Malstrom- Norway and theGreat Movie Ride

I absolutely loved the one and only time I rode that Norway ride. I had traveled to WDW by myself and stayed in my camper at Wilderness. I was sad to see it go, but I understood.

However, the Great Movie Ride should have been preserved- or at most updated with newer movies to maintain interest. It is, afterall, at a place called Holllywood STUDIOS.

Totally. The golden age of Hollywood is fading away from the park. Updated movie ride... just a little clean up, that’s all it would take. So sad.

Favorite closed WDW ride: Superstar Limo (kidding!); Horizons
Favorite closed non-WDW ride: Big Bad Wolf (Busch Gardens Williamsburg)

Not closed yet but really would have hoped they put more effort into reimagining Splash Mountain. When I told my son if he would want to ride it when it’s themed on Princess and the Frog, he immediately said no way. I suspect lots of young boys concur.

Ooh. I never thought that it’s princess theme might turn off some kids. The princesses have taken over much of the Kingdom. Hmmm. But if he’s a real boy’s boy, maybe it’ll have enough adventure in its theme. Facilier is rather dark. Maybe he’ll be part of it and make it a little more attractive to all.

Back Lot Tour - loved, loved it - the first one, not the watered down later version.
Totally. We took the Universal tour when we were in California last time and it made us miss the one at Hollywood Studios. It’s what the park is supposed to be all about.

Oh so many! I was a Disney baby- my parents would take us yearly or twice yearly when we visited our family in Florida. Horizons, Mr. Toad, Snow White, the original Imagination, etc. Most of all though I miss the Main Street electrical parade. I remember watching that as a tiny little one and was able to have a similar experience with my older DD right before they axed it. It was a special moment just seeing it though her eyes. :). She still talks about missing that parade each time we go back!

DL: PeopleMover/RocketRods, Country Bear Christmas Show
WDW: original Imagination ride, Osborne Lights, Magical Express 😉

ok. I’m going to put the electrical parade as my number 2. I remember that I first saw it in 1981. Then it came back for my kids not too long ago. It was so awesome to show it to them. Same as what you’re saying.
I have a rule that I can only listen to music of closed attractions when I’m in my car. My son said of I keep listening to Tomorrowland music in the car, next time I’m in Tomorrowland it’ll remind me of driving in the car. So that is the one and only benefit of the electrical parade closing. I listen to it often, but it’s bittersweet.

I agree. IMO, it's the best WDW show they've ever had.

I didn't know that - thanks!

That's not entirely true. Disneyland still has a Mr. Toad (but it's only single track unlike the dual track WDW version), but they have the Submarine Voyage which is basically the same as 20,000 Leagues but is not themed as such. This was the original ride (that 20,000 Leagues was based on) and it has since been rethemed to include characters from Finding Nemo. It looks liek this:

Now, if you DO want a 20K ride, Tokyo DisneySea has one, but it is very different than the Submarine Voyage type ride - there's no water! It's actually pretty good though and they fake it up nicely.

Alright. Everyone has inspired me to expand my list.

Well what is true is that if you miss those rides from Disney World, they are at Disneyland (name change and track missing not withstanding).

As you said- 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea DisneySea is not nostalgic. It is the same in name only. A good attraction but not as fun as their other Jules Verne attraction!!!! I hope you had the opportunity to ride that one!

Oh, Journey to the Center of the Earth? Oh man, did I ride that one! Honestly it is close to supplanting the Haunted Mansion as my all-time favroite Disney attraction. I love how it is designed as a companion to the Dinsey/Harper Goff designed 20K universe. That is truly a spectacular ride!

The Submarines at DL just don't quite "do it" for me the way the old MK ride did. I mean, you were on The Nautilus!

I'll add Spectromagic. The superior nighttime parade.
Wait what? I just thumbed that up without realizing what you said. darn it. 😝 I remember when they replaced Spectromagic with the rerunning of the Electrical Parade. Everyone was like "Why do they have to change stuff" and I was like "But I said that the first time they took the Electrical Parade away, and now it's back. So it's all a matter of perspective." and then both were gone forever.😕

Ok I concede about the Submarines. They sure smelled the same though. haha. I could not believe Journey to the Center of the Earth. I must say, in terms of theming and overall ride experience I agree. One of the best rides in or out of Disney.
