Fat Friendly Rides???

I'm TTTing to see if anyone else has Sea World experience. On another board someone said JTA has a pull down bar? :confused3 I can't see that on a log ride? Then another person said Kraken would not fit someone a size 24. Are there any restraints on the Artic ride (can't think of the name)?

Thanks again for all your help! I'm so glad everyone is willing to share. :flower:

I just want to add-- no problems at the water parks either. I was really worried stepping up for my first slide-- that the CM's were going to smirk or balk or something. I got in- they pushed off--- no problems. I had a blast. I never felt out of place or anything. So, don't let the waterparks scare you off either. (I'm a 22/24). I've even found a lot of new trendier bathing suits for plus size women that provide a nice amount of coverage too.
I've also ridden TOT, Splash. Big Thunder, RnRRC all w/o a problem. No problems w/ the belts on TT either. I still can pull it out some. I do the sideways turn at the turnstiles too. I found HM and POTC can be tight, but I've never gotten stuck or anything.
I too think I was so happy to be at Disney the first time, that I didn't even think about my "size". It never crossed my mind I might not fit. We're going to Sea World in April-- and I never really thought about it there either.

The only real problem I find when considering my size and Disney at the same time is the sardine can sized seats on the plane rides to and from Orlando!! :earboy2: :rolleyes1

I am very grateful that I'm not the only one concerned about the rides at WDW. However, I'm going with my husband and 2 year old. Will one of us be able to get on the rides with her?

Since we're driving from New York to Florida with a four day stop in Columbia, SC...we're going to visit Carowinds Paramount Park since I have free tickets, just so my daughter can see Spongebob, Dora, Blue, etc.. Would anyone know if Carowinds has Pooh-Size friendly rides for families?

I rode everything at WDW and no problems at all! Even the more "kiddie" rides accomodate Pooh size adults well. A BIG thanks to Disney for this for this since I have had trouble once or twice at other amusement parks.

The ONLY ride I did have a bit of a problem on was the twirling rollercoaster in Dinoland at AK. I think it would have been fine if it was just two of us in the seats, but there were 3 of us and it was a VERY tight squeeze. If you and your DH go on that I'd recommend leaving the middle seat open between you or putting a child in the middle (there are 3 seats across) -- other than that no worries!

First, I think the airplane seats shrunk and I got bigger...but I thought that this was the worst. Also, I thought the seats in Stich's Great Escape and Body Wars were tight. I have heard that the seats at Cirque du Soleil are very small...does anyone have any first hand knowledge of this???

I have never had any problems at WDW either. As people have mentioned the theatre type seats are a little on the small side. I have rode all the big rides except space mountain and RR at MGM.

Now Universal Islands of Adventure was a whole other story. It was the worst and until I loose (alot) of weight, I will not be wasting my money there again. The other Universal park was great and I had no problems there, but IOA was a big downer for a very Pooh sized me.

I am 26/28 and even a 30/32 in some clothes. Also I'd like to say that sometimes the problem can come in when you try to ride with another larger person. Just look at the seats and determine if you should ride alone or if someone else would fit in with you.

Also, for the person asking about Sea World. The Atlantis boats on the ride are a lot like the logs on splash mountain. There are no seatbelts at all on this. Kraken is the roller coaster and it does have the shoulder harness with the seatbelt. These are the type of rides I had problems with at Univeral's Islands of Adventure. I have broad shoulders and it wouldn't come all the way down for the seatbelt to click. They do have larger seats in certain sections, but I found it too embarassing to try to find the right ones and then they still may not have fit.

The Arctic ride is not really a ride (unless they changed it since I was there in 2002) You go in and set in some seats and watch a short film and then you walk through the "ride". It's made to look like you have landed in another place where there is snow and ice everywhere. It's pretty cool, but I wouldn't concider it to be a "ride", just an attraction.

Hope this helps and I hope you have a great trip.

Oh my gosh I totally agree! I HATE planes! I'm a 26/28 and it's awful. Sure they have those nifty seat belt extenders but what the heck good are those when you are wedged so tightly in the seat you can't move anyway!

I seriously hate flying so much that we are probably going to drive down from TN next year.

Wish I could afford 1st Class, the seats looks bigger up there.

What airline are you flying with? I used SouthWest out of Nashville TN last year and I didn't notice the seats being to small. I'm the same size as you, 26/28.

We experienced a problem w/ the CM one time. We were in line to ride Snow White. It was myself, DD and her friend. One Pooh size and 2 average size females. He insisted that all 3 of us sit in one row. I told him we would not fit, and he continued to insist we would. After much arguing he finally let us sit in two rows. Needless to say, the Pooh sized person was extremely embarrassed. DH was not with us at that moment, but when we caught up with him, he got the CM's name and reported the incident to Guest Relations.

I have to say, I go to a lot "amusement parks" throughout the summer.

The ONLY PLACE I have never, ever had a problem fitting on the rides in Disney.

Have fun and enjoy! :goodvibes

You might be a bit closer to me in Knoxville. Have you looked into Indepenence Air? My sis and I flew that when we went to visit another sister. At the time I was about an 18/20 and she was probaby about a 28/30. We sat together just fine. We were a bit tight, but not bad. My husband who is larger than I am and I were also able to fit on the seats. I have to say Independence Air really impressed me with the service and the seats were nice and cushy and comfortable. Much better quality than Delta or others. Their website is www.flyi.com. They're also cheaper than the big dogs. My sis also did not need the seat belt extender on Independence. She was happy about that.

This is a big relief for me! I now see I am not the only one who thinks about these issues! I had fears of not being able to fit on some rides with my DD, I am an 18/20 and husband is chubby as well. I guess I can relax and just have fun now.

I might add, you're not fat, you're festivally plump!!! LOL!!

Jules

just to add one more. I too am defiantely a big girl-almost 6' and about a 24. Dinosaur (not the whirly one) at DAK KILLS my knees and butt- the darn seatbelt jabs in just the worng place. but I ride it anyway every time (and duck and scream at the scary dino at the end). And be aware that while you will in fact fit comfortably in Space Mt., getting out is sometimes a whole 'nother story, so make sure any girls in your party aren't wearing skirts for that one!

I'm about 20 minutes outside of downtown Knoxville. I have flown only on Delta in the past and it's a nightmare IMHO. Wished Southwest operated out of Knoxville, I have heard many good things about them.

Hey Rachel!

I live in Seymour so I'm really close to you.

Thanks for the info on your experience with Independence Air. I have never flown with them. I am def going to look into using them for my trip in April next year. I hope that they are still flying out of Knoxville then. I know there were some questions on whether they were staying here or not a couple of months ago. Keeping my fingers crossed they'll still be here next April.

No seat belt extender? OMG that would be soo nice for once. I'd been thrilled too. :cloud9:

JetBlue seats are AWESOME, I think they're wider than the America West 1st class seats I got bumped to once. They're REALLY awesome when they're free :teeth: (wife works for them) Too bad (for all of us) that they don't fly everywhere yet.
