Favorite east coast beach destinations

We are wanting another week on the beach after an in-law ruined vacation to our fav spot-Hatteras-last week. We want to return to the beach but all the Hatteras houses are full with true oceanfront views. So-where do you LOVE the beach where I can get an oceanfront home? I don't want to drive to Florida and I know the beaches there so I'm looking for NC, SC, etc.
Thanks in advance. If you have a fav realty company, I'd love to know about them as well.

Look into Bald Head Island, NC. I know for a fact that there are houses there that have availability this summer. Most of the rentals come with the use of either the Shoals Club or the Bald Head Island club (renters choice of which).

If you search Bald head island, the rental site comes up.

We stayed at Holden Beach NC two weeks ago (renting less than two weeks before our trip). Great beach. I also like Topsail, Ocean Isle and Sunset beachs in NC. You should be able to find something at one of those on the beaches. Good luck!

Sunset is my favorite beach on the NC/SC coast. I absolutely loved it. Love that area and would be willing to try any of the beaches HM mentioned.

Ahh, the dreaded in-law misadventure. I hear ya, it always starts out well with the best of intentions then things go South. We just got back from a trip with the in-laws who were, mostly, well behaved. But, alas, all things come to an end and towards the end of the trip they became more and more ornery. Oddly, at the same time I kept on mysteriously being taken away from the group by an unusually strong current that somehow kept finding me and pulling me out of earshot

Nice place, Bald Head Island. Yeah, they had some availability but it was way more expensive than Nags Head or Hatteras which are not cheap so I passed. I'm talking 40% higher rental rates for similar homes. Whew! We don't need the club affiliation as we are hackers so rarely play golf or tennis seriously on vaca. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!!!
The other spots are solidly booked.

We have a soundfront home in Emerald Isle, NC. It is a great, laid back beach. EI is located on Bouge Banks which stretches from Atlantic Beach to Pine Knoll Shores, to Indian Beach, to Salter Path and ends with Emerald Isle. I would be willing to bet you could get a fairly good deal on an oceanfront house at short notice. Try Emerald Isle Realty. Good luck. PM me if you want restaurant suggestions.

Just got back from Sunset as my sister lives there now. I really hope that the new bridge doesn't destroy the quaintness of Sunset.

I also second the recommendations of Holden, Topsail, Emerald Isle. You may also want to consider Atlantic Beach, NC.

I have mixed feelings about the bridge. The old one is a pain in the *rse, but its the first thing I think of when asked about Sunset Beach.

My SIL always finds great deals lastish minute at Holden Beach and Ocean Isle. Wrightsville Beach apparently has some openings this year as well, though it will be more expensive. Topsail is great, too.

The water at these beaches this year is soooooo crystal clear and clean- and warm already. It's going to be a fantastic summer in coastal NC!

I kept disappearing and they continued to come after me. At the end, my MIL(whom I normally love) was SO over the line that I called my husband in and walked away. I said, 'talk to your mother.' She said, 'I didn't mean to cause any problems' Riiiiiight. Never again will we vacation together. It was a challenge to say the least.
