Fastpass Enforcement coming?

I too am perplexed by the above 2 quotes. Isn't that famous late-day backup in the FP queue what all this hubub is supposedly about???????? :rolleyes1
I've never seen the FP que backed up later in the evening.......at least not when I'm there. Now yesterday on Kilamanfaro in the afternoon......YIKES! I have never seen a FP que like that.

Here's my take (for what it's worth)........people will get FP, especially for the popular attractions, and they will run out early. Obviously, they continue to be for later & later in the day the more people that get them. Someone will be there at 10 a.m. & see that the return time is now for 7 p.m. (or even later) & figure, "Well, I'm not sure if I'll be here, but I'll get one anyway, just in case".

They get their FP's & by 4:00 the kids have had enough & they need to take a break. They are back at their resort & there's no way they're going to make it back for their 7 - 8 p.m. FP. It then goes unused & the FP que doesn't have as many guests as anticipated.

My guess is this happens often. Again, JMO!

................ Gee. Maybe they should start letting other guests use their Fp's from earlier in the day to sort of fill in for all those who bail and never use theirs. :rolleyes1

No it's really not what it is all about. It is what many have made it about. When you consider what information Disney has and what Disney has said it really boils down to a couple of things. First they know how many FP's they give out a day. Secondly they know how many FP's are used a day. That's about it. I mean I guess they might monitor number of FP's used per hour during the day but I really don't remember there being a gate that counts people at any FP entrance (I certainly could be wrong about this). If they did have a way to monitor FP's rides per time slot they could compare that to time issued and attempt to adjust the number they issue to account for late returns but I am now after thinking about it sure they they can even do that.

I think it all comes back to how many they issue vs how many are used a day and they have determined that the number used is too low so they are going to experiment with enforcing the return times. In their minds if the usage percentage is increased then they have more guests waiting in lines for less time hence they spend more time eating, snacking and shopping.

Based on the information they actually have (or seem to have based on my observations and others) it seems the only thing they can truly determine is the percentage of FP's used a day over the number issued a day and they want to increase that percentage.

I'm a bit confused, honestly. I thought the Fastpass queue was chock full of late FP users at the end of the day? I mean, isn't that what was discussed for about 120 of the pages in this thread?.

As for EMH, as it is a separate beast only available to on-site resort guests, they do things a bit differently. Sometimes they use FP, but they will not issue FPs for an EMH window during regular park hours, so as to not confuse the guests not staying for EMH. They will start issuing them after EMH begins. Often they don't use it at all though. It requires additional CMs to manage the FP line, and there can only be so many issued in the 3 hours of EMH anyways.

Have not read all the pages but what is being discussed is what is always discussed on these threads.

1) Disney institutes a change
2) Dissers give opinons on why this change will either make things better or worse
3) Dissers speculate on why that change is occuring.
4) Dissers try to convince those with opposing views that their view is correct
without having any sort of official confirmation

What has actualy occured will depend on who you ask and when you ask it.

I got six pages into this before jumping to the end here. Here is what will happen. They will enforce the window. You will all piss and moan. You will whine and cry. Then you will plan around it, and spend your money there like we all do every year, no matter what decisions they make. Grow up whine bags.
Just sayin'

So Dumbo is scheduled to open when.... March 12? This change takes place March 7th. That ride will have a new sort of queue, where time deadlines are critical and can't be missed. (Not FP, but that could be lost on some guests).

I really go back to what I said earlier. I think they believe guests will be confused by the flexibility of the return time on FP's and try to do the same on Dumbo (and whatever new form of FP comes about soon).

The only reason we presently go to a park in the evenings is to use FP that we accumulated during the day. At Epcot, we usually have one for Soarin and one for Test Track collected from in the morning. Generally, a couple in the MK, one for Thunder Mtn. and Space Mtn. In the Studios, one for RR and one for TS Mania. We just get to AK at opening and do EE 2 or 3 times in a row first thing. No reason to use FPs for anything else. We feel that having to wait 2 hours before collecting another FP is enough of a penalty. Disney obviously now feels otherwise. Their parks, their choice to begin enforcing their rules.

Once Disney enforces the rules for the 1 hour window we will rarely tour in the evenings. Our choice. An occasional viewing of Wishes will be it for us.

We understand that Disney is a giant money sucking machine. I suppose that your are right, we will plan around this, but our planning will consist of fewer days in the parks and spending less money there. We are DVC owners so we are immune to the rising costs of staying on-property (take a slight hit when dues trickle up). We eat off-site more and more. We also have Hilton Head as our home resort. Don't have the parks to dominate our vacations there.

I know that I am in the minority but most changes that Disney makes anymore do not enhance the experience of visiting their resorts or parks. Just my opinion, and I know that I am, again, in the minority but I believe that the FP rule 'enforcement' is a precursor to costing park guests money in some form or fashion.

FYI, we just returned from visiting Orlando over President's Day. Stayed off-property at the wonderfull Spring Hill Suites at Sea World. Zipped in and out of AK on Saturday morning / MK on Sunday morning / and Studios on Monday morning with our annual passes.

Spent NO money in any of the parks. Waited in minimal lines and enjoyed a wonderful complimentay breakfast each morning at SH Suites for $135 a night for a modern, over-sized 2 queen room with a fridge, microwave with sleeper sofa and nice size sitting area.

Ate all of our meals off-property and had a very Disney experience.

Wow. Talk about a lot of whine in one bag! Just remember: Pissing, moaning, whining and crying over people pissing, moaning, whining and crying doesn't make you any better.

Just sayin'

According to the Disney FB page, Disney confirmed it.As of March 7th, the FP return time windows will be enforced.Checkmate,Yahtzee and Bingo.

Which facebook page? As far as I know Disney has said nothing publicly.

The DIS news blog (related to this site) says it is confirmed, but not by what. As far as we know it is based on the internal memo that we've all known about already.

I'm just wondering if Disney has publicly said anything.

I couldn't find anything on their main Facebook page. I also don't see them announcing something like this in that sort of forum.

I honestly didn't know you could use a FP outside the time specified until I read it on the Disboards. We always returned within the time on FP, assumed you had too. I'm surprised it wasn't enforced before.

It was Col. Mustard in the parlor with the candlestick.

I thought that Ms Scarlett did it on Ventnor Avenue with the little red car.

I think I'm mixing metaphors or boardgames again.

Is it March 7th yet?
