm moved us to this room. :wizard: He said he picked it out himself and spent his honeymoon in that room. It was the corner room in big pine key. Its LV the corner that sticks out to the right of the building on the water. You get 2 balconies. and a great view of everything. Yes you get the mk view to the left, cr to the front, and poly to the right, and the 2nd balcony area has view of the beach / and waterfall pool at gf ( is at a distance). There are some trees between the water and the building but we where able to see without a problem around them. These rooms are slightly larger than the regular rooms at the gf which are already large.

Just returned from the GF and had a perfect MK/Castle view in Sago Cay. We had two connecting rooms and both had amazing views. The castle was dead center and the kids loved that. At night it seemed the fireworks were being shown just for us. My mom was in Boca Chica and her view was very obstructed by the big pine trees. You could see the lagoon and electric parade at night, but her view didn't compare with ours. If you want to see the castle I would request a MK view in Conch or Sago. If you get a lagoon view in either of those you will not have any problems with big pine trees. I can not say enough good things about the GF. It was the perfect hotel for our family with 4 young kids. And we even got towel animals every day and the kids blankets/stuffed animals arranged in a fun way each night! Hope you have a magical trip.

The ends of Sago Key and Conch Key are definitely the best. But there are just not a lot of these rooms -- just a few on each floor.

The one thing I'd want to know before requesting Sago Key is whether the rooms that face the lagoon to the north are also "LV." I tend to doubt they are, but that would be really disappointing if you ended up there. In other words, if the only LV in Sago Key is the end of the building, that would make it safe to request.

I really like Boca Chica, toward the north end. But as others have noted, if you get stuck behind a tree, you're just plain stuck. If you request a high floor in Boca Chica, you should be ok. The short end of Big Pine Key is nice too -- and it sounds from the post above that the corner of BPK is great. The problem with requesting BPK is that while that room sounds great, there are a number of rooms that qualify as LV in Big Pine that, IMO, are not worth the extra money -- the ones (particularly on low floors) that face the Poly.

Our favorite lagoon view was in Sago Cay with a direct view of the castle. Big Pine Key lagoon room was nice, you could see the castle when you looked to the left, you could also see the Poly. Big Pine Key couldn't compare to the Sago Cay view however.

Thanks so much! We've spent a lot of time trying to decide on the monorail resort that is right for us and we're looking forward to the GF so much!

NDAMomX2, make sure you book a Lagoon View room and put in a request for a Magic Kingdom View. Remember, it is only a request but Disney will try their best to honor it. I should also note that not all Lagoon View rooms have Magic Kingdom Views (some have views of the Poly), but my fingers are crossed that you'll get a castle view.

I hope you have a wonderful vacation. My family adores the Grand Floridian, no matter what our room's view winds up being (it sure beats anything that we have at home ;)).

Not sure how many people the OP is taking in their party, BUT remember; if asking for the "top" floor you get the dormer rooms. Which are the elevated beauitful ceilings but are a bit smaller and do not have the couch/ daybed. So only sleep 4. These also have the "stand up" balcony with the solid wall, privacy type, but these are also alot smaller than the usual gf balcony. So you might want to ask for the top floor but non-dormer room if that is what you desire.

Lark,
Only the rooms on the end of the building in Sago Cay and Conch Key are Lagoon, the rooms on each side are Garden.

Very true!! We just checked out of a Garden view at Conch Key this a.m. and our room faced the marina and the lake. If you leaned out on the balcony reaaaaallly far and looked to the right, you could see the castle. ;)
The rooms on the end of the building have a fabulous view!

I love those Sago Cay Garden Views rooms too. Didn't you just hate to leave.

Absolutely!! Even our 12yo ds who wasn't thrilled with the GF when we checked in had grown to love it and was really bummed to be leaving!! :goodvibes

Thanks to everyone for their help regarding our GF vacation. We made the ressies and will be staying for eight nights in June. I'll keep my fingers crossed that we get a MF view. But, whatever our view, I'm sure this will be a dream vacation. :cloud9:
