I am having a party this weekend, and am looking for dessert recipes/ideas. I have the usual cookies and things like that. Anything a little bit different that you have seen at a party or made yourself? I'd appreciate any ideas!

Well, my favorite dessert is ice cream and cake, or ice cream cake!

BUT...

I like to make individual cheesecakes. You buy Jell-O No Bake Cheesecake, and make them in cupcake paper things... (what are those called? I can't remember!) They take about three hours in the fridge. Top them with cherries or strawberries (they come in the box) and people LOVE them.

Well one that I had recently (friends brought it over) and was surprised were the frozen chocolate covered cream puffs. I thought they would be bland but they were actually really good.

I thought of a "different" but good cake I make...

Pineapple SURPRISE Cake

Yellow cake baked and cooled on the bottom, followed by a layer of drained pineapple tidbits mixed with pineapple pudding, followed by a layer of Cool Whip, sprinkled with chopped walnuts. Served cold.

People eat this stuff up!

Ice cream is my favorite too.

I like the individual cheesecake suggestion. I'd also suggest fruit kabobs.

I just remembered this one. I love this dessert and you could do it as the pizza or just get or make a batch of sugar cookies & do the cream cheese & fruit topping. I like to do a combination of kiwi, blueberries & strawberries.

Cheesecake is a must. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. Just plain ol' cheesecake :lovestruc

This is easy to make and it always goes over really well.

Take a quart of fresh strawberries, rinse and slice. Add a pint of rinsed raspberries and a pint of rinsed blueberries.

Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sugar (can substitute 2 packets of Splenda), and 2 tsp balsamic vinegar. Stir gently.

Refrigerate for several hours, stirring occasionally. The juice will get syrup-y.

Serve over vanilla ice cream, or in dessert shells...or on top of vanilla ice cream in dessert shells! :goodvibes

I have to thank another Disser for this recipe when I asked for a July 4 picnic. It's called a Watermelon Bombe although I had to alter mine because I couldn't find the right flavors. Basically you get sorbet, vanilla ice cream and sherbert. Line a bowl with plastic wrap & press the sorbet around the inside, chill, then add ice cream, chill, then add the sherbert, chill. If you use the right colors (lime sorbet or sherbert & raspberry sherbert or sorbet) and chocolate chips, it comes out looking like a watermelon. I used raspberry sherbert & blueberry/cranberry sorbet & vanilla ice cream. It was delicious - cool, refreshing & tasty. You can google for better instructions.

Have fun at your party!

I've made this many times (not this exact recipe....) and its always a huge hit!!! If your creative, you can make it look super pretty too, and even make it themed. Its even better then next day when the cream cheese frosting soaks into the cookie dough a bit. Mmmmmmmm.

Thanks everyone! I have some great ideas from you guys now. I think this is the final dessert menu:

oatmeal chocolate chip cookies
peanut butter cookies
big fruit platter
blueberry bars
lemon bars
bundt cake
mini individual cheesecake
make your own sundae ice cream bar
and a napoleon cake

I better start fasting now! I'll let you all know how everything comes out.

I really should not have entered this thread. Your menu sounds totally delicious and decadent.

My sister made these for my baby shower earlier this month and they were FABULOUS! And, to make her life easier, she bought the grocery stores bakery sugar cookies instead of having to slice and bake her own. Seriously, they were sooooooo good!

This is the old (and better) recipe than is at the Grand Floridian now

DISNEY'S GRAND FLORIDIAN BEACH RESORT

STRAWBERRY SOUP

4 Lb Strawberries (frozen variety, thawed with juice and pureed)
4 Pt Sour Cream
1/4 Cup Lemon Juice (frozen variety, reconstituted, not concentrated)

1-1/2 Cup Sifted Powdered Sugar (by cup measure)
1/4 Cup Grenadine Syrup
1 Cup Half-and-Half

METHOD OF PREPARATION:

In my local publix they sell pre-made crepes...I LOVE to take a crepe slather on some Nutella ( a chocalate/hazelnut spread similiar to the inside of those Ferrer Rocher chocolate candies) slice up either some bananas or strawberries and roll them in the crepe and top w/ wipped cream and/or chocolate sauce

You could also try building pizza style
the layers could go :
1 crepe
1 layer nutella
1 layer of strawberries or bananas or both)
2nd crepe

then slice like a pizza @ top w/ whipped cream &/or choc. sauce
