It's about that time of the year when I begin to think about which Christmas cookies / goodies I will make for this year. Since I'm always game to try new recipes, I figured that I would ask my good friends on the DIS board to post their favorite cookie / goodie recipe :goodvibes . Here is one of mine that I would like to share:

BRUTZEL BARS

Pam nonstick cooking spray
1 "tube" package saltine crackers
1 cup butter (no substitutions)
1 cup sugar
1 (12-oz.) package milk chocolate morsels

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a standard-
sized cookie sheet with aluminum foil that has built
up sides. Lightly spray the foil with Pam.

2. Arrange saltine crackers over foil to make a
single layer. Set aside.

3. In a medium saucepan, combine butter and sugar
and bring to a boil and boil minute. Remove from heat
and pour gently over crackers.

4. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes or until
golden brown. Remove from oven and rearrange any
crackers that have moved.

5. Immediately sprinkle chocolate morsels over top.
Wait 2 to 3 minutes, then spread melted chocolate
evenly with a knife to cover crackers. Cool on wire
rack, then refrigerate for a few hours. Remove from
refrigerator about 15 minutes before serving. Cut or
break into pieces. These taste like Heath Bars. Makes
lots. Enjoy! *A "Brutzel" boil is a gentle, lazy,
bubbling on the surface.

Sounds yummy.

Is it hard to spread the chocolate evenly?

These are soooo good! :
I make these also, but I sprinkle the bits of Heath peanut brittle on top after spreading the chocolate, so they taste exactly like the Heath bars. My family can't get enough of them.

It's not hard to spread the chocolate at all. The cookie is so hot when it comes out of the oven, the chocolate melts in a matter of minutes. These also freeze very well. I sometimes also sprinkle chopped almonds on the top once I've spread out the chocolate... yummy!!!
