FASTPASS Changes?

What ever happened to the changes they were going to make to the FASTPASS system to allow you to print your FASTPASSES in your room before visiting the park? It was in their patent which someone had posted here sometime over the last couple of years but I have not seen or heard of anything else on it. Could the fact that they are upgrading the FASTPASS machines mean that they have canned that idea? :confused3

Actually the fact that they are upgrading the fastpass machines bolsters the idea that some changes are coming, but what changes are only rumors at this point.

And just because a company has a patent on something, doesn't mean they need to USE it...it just prevents someone else from using it without permission.

The expense of allowing guests to print fastpasses from their room will be quite large. It means installing an interactive system integrated into the network and a printer.

I think the first change you might see is greater enforcement of fastpass return times by scanning the barcodes on the new passes - at least for the current date. That is, IF the barcode actually contains date/time information - it is a pretty small barcode.

Booking fastpasses from the room still gives the resort guests an advantage even if each fastpass so booked pushes back the eligible time for fetching one in the park by two hours.

Booking in the room would allow reserving fastpass times way out and taking those fastpasses from the systemwide allotment in one morning session, while using the existing system may find the fastpasses exhausted before eligibility came along.

Printers would not be needed in rooms, being provided in resort lobbies and at the parks instead.

That would be another incentive to stay onsite...since the new pricing system seems to be trying to move people offsite (see $139 per night for a VALUE resort).

I would just like to see a few informational boards put up at spots in the park with the Fastpass times...or at least show the Fastpass times for the other FP rides at each FP location. For example, if I go to get a Fastpass at Space Mountain...I would like to be able to see the times for the other locations to plan which FP I will want to get next.

It could definitely save people from having to walk all the way to Soarin or Expedition Everest if the FP's are already out for the day.

What would really be cool is if you could text a number using your cell phone and get an automated reply back with the times.

Speed :teleport:

We had a group of people jump in line in front of us in the Fastpass line at the K-Safari Ride in AK and they did NOT have a Fastpass. We discreatly alerted CM and they said they could do nothing about it.

That really didn't make much sense to me .
