IKIRU...a film by Akira Kurosawa

A Japanese film, I watch a lot of foreign films with DS but this one is a Must See! We love it.

If anyone has seen it please let me know your opinion on it, or if you see it in the future I'd love to know what you think!

Babette's Feast (French) - If you've never seen it rent it. It is fantastic.

I may have seen it. Was that the one where a lowly office worker finds out he's dying of cancer, and decides to "leave a legacy" before he goes? If so, I remember it as very moving.

Amelie and Run Lola Run are two of my favorite movies, I might go downstairs and watch one of them now that I'm thinking about it. I saw another movie with audrey tatou but i can't remember the name of it, she was obsessed with this man, it was good.

Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (aka Amelie - France - 2001)

La Vita è bella (Life is Beautiful - Italian - 1997)

Cidade de Deus (City of God - Brazil - 2002)

M - (Germany - 1931)

Tirez sur le pianiste (Shoot the Piano Player - France - 1960)

Shall we dansu? (Shall we Dance - Japan -1996) is a delightful little film, far superior to the American remake.

Run Lola Run is one of the must see foriegn films IMO.

I also enjoyed Amelie. Chinese action/love stories: House of flying daggers, crouching tiger, hidden dragon, Hero.. etc. And pretty much anything that Studio Canal et al make.. I love those british movies! Love Actually tops my list, About a boy, and Bean is hilarious XD, and I <3 Johnny English! They are so cheesy and dumb, but they're 10 million times better than cheesy and dumb american movies. Must be the british speak

There are also some obscure French films I saw in French class:
My Fathers Glory/My Mothers Castle, Jean de Florette/Manon in the Spring, Au Revoir Les Enfants.

I also have seen many a Japanese Anime: Akira, Metropolis(very good!), all the Miyozaki/Studio Ghibli movies (spirited away, my neighbor totoro..), and Ghost in the Shell

All are really good, I guess it's probably because we don't get fed the junk movies that tank in these other countries

I seem to have a problem watching subtitled movies at home, I think because I get easily distracted. When the movie is in English, someone will say something to grab your attention before too long - if the movie's any good, that is. But if I stop paying attention during a subtitled movie, I can lose it entirely.

It's too bad, because I used to watch a lot of these movies in theaters. But now if you want to see them you generally have to rent them. There's a ton of them available, but unless I can get some discipline, it doesn't work out that well for me.

Another vote for Amelie! Audrey Tautou is absoultely beautiful. I saw another movie with her in it about a doctor that trades citizenship papers to undocumented workers in exchange for their kidneys. That movie was really great (I didn't expect it to be) and the best part for all those who don't like subtitles is that it is set in England, so the dialouge is in English!
