Favorite Christmas Song and why?

I have to pick an album too...

Christmas Sing Along with Mitch Miller and the Gang, and The Rat Pack Christmas. Each of these give a different but great feeling of the Holidays!

Great minds think alike.

Christmas Sing Along with Mitch Miller and the Gang

My parents had this album when I was a kid. I remember it came with song sheets so everyone could sing along. I only really remember myself singing along, but I know I caused some very deep grooves in that record. I also remember that for "White Christmas" there were no lyrics printed. It simply said something like "the author assumes everyone knows these lyrics".

Yep. Mitch and the Gang are among my earliest Christmas memories.:D

The sing along sheets were great, although I always though it was "The Christmas Song" that had no lyrics.

Great memories......

It's not Christmas until I hear Miss Piggy crank out "five Golden Rings, badum bump bump"
And I just LOVE when Animal goes off (is it the figgy pudding part?). I just bought the CD this Christmas for my kids!

My all time favorite though is a tie between "I'll be Home for Christmas" probably because I live 6 hours from my mom and dad and it tugs at my heart strings. The other is "O Come All Ye Faithful". When I was a kid, they always played that one at Midnight Mass with the trumpets and all the pomp and circumstance. Just beautiful.

Father Christmas!! I remember the video (haven't seen it in years) but it was of a young child running to a soldier. It was very moving. Wish I could see it again.

May there be Peace on Earth!:D

Another vote for Burl Ives "Holly Jolly Christmas". I love bee-bopping to it when stuck in traffic coming home from work. This one radio station plays only holiday music this time of year and so I hear it almost everyday. My favorite line is "kiss her once for me!" Ha! I also enjoy the Kelly Clarkson holiday song. Don't know the name, but I like it. Great thread:D

There are so many. Carol of the Bells, Pat-a-pan done by Mannheim Steamroller (among others they do).... Don't forget Eartha Kitt's (not Madona's) Santa Baby!

Another one saying GMTA! I was going to use this topic as a poll today! :) :)

O Holy Night is my favorite traditional carol. I find myself singing it all through the season.

For a fun Christmas song I love Jingle Bell Rock!

:D

"Grandma Got Run OVer by a Reindeer"...Just because.

I also love "Do They Know it's Christmas Time?" by Band Aid.

I pretty much love them all (well - maybe with the exception of "Feliz Navadad" and "The Twelve Days Of Christmas") but one that I have become particularly fond of the past few years is:

"Mary Did You Know?"

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered
Will soon deliver you

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?

And when you kiss your little boy
You've kissed the face of god

Mary, did you know?
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the lamb

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy is lord of all creation?
Did you know
That your baby boy will one day rules the nations?
Did you know
That your baby boy is heaven's perfect lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding
Is the great I am
---------------------------------------------------------------

A beautiful, beautiful song..

Can't say I really have one, but DH says it isn't Christmas until he hears The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl with a Fairytale of New York for the first time each year on the run up to Christmas.
